Join our Facebook Group
The Facebook Group “Sherwood Lake Club Inc. A/B Members” is our official private group for members only. To join, go to groups in Facebook and search for our group. Answer the two questions and select join. Once we confirm your lake club membership you will be admitted to the group.
We also have a public Facebook Page “Sherwood Lake Club Inc. – Topeka, KS”. This will be used periodically to promote the lake and share activities of interest to the non-member community.
Shoreline and Dock
Any dock or shoreline additions or improvements must be approved by SLC. KDWR and Shawnee County Planning require a permit for any NEW improvements. Repairs or replacing existing shoreline without changing the layout do not require permits. When in doubt, give the SLC Lake Manager a call at 785-221-3248. For new docks or lifts contact Rob Harrison at 443-695-8924.

Sherwood Lake Fishery
Sherwood Lake recently completed its 2026 Fishery Management Survey with Midwest Lake Management, and the overall report on the lake’s health was very positive. The consultants noted that Sherwood Lake continues to support a strong and balanced sport fishery with healthy populations of largemouth bass, hybrid striped bass (“wipers”), bluegill, and forage fish.
Some highlights from the report include:
• Largemouth bass fishing remains excellent, with healthy fish across multiple size classes and several trophy-sized bass observed during the survey. The lake continues to provide “fast-action” fishing with quality fish available throughout the lake.
• Hybrid striped bass (wipers) are thriving and are helping naturally manage the crappie population while also providing exciting sport fishing opportunities.
• Bluegill and shad populations remain strong, providing an excellent forage base that supports continued fish growth and overall lake balance.
The primary fisheries challenge identified continues to be an overabundance of smaller crappie in the 6–8 inch range. To improve the opportunity for larger crappie in the future, the consultants recommend increased harvest of smaller crappie by anglers.
The report also noted that shallow areas in some coves and upper arms of the lake continue to gradually fill in over time due to sedimentation. While not considered an immediate concern, the consultants encouraged continued long-term evaluation of dredging and habitat improvement opportunities to help maintain water depth, boating access, and overall lake health.
Additional recommendations included:
• Continued monitoring of aquatic vegetation growth
• Removal of common carp when possible
• Additional stocking of hybrid striped bass
• Exploration of fish habitat enhancement projects
• Ongoing fishery surveys every 1–2 years to monitor trends and maintain the lake’s high-quality fishery
Overall, the consultants were very pleased with the condition of Sherwood Lake and indicated that the lake continues to be one of the more desirable fisheries in the region.

Water Quality Testing Update
The Lake Quality & Environment Committee completed its first round of water quality sampling for the 2026 season on May 13. Overall, the results indicated that the lake remains in good condition with no significant active water quality concerns identified. Testing showed E. coli and fecal coliform levels were well below recommended safety thresholds, and phosphorus, nitrate, and ammonia levels were generally within acceptable ranges. Mild levels of microcystins associated with blue-green algae were detected, but no harmful blooms were observed. Water clarity and overall lake conditions were consistent with prior years.
The report did note that the West End continues to be more vulnerable to runoff impacts following significant rain events due to upstream agricultural activity. As a precaution, members should use additional caution with water-contact recreation in that area for several days after heavy rainfall. The LQEC will continue routine monitoring throughout the season to help ensure the safety and enjoyment of the lake for all members.
Spring Fertilizer Use
As we move into the spring season, we encourage all members to use fertilizer responsibly and only when truly needed. Excess fertilizer—especially products high in phosphorus—can wash into the lake during spring rains, contributing to algae growth and declining water quality. A soil test is the best way to determine your lawn’s actual needs. By following product recommendations and avoiding over-application, we can all help protect the health and beauty of our lake. n
The Lake Quality & Environmental Committee (LQEC) is seeking additional volunteer members who have an interest in helping preserve and improve the health, quality, and long-term sustainability of our lake environment. The committee advises the Board on issues impacting the lake, including water quality, sedimentation, environmental concerns, and other lake-related matters. We are especially interested in members who have experience, knowledge, or a strong interest in lake-related issues and a desire to contribute ideas and solutions that benefit our Lake. If you are interested in getting involved, we would welcome your participation.
Lake Manager's Report
Asboating season begins, members are reminded to pick up their 2027 registration stickers from Lake Patrol or the Lake Manager. Registration stickers, along with your member number, must be clearly displayed on all watercraft operating on the lake.
For everyone enjoying time on the water this summer, members are also strongly encouraged to refresh their knowledge regarding safety and boating regulations. Anyone operating a boat must complete the online boater safety course at-least one time. The course is an excellent way to promote safe operation of all watercraft and help ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone on the lake.
Several recent improvements have been completed around the marina, including the installation of 30 new composite deck boards. Members currently renting marina slips are encouraged to review the updated Rules and Regulations adopted in 2024, specifically Page 13, Section K regarding Marina Slips.
The Lake Patrol team has also expanded with the addition of new employee Lincoln Vogel. Please join us in welcoming Lincoln to the Sherwood Lake community.

A special thank you once again goes to Judy Nightingale for her continued work planting and maintaining flowers at both the beach and clubhouse. Her efforts help keep these areas beautiful for all members to enjoy.
Members are reminded that beach cards should be reported immediately if lost so they can be deactivated by the Lake Manager. Each card contains a unique identification number for security purposes. Replacement cards are available for $15.00.
To continue monitoring lake health throughout the summer season, water samples will be collected and sent to Midwest Laboratories, Inc. during May, June, July, and August for testing and analysis.
The Lake Quality & Environmental Committee are reviewing the results of the 2026 fish study. Recommendations and future fishery discussions based on the report are
scheduled for the May 26, 2026 Board Meeting, with additional feedback and future testing recommendations to be provided by the LQEC.
Following the recent 4.5-inch rainstorm, a significant amount of sand from the beach washed into the lake. Arrangements have already been made to have the sand pulled back into the beach area, and the beach will be regraded and smoothed in preparation for the busy summer season.
Finally, donations for the July 4th fireworks celebration are now being accepted. Members can conveniently contribute through the new donation link available on the website. Every contribution helps continue one of Sherwood Lake’s favorite holiday traditions. n

Sherwood Lake Club Fishing Regulations
The following creel, possession and slot limits shall apply to all fishing on Lake Sherwood.
Individuals that violate these limits shall be suspended from all Lake Club Privileges for one (1) year from date of violation, in addition to “Penalties” as may be determined under the Sherwood Lake Club Rules and Regulations which may be amended or updated from time to time.
NO WARNING WILL BE ISSUED!
