s we approach the winter season, we are excited to share our upcoming recreational offerings for January 2024 through March 2024. For those who may prefer to curl up with a good book during these winter months, this edition of our activity guide features a special spotlight on our beloved Viney Jones Library. Firstly, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the family of the late Viney Jones, our former Community Librarian. Ms. Jones was a pillar of our community and dedicated herself to public service and the Florence library. Her legacy includes the development and implementation of numerous programs such as the Summer Reading Program, Children’s Programs, Special Programs, activities for Black History Month, and many more initiatives for our local youth. In honor of her contributions, the town renamed the Florence Library to the Viney Jones Library in January 2023. We recently celebrated this renaming with a ceremony attended by the Jones family and many residents. We hope you enjoy the new Viney Jones plaque and signage at the library. Under the capable leadership of Library Manager Lisa Lewis, the Viney Jones Library continues to uphold Ms. Jones’ vision. We strive to offer cutting-edge programs, a wide array of reading materials, and top-notch
information resources while ensuring an exceptional experience for all visitors. Libraries have evolved significantly over the years, becoming more than just a place to check out books. They are now vibrant community hubs where people can learn, grow, discover, socialize, and gather. The Viney Jones Library is no exception. We offer unique services such as free access to a 3-D printer, poster printer, glow forge, embroidery machine, and much more! We invite you to explore all that the Viney Jones Library has to offer. Our collaborative efforts between the Library and Recreation division make your community center and library a special place to gather, socialize, learn, play, and grow. And we are proud to provide low or no fee experiences that bring value to everyone in Florence. If you haven’t visited us recently, we invite you to come explore our ever-growing library. As you review all our upcoming recreational opportunities in this guide, remember that the Viney Jones Library offers some of the most unique and state-of-the-art programs and equipment that could introduce you to your next lifelong hobby. Municipal Volunteer Program (MVP): The Town of Florence offers a variety of volunteer opportunities to the public. Community Volunteers can contribute their energy, talents and ideas, which improves the quality of life in Florence. If you are interested in volunteering with the Town of Florence, visit www.FlorenceAZ.gov/MVP Durable Medical Equipment Loan Program: The Durable Medical Equipment Loan Program provides mobility equipment on a temporary basis. The program, offered by the recreation division of Florence Community Services includes wheelchairs, rolling walkers and other similar equipment. Users will sign a waiver before the requested equipment is issued. Individuals interested in borrowing medical equipment, may call the Community Center at (520) 868-7040 to check on equipment availability. Sponsorship: By taking advantage of sponsorship opportunities your business or organization will be able to maximize exposure to the residents of Florence and show community support. With a variety of sponsorship options available, there is sure to be an option that is right for your business. For sponsorship package details and fee information, contact Erasmo Mendivil at (520) 868-7586. Give-A-Lift, Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Do you need a ride to your medical appointments? If you are a Florence resident, aged 55+, or a person with a disability, call to request a ride from on of our amazing volunteer drivers. This is not an emergency transportation service. Please allow at least 2 weeks for scheduling a ride. Interested in being a volunteer driver? Here’s what you need: good driving record, valid driver’s license and background check clearance. The Program Fee Assistance Application is available at the Library and Community Center, 778 N. Main St. or online at www.florenceaz.gov/parks. Applicants must submit a completed program registration form, financial documentation and the Program Fee Assistance Application to the Community Center.

Americans with Disabilities Act: The Town of Florence is committed to implementing the intent and spirit of ADA legislation. Those who may need assistance in order to enjoy our programs should email adacoordinator@florenceaz.gov. Please provide at least a 72 hour notice with any special requests. Additional time is appreciated due to Florence’s rural location.
Verification of Residency: Residents live or own property in the Town of Florence. All others are non-residents.

How do I get started? To get started, simply visit: florenceaz.gov/parks-and-recreation and open an account. You will be asked to set up a unique Login Name and Password. This account can be used for all members of your household. If you already have a Login Name and Password, please click on the My Account button and sign in. You will be able to access account information, such as your daily schedule, past receipts, prior transactions and much more. If I register on-line, will I know if I get into a program right away? Yes, the registrations are in “real-time”. If a program has an opening when you complete your registration, you will be registered, and you will receive confirmation that your registration has been received. If a program is closed, you will be able to sign up on-line to be on the wait-list.
Youth Scholarship Program: The Youth Scholarship Program assists eligible Florence families by providing financial assistance to youth, 17 years and under. The scholarship program is only applicable for Florence Community Services recreation and 4

