PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Fellow Members,

I am delighted to be sending you this message as your President.

Since joining as a Member in 2001, I have served in various roles at the Club for over 20 years. I have seen how this Club has transformed from mediocre to world class. Most memorable was when we were awarded the Best Golf Club in the world.

This was achieved through the combined effort of all the people who had served and the excellent Management team. The support from our Proprietors was critical too and most importantly, the support of our esteemed Members.

Every Member in our Club is a distinguished person, successful and champions in their own right. But together, we enjoy excellent camaraderie in our Club, like old friends, golfing, dining, or just having drinks together. It is an atmosphere we cherish and must protect.

We come to the Club to relax and enjoy ourselves with family and friends. Enjoy our golf at the best in the world Tanjong and Serapong, experience the friendly service and excellent food. Always a special experience.

Undoubtedly, it’s also a prestigious status to be a Member of Sentosa Golf Club. This prestigious standing is because we have the privilege to host the best professional golfing events in the world. Hosting such tournaments successfully allow us to be recognised by every golfer in the world.

Andy and his team has done us all proud, priming our golf courses and greens into such a pristine condition, to be the envy of other clubs.

This year, we hosted three major international tournaments showcasing Sentosa Golf Club and Singapore to the world. The Club deeply appreciates the

sacrifices made by our Members for these spectacular events and together, we take pride in knowing that it will benefit Singapore, our Sentosa branding and perhaps our Membership value too. A win win for everyone.

One person who was instrumental in our progress over 25 years is Bob Tan who recently retired as Chairman. I recall how we had massive burnt fairways on Tanjong before Bob became Captain. Thank you Bob.

A warm welcome to our new Chairman Edmund Koh who I know will lead us to even greater heights. Edmund is also a long time Member.

The best leaders can only achieve success if they have a good team. Without a doubt, one of the best decisions taken was having Andy as our Director of Agronomy and subsequently our General Manager. Andy and his team are tireless, dedicated and committed to ensure that we continue to enjoy the wonderful experience and prestige as Members of Sentosa Golf Club.

Dear Members,

April marked not only the start of a new financial year, but also the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Club. We are delighted to welcome our new Chairman, Edmund Koh, whose leadership and vision will help guide the Club into its next era of growth and excellence.

We are equally pleased to welcome our new President, Vernon Khoo. Vernon is a familiar and well-respected face within the Club, having previously served as Captain, and we are delighted to see him return in this important new capacity.

Please join us in warmly welcoming both Edmund and Vernon. We look forward to working closely with them as they lead Sentosa Golf Club forward, with Edmund serving as Chairman of Sentosa Development Corporation and Vernon taking on a role as Board Member.

The past few months have been an especially busy period for all of us at the Club, with a larger-than-usual tournament season that placed significant demands on both our team and our Members. We would like to sincerely thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support throughout this time. Your encouragement meant a great deal, particularly to our staff, many of whom worked tirelessly through consecutive holidays to ensure each event was delivered to the highest standard.

We were deeply humbled by the many compliments received from players, officials, guests, and visitors from around the world on how both of our courses looked and played throughout the tournament season. It was a proud moment for everyone involved to hear Sentosa Golf Club spoken of alongside some of the world’s most respected venues. That recognition belongs not only to the team, but also to our Members, whose support helps make such achievements possible.

We understand that the events may at times have briefly disrupted your usual golfing routines, and we are truly grateful for your patience during this period. We hope the global prestige, reputation, and goodwill earned through these events will return lasting value to the Club and to all Members for many years to come.

Now that tournament season is behind us, we are turning our focus to several important enhancement projects that will help us continue elevating your Club experience.

SERAPONG GREENS ENHANCEMENT

Our first priority is the continued purification and restoration of the perimeter edges of the Serapong greens. Last year, we successfully completed work on 10 holes, and this year we will address the remaining 8.

definition of the greens edges and affecting overall turf consistency. To restore these areas to the highest standard, we will carefully treat and eradicate the unwanted grasses before removing the affected turf and replanting with fresh TifEagle grown in our nursery. This method ensures a cleaner, healthier, and more durable result, while preserving the quality and presentation expected of the course.

During the treatment process, affected grass areas will temporarily turn brown and may appear more noticeable than usual. While this is part of the restoration process, please be assured that the work is essential for maintaining premium putting surfaces and will not impact playability.

