PRAYER OF PREPARATION
Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany
Mysterious God, you whose wisdom baffles kings, makes us foolhardy enough to dare to live as if peace is truly possible, here and now. Grant us the audacity to seek justice. Give us courage to risk kindness and love recklessly so that, in Jesus’ footsteps, and through your Spirit’s surprising blessings, we can journey humbly with you all our days. Amen.

INTROIT The Lord is My Rock Camille Saint-Saëns
The Lord is my rock and my fortress, my strength in whom I trust. I will call upon the Lord God, and I shall be saved. In my distress, I called to the Lord, and cried unto my God, and he has heard his servant's voice. Therefore, I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord my God, Singing praises ever unto thy name.

† CALL TO WORSHIP
One: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Many: Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
One: Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Many: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
One: Blessed are the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, and the persecuted.
Many: Blessed are we when we rejoice in the wisdom of God. Blessed are we when we obey the God who shames the proud and powerful.
One: So let us know and worship Christ crucified, boasting in our Lord who uplifts the weak.
† PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, we fail to do what is right. Instead, we pursue evil and do not speak the truth. We complicate what should be simple, excusing violence and justifying injustice. We try to be faithful, but we turn from you. We boast in our own accomplishments and fail to rejoice in doing what is right. Forgive us, accept us, and redeem us, that we may be redeemed and sanctified to do what you call good.

† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from the PC(USA) Brief Statement of Faith
In life and in death, we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve.
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed, and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the
brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal. With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.
† THE PEACE
One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
Many: And also with you.

THE OFFERING OF TITHES AND GIFTS TO GOD
ANTHEM O Love, That Will Not Let Me Go arr. by Carson Cooman O Love that will not let me go, I rest my tired soul in thee; I give thee back the life I owe, that in thine ocean depths its flow may richer, fuller be. O Light that follows me all my way, I give my flickering torch to thee; my heart restores its borrowed ray, that in thy sunshine’s blaze its day may brighter, fairer be. O Joy that seeks me through the pain, I cannot close my heart to thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain, and feel the promise is not vain, that morn shall tearless be!
