LIVING OUR VALUES

Gathering in Sisterhood Leads to Meaningful Impact

In Pi Beta Phi, we deeply cherish the values of community and togetherness. From chapter-specific events and traditions to collaboration with members across North America, there is no replacement for being together with our sisters. As Illinois Theta prepares for the Fall 2024 term, we look forward to reuniting on campus and the abundance of opportunities it will bring.

Returning to campus is always a special time filled with excitement and gratitude. One of my favorite

things about returning in the fall is witnessing all my sisters come together as one during prerecruitment activities. The summer glow they carry with them shines just as bright as our friendships when we all step back on campus. At Illinois Theta, everyone can feel at home, and you can always count on your sisters to be there for you.

Being together on campus not only allows us to foster genuine connection and Sincere Friendship, but also provides the opportunity

for community engagement.

As Pi Phis, we embrace our mission to enrich lives through community service. Giving back is at the core of who we are, and Illinois Theta is dedicated to fulfilling this vision for our sisterhood.

At Illinois Theta, there are many opportunities to engage with our community in purposeful ways.

The Fall 2024 term is especially meaningful, as we get to celebrate Read > Lead > Achieve ® month in September alongside the entirety of our sisterhood. Our chapter is also looking forward to reading to the fourth-grade classrooms at Whittier Primary School for Champions are Readers ®. Seeing all their smiling faces when we walk into their classroom is like a breath of fresh air!

The Fall 2024 term looks promising at Illinois Theta, and as Chapter President, I’m honored to keep witnessing Pi Phi’s commitment to bettering the lives of our sisters and community members. Nothing fills our hearts with more Pi Phi Pride than authentically living the values of our sisterhood.

Finding Fulfillment in Service

As the Fraternal Government Relations Coalition (FGRC) Representative, SHEILA

CONSAUL finds true fulfillment in giving back to Pi Phi through this role. Read more about her story and why she stays engaged with Pi Phi as an alumna.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT ALUMNAE LIFE?

Most Pi Phis don’t realize you’re an alumna for much longer than you’re a collegian. When I moved to Washington, D.C., I only knew one person, so I joined the Northern Virginia Alumnae Club and have been best friends with some of those women for decades.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO VOLUNTEER FOR PI PHI?

I enjoy giving back and filling my free time with something meaningful to me. Pi Phi has given me so much over the years, it’s only natural I do what I can for our sisterhood.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR ROLE AS THE FGRC REPRESENTATIVE.

I was appointed to this role by the Grand President in 2013 and have been reappointed every biennium since. As the Fraternity’s FGRC Representative, I coordinate Pi Phi’s government relations activities in Washington, D.C. and oversee our representation at the annual FGRC lobbying day on Capitol Hill. This includes selecting the Pi Phi student representatives who will participate in this important event.

The most fulfilling aspect of this role is working with the collegians. This experience is an amazing opportunity for them to better understand the legislative process and speak directly to Members of Congress about issues that are important to fraternities and sororities.

BETWEEN

YOUR PERSONAL, PROFESSIONAL AND PI PHI LIFE, HOW DO YOU FIND BALANCE?

Volunteering is my respite from work and other personal life stresses. There’s nothing more rewarding than giving back and helping improve someone’s life and the world around us. I’m also a big scheduler, even if that's just making time to see friends, take a walk or read a book.

HOW HAS PI PHI MADE AN IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE?

I can’t even begin to count the many positive ways Pi Phi has impacted my life. The volunteering opportunities have provided immense fulfillment and honed my leadership skills. I have also been given lifelong friendships and amazing memories.

AS AN ENGAGED ALUMNA YOURSELF, WHY DO YOU THINK STAYING INVOLVED WITH OUR SISTERHOOD IS SO IMPORTANT?

You don’t know what you’re missing if you’re not engaged with Pi Phi after college. Given the number of alumnae, you can always find someone with similar interests to you and expand your network through their friends or colleagues. You will experience many significant life events with your alumnae sisters including weddings, children, job loss, moving and more. You can also be as active as you want! There are no requirements for being friends with your sisters.

Support Illinois Theta’s CHIP Fund

A Chapter House Improvement Program (CHIP) allows alumnae to make taxdeductible contributions in support of the chapter facility to fund qualified educational projects and expenses, and these gifts provide both immediate and long-term financial support for specific areas of need. By contributing to the CHIP, you could help Illinois Theta offset their costs of utilities, fund educational projects such as new study desks and so much more! To learn more about CHIPs, please visit pibetaphi.org/funds, or scan the QR code to make a gift today.