Course improvement is never a one-time task. It is an ongoing commitment, and one we pursue with pride so we can continue setting new standards for your enjoyment. Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.

TANJONG COURSE UPGRADES

We are also pleased to share several planned improvements for the Tanjong Course:

The bunker sand is now 10 to 11 years old and nearing the end of its service life. Natural contamination from silt has reduced consistency and drainage performance, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. Replacing the sand will significantly improve both playability and conditioning.

We will be reshaping and refreshing the short game practice area, including improvements to the short game green.

Selected tees that have gradually become uneven over time will be releveled to improve both presentation and playing conditions.

We also have several clubhouse enhancements planned this year, beginning with upgrades to the public announcement system. More exciting improvements are in the pipeline, and we look forward to sharing details with you soon.

As we begin the 2026 financial year, we are excited about the opportunities ahead. With your continued support, we remain committed to progressing forward, improving every aspect of the Club, and delivering an exceptional experience for all Members.

Mr Edmund Koh Chairman, Asia Pacific, UBS AG

Mr Edmund Koh brings extensive leadership experience across the banking and financial sectors to guide Sentosa in its next phase of growth.

Mr Koh is Chairman of Sentosa Development Corporation, after previously serving on the SDC Board since 1 October 2024, initially as a member, before assuming the role of Deputy Chairman on 1 April 2025.

With a distinguished career spanning senior leadership roles at UBS, DBS and Prudential, Mr Koh also contributes actively to public and industry boards.

His appointment reflects Sentosa's continued commitment to strong governance and strategic leadership.

Mr Vernon Khoo has been a longstanding Member of Sentosa Golf Club since 2001 and our Captain from 2017 to 2023. He brings with him deep knowledge of our Club and a wealth of entrepreneurial and business experience.

Mr Khoo is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Flagship Corporation, with interests spanning trading and infrastructure investments across the region.

Mr Khoo’s familiarity with the Club and strong business acumen will support its continued growth and member experience.

SMYTH'S INCREDIBLE 72nd-HOLE PUTT CLINCHES INTERNATIONAL SERIES JAPAN

Travis Smyth’s dream run continued when he made an eagle putt on the par-five 18th to win the International Series Japan by one.

In a riveting finish, he drained a 20-footer to narrowly avoid a play-off with Thailand’s Pavit Tangkamolprasert and Ryosuke Kinoshita from Japan at Caledonian Golf Club, near Tokyo.

The Australian’s brilliant finish saw him shoot a seven-under-par 64 to move to 15-under, with Pavit and Kinoshita finishing on 14-under.

Pavit and Kinoshita had earlier turned the tournament on its head by shooting scintillating rounds of 62 and 63 respectively to come through from much further back. The former was in the 10th from last group and Kinoshita the sixth.

Korea’s Hongtaek Kim and Shugo Imahira from Japan had started the day sharing the lead but were unable to keep up with the fast pace being set. Kim shot a 69 to tie for fifth while Imahira returned a 70 for equal seventh.

The 31-year-old also finished third and fifth in the first two events of the season on the Asian Tour and still leads the Order of Merit, as well as The International Series Rankings.

SENTOSA WELCOMES ASIAN TOUR’S SHINING LIGHTS

Before the start of the Singapore Open the glittering Asian Tour Awards night took place at the Equarius Hotel at Resorts World Sentosa. Japan’s Kazuki Higa took centre stage receiving both the Asian Tour Order of Merit trophy and The Kyi Hla Han Award (pictured) for the Player of the Year title.

The other winners of the night were the PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers, recognised as the Tournament of the Year, and the Link Hong Kong Open, which was The International Series Tournament of the Year.

Royal Golf Dar Es Salam’s Red Course, venue for the International Series Morocco, won the Players’ Choice Course of the Year.

HSBC WWC WINNER GREEN claims more silverware IN THE US

Hannah Green’s seemingly unstoppable season continued at the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro in California with a one-shot victory.

Green, who triumphed on The Tanjong in the HSBC Worlds in March, claimed her fourth title of the season at El Caballero Country Club, the third time she’s won the tournament in the last four seasons.

The 29-year-old player joined Hyo Joo Kim as the only two-time winners this season on the LPGA Tour and ran her worldwide 2026 victory total to four.

Green has eight career LPGA Tour victories. She won the HSBC Women's World Championship in Singapore early last month and also took the Women's Australian Open and Australian WPGA in consecutive weeks.

