Then in the bottom of the fifth, with Juan Soto on second base, Young hammered an RBI single to score Soto with the tying run. Soto then launched his 14th of the season out of the park in the seventh inning for what stood as the winning run. Young has had 76 at-bats through 28 games and sports a .263 batting average, .329 on-base percentage and .803 on-base plus slugging (OPS) average — second only to Soto in all three Mets offensive categories. Mets skipper Carlos Mendoza usually has Young in the cleanup spot batting fourth in the order behind Carson Benge, Bichette and Soto and it’s worked out well for the team.