How do I know what programs are available online? When browsing programs online, registration availability will be indicated.
Payment Options: We accept cash, checks, Visa, Discover and MasterCard payments. Wait-list: If you are placed on a wait-list for a course or activity, there is no immediate payment taken. If a spot becomes available you will be notified to pay the required activity fee. Refund: Allow 10-15 business days for a check refund. Debit and Credit Card payments are refunded back to the card used in the original transaction. Withdrawal Policy • Withdrawal requests will only be considered at least five business days before the course start date, except for medical reasons (See Medical Transfer Request). • A pproved withdrawals will be refunded using one of the methods listed in the Course Refund Policy. Convenience charges paid online will not be reimbursed. • Refunds will not be considered once classes have started, except for medical reasons (See Medical Withdrawal and Medical Transfer Request) Transfer Requests • Transfer requests will only be considered if received at least five business days before the course start date, except for medical reasons (See Medical Transfer Request). • Requested transfer classes must have open availability.
• If the transfer course request in not available and the participant chooses to withdraw, the request is subject to the withdrawal policy. Medical Withdrawal and Medical Transfer Request • Written documentation from a physician’s office must accompany the Withdrawal or Transfer request. •T he request must be received within 72 hours of the first missed class. •R efunds will be prorated if the withdrawal is on or after the course start date. Convenience charges paid online will not be reimbursed. Course Refund Policy •A pproved withdrawal participants will be refunded by one of the following: •C redit Card/Debit Card used to make the purchase •C heck: All check refunds take approximately 6-7 weeks processing by the Town of Florence and are made out and mailed to the main contact of the account. •C onvenience charges paid online will not be reimbursed •R efunds will not be considered once classes have started, except for medical reasons (See Medical Withdrawal and Medical Transfer Request)
Cancellations Some programs require a minimum number of participants and are subject to cancellation. Those who are registered will be contacted and provided a refund if this occurs.

RECREATION PROGRAMS
RECREATION PROGRAMS Discovery Club
Anthem K8 and Florence K8 Discovery Club is a safe and fun environment for kindergarten to 6th-grade children to enjoy before and after school. Our morning session is a safe space for children to enjoy on campus before school starts. The Afternoon session focuses on providing our youth with learning experiences that teach practical skills and creativity. Discovery Club is available at Florence K8 and Anthem K8 Monday through Friday during the following times: Morning Session: 6:30 a.m. - School Start Afternoon Session: School Dismissal - 5:30 p.m. Discovery Club is also held on half days from the end of school to 5:30 pm All participants must be picked up by 5:30 pm. Anthem K8 will meet in the school cafeteria. Florence K8 students will meet in the cafeteria at the end of the school day and will all walk together to Room 14.
Discovery Club will not be held on observed holidays: MLK Day (Jan 15th); President’s Day (Feb 19th)
Spring Intersession
Due to the growth in dietary needs we ask that parents provide their child with one (1) snack for each day they are in attendance.
The Spring Intersession Program provides a fun, safe, stimulating place for children to enjoy during the day over Florence Unified School District’s Spring Break. This program has rotating morning classes and activities that include sports, games, arts & crafts, STEM activities, cooking, and more. On scheduled afternoons, eligible participants will take in-town field trips.

Spring Intersession will begin on Monday, March 11th, and end on Friday, March 22nd. Operating hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Viney Jones Library and Community Center, located at 778 N. Main Street. Transportation is available for residents in the Anthem area to and from the Community Center.
Please make sure your child has breakfast before checking them in, a water bottle with their name on it, two (2) snacks and one (1) lunch for each day they are in attendance. Spots are limited and on a first come first served basis. This program may fill. Please register your child to secure their place in the program. No Drop-in options available during intersession. Anthem pick-up and drop-off will be located at the Anthem K-8 parking lot. Bus will arrive at 7:15 a.m. and remain on site until 8:00 a.m. Return bus will depart the Viney Jones Library and Community Center at 5:00 p.m. and remain until 5:30 p.m. All children must be picked up by 5:30 p.m.

Youth Soccer
Jr NBA Youth Basketball League
Community Center Youth Soccer is for boys and girls, ages 3-10. This is a non-competitive youth sport that emphasizes good sportsmanship, skill development, equal participation and fun. There are three age divisions to choose from and first-time players are always welcome to participate. Preregistration must be completed no later than Wednesday, February 21st. Practices are tentatively scheduled to begin on Monday, March 18th. Practices can be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays. The practice day will be determined by the coach. Registration reminders: • Volunteer Coaches are strongly needed for the successful operation of this program.

Emphasis will be placed on participation, character development, good sportsmanship, and fun. Games will be played on Mondays and Wednesdays with practices taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Join us for our Easter Celebration. We have a delicious Easter meal of ham, baked beans, and salads. Weather permitting it is a great morning on our south lawn and there is always a visit from Hip Hop, along with many games and prizes.
Come on y’all, join us for an evening of everyone’s favorite game...BINGO. We are hosting a western themed show down bingo night, complete with a western meal.
