Kelly & 'Kai look at each other, drunk and exasperated, standing across the rooftop from one another.
NOTE TO ACTORS: Kelly & ‘Kai are trying to hurt one another in this scene. Hold nothing back.
MALAKAI
What do you mean you're broke?
KELLY
What the fuck do you think I mean? I don't have any more money!
MALAKAI
How is that possible?
KELLY
Do you realize how much money we've been spending? Apart from the fucking AirBnb's, I've been buying your alcohol and your drugs and-
MALAKAI
Oh 'cause I'm the only one who's been using those.
KELLY
I'm the only one who pays.
MALAKAI
You know I don't come from money! I spent the rest of what I had on this dinner!
KELLY
I didn't ask you to do that! And any money I come from is not going to this, okay? I pay for everything myself, and I will not implicate my father.
'Kai laughs.
MALAKAI
Implicate? Implicate! Wow. Well now that you mention it, sure, we wouldn't want to implicate your father in all of this… heinous degeneracy, now would we?
KELLY
What did you just say?
MALAKAI
You stand there and say that like your daddy is any better than us, but if I remember correctly, you told me that you had to practically drag him to rehab! And then he relapsed! And then he relapsed again!
KELLY
You're drunk.
MALAKAI
If I had half the opportunities your family did, and I mean half… boy, I'd be twice as successful and that's a fucking fact.
KELLY
Oh-my-god, what makes you so much better than everybody else? What the fuck have you accomplished?
MALAKAI
I don't have to explain myself to you.
Kelly laughs.
KELLY
See! You love telling yourself that if things were different you'd be this big-shot, but guess what, 'Kai? People have made a lot more from a lot less, and you're not going to get anywhere at the rate you're going.
MALAKAI
Oh! Well, if you can see the fucking future, then please, enlighten me, just where am I headed at this rate?
KELLY
You are going to die. Soon. And maybe you want that, but poisoning your body with every fucking substance under the sun until you croak seems like a pretty fucking stupid way of doing it if you ask me.
MALAKAI
Do you know why I do that?
KELLY
Yes, I do. All too well.
MALAKAI
Do you know how many expectations I put on myself?
KELLY
Do you know how little I give a fuck?
‘Kai takes a deep breath.
MALAKAI Objectively-
KELLY
Say objectively one more time and I walk out of that fucking door.
‘Kai shakes his head, and exhales.
MALAKAI
You know you got me into all of this.
KELLY

MALAKAI
I was getting fucked up half as much before I met you.
KELLY
Right, 'cause I'm forcing the fucking bottle down your throat every night.
MALAKAI
No, but you…
Kai stops himself.
KELLY
What? What the fuck do I do?
Kai doesn't say anything.
KELLY (CONT’D)
Say it with your chest or don't say it at all. I'm sick of this shit.
Kelly heads for the door.
MALAKAI
You know what you do? Instead of ever trying to uplift me, or make me feel good about myself, you are always there trying to bring me down. You are always making a sly joke about how I should just jump out of a window if I really want to or-
KELLY
Oh, as opposed to what you do? You probably can't remember half of the conversations we've had, and even when you're sober I feel a million miles away from you! I never know what you're thinking, and I never know how you feel about me.
MALAKAI (screaming)
I feel like you're always coming down my fucking throat! And stop pretending like you've been sober for the month we've been together!
KELLY
Malakai, I have never kissed you and not tasted weed on your breath. I will have a drink with you, and then you always go and over do it, and you're a fucking asshole for trying to blame your bullshit on me! I try to get things done during the day and be productive, but for you-
MALAKAI
But for me it's a non-stop party right? I get fucked up all the time 'cause it's just so much fun!
KELLY
That is not what I said.
MALAKAI
I am a genius. Do you realize how many things are going through my mind at any given moment? I have to numb myself.
Kelly shakes her head. Then, she starts laughing, uncontrollably. She laughs for about twenty seconds, uninterrupted.
MALAKAI (CONT’D)
What is so fucking funny?
KELLY (still laughing hysterically)
Sorry, sorry I just need to catch my breath.
Kelly collects herself, then looks at 'Kai.
KELLY (CONT’D)
Sweetheart, you're delusional!
MALAKAI
Even on my worst day I'm still the smartest person you know.
Kelly scoffs in disbelief.
KELLY
Well then if you're such a fucking genius why don't you… you know what? No. No. Maybe I should just meet some new people because you clearly are not a tenth as smart as you think you are.
MALAKAI Yeah?
KELLY
Yeah! And, hey, I don't know how smart they are, but there are always plenty of good-looking men, who clearly have money by the way, at the bars we pass by, you know, the ones you refuse we go to while we stay inside, ALL DAY EVERY FUCKING DAY!
MALAKAI
There you go! There it is. You found it! You found your fucking answer! By all means, please, please, go out and do it. Go out, and be a fucking whore. That'll really fix things, that'll show 'em.
KELLY
You know what?
Kelly tries to stop herself.
KELLY (CONT’D)
Maybe it won't… maybe it won't. But who knows, maybe I'll find somebody who can go a second round or better yet, maybe I'll find somebody who can actually make me cum!
'Kai shakes his head and sighs.
MALAKAI
You're a fucking bitch, you know that?
KELLY
And you're a sadistic fuck, where does that leave us?
MALAKAI
It leaves us with you leaving.
She's not sure if he's serious.
MALAKAI (CONT’D)
Go on. Get the fuck out of here.
Kelly scoffs in shock.
KELLY
Okay, asshole. Have fun drinking alone.
Kelly opens the door to the staircase, then starts laughing again.
KELLY (CONT’D)
You are so pathetic.
MALAKAI
Why don't you go back to your fucking modeling gig, okay? Like they need another pretty face. And don't get your hopes up, Kelly, because I don't know if they'd even take you back. You've put on a pound or… seven.
KELLY
Fuck you.
Kelly fights tears.
KELLY (CONT’D)
Fuck you. Who do you think you are?
MALAKAI
I'm a prophet, and you know what I think of you?
KELLY (smiling)
I don't, but you already knew that.
MALAKAI
I think... I think that when I first saw you, I just wanted to fuck the shit out of you. And somehow you thought that meant I could actually love you.