Sentosa welcomes world with Open arms

All the stars aligned at Sentosa Golf Club last month as the Singapore Open returned in style.

A third world class tournament in just eight weeks was a triumph with crowds flocking to watch the best players on the Asian Tour, and The Serapong course offering a challenge to rival any golf course in the whole of Asia.

An amazing team effort from everyone as the Club sent all our guests home happy and was a truly memorable event for all involved.

Victory went to Korea’s Jeongwoo Ham, who led from start to finish before he completed a two-shot victory on the final day.

He was made to work extremely hard for it though by impressive young Australian Cameron John after a gripping final day duel. Ham closed with a three-under-par 68 to finish on 16-under and beat John by two shots.

John shot a 66 while Spain’s Josele Ballester, Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond and

Tomohiro Ishizaka from Japan shared third, a distant seven behind the winner.

The result also secured Ham and John places in this summer’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, as the tournament is part of the Open Qualifying Series.

The Korean’s performance is one of the most impressive in the 57-year history of Singapore’s National Open, considering a place in the game’s oldest Major was on the line.

“Of course you still need to hit good shots, but because it was so hot,” Ham said “I actually wasn’t overthinking the golf too much. That probably helped me stay relaxed. I just wanted to finish quickly, shower, and lie down under the air-conditioning!”

Ham becomes the second Korean to win the event. Younghan Song was the first in 2016 when he beat then world number one Jordan Spieth from the United States by one, also on The Serapong.

It was a notable moment for many involved in Sentosa Golf Club, including Mr Bob Tan who would be completing his role as Chairman, a position he has occupied since 2005.

Stars of the future

The Junior Medal held on 22 March saw 17 juniors take to the course for a 9-hole medal event, showcasing their skills, determination and growing passion for the game. It was an encouraging sight to witness our young golfers in action, as they navigated the course with focus and resilience, gaining valuable experience while enjoying friendly competition among their peers.

The event provided a wonderful platform for juniors to build confidence, develop their game, and learn important aspects of sportsmanship and course etiquette. From tee to green, there were many commendable moments that reflected their dedication and enthusiasm for golf.

Adding to the fun and support, Skye and Trent also tagged along, cheering the juniors on and contributing to the lively and positive atmosphere throughout the day. Their presence brought an extra layer of encouragement, making the experience even more memorable for the participants.

CELEBRATING TWO REMARKABLE LEADERS

The Chairman & President Appreciation Golf and Dinner on 28 March was a meaningful occasion that brought together invited guests for an afternoon of camaraderie and celebration. The day began with an afternoon round of golf, where participants enjoyed friendly competition and the beautiful surroundings of the course. It was a fitting way to honour two individuals who have devoted so much of their time and passion to the Club.

Following the game, guests gathered for an intimate dinner where the evening continued in a relaxed and warm atmosphere. Accompanied by music, the session allowed everyone to unwind, share stories and enjoy each other’s company. A photo montage of memorable moments was also presented, reflecting the many milestones, achievements and shared experiences during their time of service. The evening was less about formality and more about appreciation, with members simply enjoying the opportunity to connect and reminisce.

Throughout the night, conversations flowed easily as guests reflected on the journey of the Club and the leadership that had helped shape its direction. Both Chairman Bob Tan and President Andrew Lim have played important roles in guiding Sentosa Golf Club over the years, dedicating countless hours and energy to strengthening the Club and its community.

As the evening drew to a close, it was clear that the event was not only a celebration of their leadership, but also of the friendships and shared memories formed along the way. On behalf of the Club, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Chairman Bob Tan and President Andrew Lim for their unwavering support, service and dedication. Their contributions have left a lasting impact on Sentosa Golf Club, and we are deeply grateful for the time and commitment they have given to the Club and its members.

ALL HAIL THE SERAPONG!

As the crowds flocked to Sentosa and the brash fun of Aramco LIV Golf Singapore was in full swing, it was The Serapong which stole the show

As ever, there was a party feel when the unmistakeable fun and fanfare of LIV Golf came to Sentosa Golf Club.

Many of the world’s best players, amazing food, children’s activities and vibrant entertainment made for another unforgettable week.

But cutting through the noise was respect for The Serapong. Before Bryson DeChambeau sealed victory in a playoff, the players were lining up to praise our famous layout as one of the very best in Asia, if not the world.

