This November, award-winning actor Tom Hanks, is back with another film, which is set to get him more award nominations and win him more trophies. Bridge of Spies is an upcoming American historical thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Matt Charman, Ethan Coen and Joel Coen. With a starstudded cast including Mark Bylance, Amy Ryan and Alan Aida, the film is based on the 1960 U-2 incident and is set to be huge. Tom plays Brooklyn lawyer, James B. Donovan who is thrust into the centre of the Cold War when he is given a mission to negotiate the release of Francis Gary Powers, a pilot whose U-2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union. The American actor has an acting career spanning over 30 years and has also turned his attention to producing, directing and writing films. His most popular film titles include ‘Big’ in 1988, ‘Forrest Gump’ in 1994 and ‘The Da Vinci Code’ in 2006 and he has even been dubbed one of

the world’s highest gross-selling actors of all time. He is the second actor to win back to back ‘Best Actor’ Oscars for his roles in 1993’s ‘Philadelphia’ and 1994’s ‘Forrest Gump and he also received the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award in 2002. Tom is the youngest person to receive this award and we think he definitely deserved it. There’s no slowing down for Tom either, as he’s currently working on a staggering 6 films, one of which is ‘Toy Story 4’ which will be released in 2017. But how does he do it? “I love what I do for a living, it’s the greatest job in the world, but you have to survive an awful lot of attention and you have to live up to your professional responsibilities and I’m always trying to balance that with what is really important.” The film will have its world premiere at the 53rd annual New York Film festival and will be released in the UK on 27th November. n

Canvey Island
