A Prince George man and his wife who arrived at the scene of a fatal plane crash on Foothills Boulevard Thursday, Aug. 20, minutes after it made an emergency landing on the four-lane roadway described “a horrible disaster.” “There was a propeller lying in the middle of the road,” Wes Zapotichny told The Citizen. The collision, which happened at about 2 p.m. Thursday, involved the pickup and three other vehicles that had been in the northbound lanes. One person is confirmed dead in the collision. RCMP said the person was an occupant of one of the vehicles involved. Two others were taken to hospital in stable condition. The southbound plane with eight people on board, a twin-engine turboprop Beechcraft 200 Super King Air operated by Sekani Air Ltd., made contact with both vehicles as it made an emergency

It came to a stop with its fuselage intact. “We just came down upon it,” said Zapotichny. “Heading up Foothills there were a couple vehicles that were crunched, one (the red hatchback) that was really bad. The pickup truck had (an airplane part) in its windshield. The other vehicle looked like a rollover, I couldn’t tell what kind of vehicle it was. Farther down there was a yellow hatchback car with its rear end smashed up.” Zapotichny said he was surprised the plane was still on the road. “It’s amazing that when this plane hit these cars and the engine propeller went into the truck it didn’t cartwheel and go right into those power lines that go to North Nechako School,” said Zapotichny. Prince George RCMP, Emergency Health Services ambulances and Prince George Fire Rescue responded to the call. Police blocked off Foothills Boulevard from North Nechako Road to Austin Road.
