THE ROYAL SCOTTISH ACADEMY (RSA), one of the oldest and most prestigious UK cultural institutions, will be 200 years old this year. An independent artist-led organisation, the RSA is planning a one of a kind celebration all year long involving hundreds of artists, partners, galleries and institutions in Scotland along with an ambitious programme at their Edinburgh home at the foot of The Mound. This will be the largest and most expansive exhibition held by the RSA in Edinburgh including a major focus on women artists past and present.
RSA Director Colin Greenslade said: “For the summer we have an important retrospective by Joyce W. Cairns and we round off the year with a major new exhibition by Dame Barbara Rae. As a membership organisation with threads of activity across the sector, our group exhibitions for 2026 will explore our history, our legacy and our future. Complimenting the vast range of associated activities of our partners across the length and breadth of Scotland, the exciting programme for the galleries here in Edinburgh will be an opportunity to learn more about our extensive support of Scottish artists’ and architects’ practice during this important anniversary moment.”
