THOMAS A. FESSLER
Thomas A. Fessler is an accomplished legal executive whose commitment to forward-thinking strategies and sound counsel has propelled the success of the global companies he has represented in his professional and legal career of 40 years.
Mr. Fessler served for more than 15 years as chief legal officer and general counsel at VSP Global, a $10 billion healthcare organization based in Sacramento, California. Before his tenure with VSP Global, he held senior general counsel positions with Mellon Bank and Dover Corporation. He has also provided leadership through board service with Buck, Heinzmann GmbH, VSP Global, and its subsidiaries, including Marchon Eyewear. In addition, Mr. Fessler served as chair and trustee of the National Elevator Industry pension and health plans, advocating on behalf of thousands of workers and their families.
A loyal Pepperdine alumnus, Mr. Fessler is an active member of the George Pepperdine Society and a trusted advisor to the Caruso School of Law and the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution. In recognition of his professional accomplishments and contributions to the healthcare industry, he was honored as part of Pepperdine’s Outstanding Alumni in Healthcare campaign in 2020.
Thomas Fessler received an athletic scholarship to Marquette University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a double major in 1980. He completed his juris doctor at the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law in 1983.
G. MARCUS COLE
G. Marcus Cole is a legal and academic innovator whose experience in law and economics has been instrumental in protecting individual rights and strengthening fairness within the justice system, while his leadership in higher education has made a lasting impact on preparing the next generation of service-driven attorneys.
During his 22 years at Stanford Law School, Mr. Cole served as professor of law and associate dean and held two endowed chairs, including the William F. Baxter-Visa International Professor of Law. In 2019 Mr. Cole was named the Joseph A. Matson Dean and Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame Law School, making him the 11th dean in the school’s history. His dedication to education and service fosters a culture at the school that is rich in intellectual rigor and selfless leadership.
Mr. Cole’s deep belief in religious freedom and wrongful conviction reform led him to found the Notre Dame Religious Liberty Initiative and the Notre Dame Exoneration Justice Clinic. Through the exoneration clinic, students advocate for the vulnerable and underserved in the justice system, including presenting new research and perspectives to the US Supreme Court.
Mr. Cole served as a national fellow at the Hoover Institution, a fellow at the University of Amsterdam Center for Law and Economics, and a visiting professor at several leading institutions worldwide. His selfless leadership extends to service on civic and charitable boards, including the Anti-Defamation League and the Liberty Fund.
G. Marcus Cole earned his bachelor’s degree in applied economics from Cornell University in 1989 and his juris doctor at the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law in 1993. He clerked for Judge Morris Sheppard Arnold of the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
