In an unprecedented political development, the Philippine House of Representatives voted on February 5, 2025, to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte, marking the first time a sitting vice president has faced such proceedings in the country’s history. Pinoy TNTs face deportation in the U.S. Long before the term “Overseas Filipino Workers” (OFWs) became common, Filipinos used the acronym “TNT”– short for “Tago ng Tago,” meaning “always hiding” – to describe compatriots living in the United States without legal status. This includes those with expired work visas and tourists who overstayed, working “under the table” to earn a living. From the 1960s through the 1990s, many Filipino TNTs managed to regularize their status with the help of immigration lawyers and supportive relatives.
