Save the Date!

One of the City’s most popular events is back - and we are so excited to share our Save the D The annual City of Phoenix Brin Your Child to Work Day will be Thursday, June 11, 2026! While t day will be nationally observed Thursday, April 23, school distri ask that parents and employe wait to celebrate until the sum so kids don’t miss school.

We will be hosting some event downtown at City Hall. In addi departments can coordinate department-only events at their locations for their families We are still in the early planning stages for the event, so be sure to keep an eye out for more updates as we get closer to June

Mark Your Calendars: 602 Day Is Coming!

We’re gearing up for 602 Day with employee celebrations across the city! Look for more details in the May 6 edition of the PHXConnect Newsletter But today, it’s all about the Move More Step Challenge

The 602 Day Move More Step Challenge runs May 4–31, and now is the perfect time to grab your teammates and get your group registered This friendly, fair, and fun challenge is a great way to move more, compete together, and join in the spirit of 602 Day

Find your teammates (teams must be between 4-8 people)

Pick a team name

Have one person submit the team registration form with everyone’s Wellable email usernames

FYI: Everyone who earns Wellable Points will be entered into random prize drawings just for participating.

Phoenix City Council recently approved the Community Transparency Initiative (CTI), strengthening the City’s commitment to transparency, civil rights, and clear procedures when federal activity intersects with City facilities, services, or operations

Register for the She Matters Equity Forum

The Phoenix Women's Commission invites the community to attend the annual She Matters Equity Forum on Friday, May 8 This year's theme, Seeds of Change, will focus on work-life balance, leadership skills, coalition building, and more!

The free event will feature remarks from Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, Phoenix Vice Mayor Kesha Hodge Washington and Arizona Supreme Court Justice Maria Elena Cruz

Donate Professional Clothing

Employees are invited to support Outfit Opportunity, a professional clothing drive to build a community closet for residents in need From April 20 - May 22, we’re gathering new and gently used professional attire to help people experiencing homelessness, and others in need to look and feel confident as they interview and take steps toward long term employment

Donations will support residents at the Safe Outdoor Space, Phoenix Navigation Center, other partner shelters, and City workforce clients receiving job readiness assistance. Drop off at the employee entrance of City Hall or find the full list of donation sites at Phoenix.gov/helping.

Solid Waste Equipment Operator

Public Works

The Public Works Department strives to improve the quality of life in Phoenix through efficient delivery of outstanding solid waste, fleet, facilities, and energy management services Solid Waste Equipment Operators operate solid waste collection trucks and other heavy equipment used for collecting refuse, recycling, and other waste material

Duties also include:

Performing daily CDL pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including a 7-step air brake check

Understanding collection route maps and following a designated route.

Use of a GPS system.

Operating a two-way radio.

Data entry into on-board computer system.

Cleaning waste buildup on equipment.

Identifying needed equipment repairs and making necessary equipment adjustments.

Operators will be required to routinely climb in and out of equipment, perform light manual labor, provide customer service, and meet established performance standards

Transfer station assignments use the following equipment: semi-tractor trailers with full air brakes, 5th-wheel connection, and a GVW of more than 34,000 lbs