“This is the best I've seen it in the past few years being here. Greens are some of the fastest I've ever seen in my entire life, which I love. It's my favourite thing. I feel like I roll the ball really well on good greens and consequently made a lot of putts, thankfully.”

“This course is taking no prisoners, but the golf course is in incredible condition. The greens are some of, if not the best, I've ever seen, certainly in Asia but anywhere, really. There's no excuse for missing putts on these greens. You start them on line, they really do hold the line and stay true.”

“I think it is one of the most challenging and best golf courses I will play ever in the season. The greens are in such good shape. You feel like you're on an artist when you see the greens. You've got to see the lines, try to get a feel and see the lines, try to make them from long distance, big breaking puts, so it's a lot of fun.

“It's a nice view, really nice conditions. I just love it here. I've got really good memories, as well. It's nice to be here, nice to be back in a place where you have a lot of good memories.”

“This golf course is not easy. The greens are firm. They're very, very good. They're rolling great. So if you're feeling good with the putter, you can have a lot of good chances. But it's not easy. You've got to hit fairways and be really accurate with the mid-irons. So on the same hole if you choose to lay up off the tee, you might end up with a 6-iron, and if the next day you're aggressive and it's a front pin, you have a wedge shot. So there's a lot of variability on the course and how it plays and what you decide to do.”

“I think this course has been so good throughout the years that it really hasn't

needed any much tinkering and stuff like that. A couple of tees here and there maybe, maybe a couple of the greens they've made a tiny bit bigger in a couple spots. But other than that, it looks pretty similar to what it was maybe 10 or 15 years ago. So that speaks volumes for the course.”

Lusi Masaveu – Fireballs GC

“It's a great course. I mean, it's a course where you have to play very well, as well, in all parts of the game. It's fast. If you miss the fairways, the rough, it's hard. Yeah, it's a course where you have to play well. I think it's nice because if you play well, I think it's going to stand out, and if you play bad, as well, the same. So yeah, it's a course where you have to play well.”

This last month saw its fair share of farewells but we also celebrated some incredible landmarks from our loyal, hard-working team. For many people, working at Sentosa Golf Club is a lifelong commitment such is their passion and dedication to this remarkable venue.

Q&A with Khalid

Can you tell us a little about yourself and when you started working at Sentosa Golf Club?

I first joined Sentosa Golf Club in 1980, took a short break for National Service, and returned in 1985. Over the years, I have witnessed the course go through four major renovations. What has remained constant is the strong support from my colleagues and the spirit of teamwork, which I believe is what makes us one of the best in Asia. I am proud to be part of a team that maintains such a fantastic course to a very high standard.

What is one piece of advice you would share with your colleagues or the younger generation?

Working outdoors can be challenging, especially in the heat, and the hours can be demanding. However, perseverance and a strong work ethic go a long way. It is important to lead by example and stay committed to doing your best every day.

Two titles in only her second full year on the Tour and Sentosa’s star won the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit crown

2025 was a tumultuous year for Shannon Tan, a special player close to the hearts to everyone involved with Sentosa Golf Club.

Her rise through the ranks of world golf has been remarkable and in April she garnered another special award when she was named The Straits Times’ Athlete of the Year.

“A lot of Singaporean athletes have done well the past year and they’ve achieved a lot, said Shannon, whose parents Desmond and Winnie Cheong collected the award on her behalf as she was overseas playing at the Aramco Championship in Las Vegas.

“I didn’t expect it to be me so I was definitely shocked when I first heard that I’d won the award.”

Her career has been characterised by the kind of ‘firsts’ she should be incredibly proud of.

She became the first player from Singapore to secure full playing rights on the Ladies European Tour after she qualified in December 2023.

She then won the opening event of the

2024 season in her LET debut as a professional, represented Singapore at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and then topped the LET Order of Merit at the end of last year.

It’s the first time a golfer has won the annual award which started in 2009 beating sprinter Shanti Pereira, paraswimmer Yip Pin Xiu, bowler New Hui Fen, swimmer Letitia Sim and pool player Aloysius Yapp to the accolade.

ST sports editor Low Lin Fhoong, who headed the seven-member panel which selected Tan, said the Sentosa Golf Club ambassador had achieved much in a short space of time in one of sport’s most competitive fields.

“What she has achieved so quickly since turning pro has surprised us, and may she continue to surprise us in the seasons ahead,” said Low.

“Shannon speaks about wanting to inspire more young people to play the sport and I hope that with her achievements and this award, she will be able to do so.”
