I love to laugh. Anyone who has attended a comedy with me in the audience can attest to that.
That’s it in a nutshell. I love comedy. From Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton to Jason Segal and The Simpsons. I love it all. Someone once said, “Laughter is the best medicine,” and I couldn’t agree more.
We need laughter more than ever these days. That’s why I chose RUMORS, a play I first encountered in 2005. It remains one of the funniest scripts I’ve ever read.
RUMORS is Neil Simon’s first farce, and did he ever knock it out of the park! “"This is completely different for me...It's unlike anything I've ever written.”
A farce relies on believable characters in extreme circumstances. The pace is frantic. The action rarely lets up. And then they give you an intermission to catch your breath!
This is the first full-length play I’ve directed. I could not have done it without the incredible support of my cast and crew, especially Cherie Ulmer and Walt Haight. And of my wife who allows me to spend my evenings doing what I love best. Thanks, honey! I hope you enjoy the show as much as we enjoy putting it on. Debra Marie Bond Hackleman 9/16/1952 to 6/28/2020
Deb loved music and musicals, playing flute here at Pentacle and other venues. On every return, she expressed joy with the orchestra and all the crew. Novels, videos, plays, and especially mysteries were pure joy. Instrumental in enabling women to play in the OSU Pep bands in the early 70’s, she also co-founded the “Flute Cocktail” ensemble in Corvallis and chaired the flute section, the Corvallis Community Band. Their chairs for outdoor concerts are in memory of her. An alumnus of OSU, the music department asked her to stay in the bands and aid the flute section and on worldwide tours. She helped found the OSU Alumni Pep Band. Less well known, with both an MS in Library and Computer Science, her PNW library colleagues honored her for her leadership in actions that enable folks at participating universities to utilize networked resources. Deb (Amateur Radio Licensee) volunteered in the Benton County Emergency Services. While she can no longer be physically here with us, it is certain that she is delighted to help make this play possible for us all to enjoy. Mike loved music, playing many instruments throughout his life. He helped many children develop an appreciation of music. He attended his first year of college in Oklahoma, then enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. After auditioning Mike was invited to become a saxophonist in the West Point Army Band. He played under many directors, including Arthur Fiedler of the Boston Pops, and studied flute in NYC. After the Army he attended the University of Oregon, graduating with a double major- Flute Performance and German. He returned to school getting his K-12 teaching certificate. He taught music and languages for many years at all K-12 levels. In 1983 Mike applied for and received a Fulbright Teacher Exchange to Sinsheim, (then West) Germany - close to Heidelberg. That was an outstanding year for us and our two daughters- broadening our horizons, making many friends, and traveling over much of Germany and Europe.
Music was a continual theme in Mike’s family life, conducting choirs, being in choirs (we often sang together), and teaching. A particular joy — singing rounds in the car when our daughters were little to make hours of travel go faster.

Robert Alan Barnett Director
Robert Alan Barnett (Bob) is thrilled to be directing at Pentacle for the first time! Previously, he was Assistant Director for Arsenic & Old Lace here and for several productions in the Seattle area. As an actor, he was last seen as Kolenkhov in You Can’t Take It With You. Other roles here include Colonel Melkett in Black Comedy, Colonel Mustard in Clue, Arthur Birling in An Inspector Calls, Chris Bean (The Director) in The Play That Goes Wrong, Malvolio in Twelfth Night, and Henry in The Fantasticks. Other shows in the Valley include Flute/Thisby in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Antigonus in The Winter’s Tale, both for Struts & Frets Theatre Co., and Gloucester in Majestic Theatre’s Wars of the Roses. He will be playing Paul Sheldon this October in Keizer Homegrown Theatre’s production of Misery. He has performed at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Cleveland Play House and the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival, among others. But he is most proud of his wife of 41 years, Laurie, his two daughters, Sheena and Halley, and his grandson, Jayden.
Walter Haight Assistant Director
Walt lives in McMinnville and always enjoys working in Pentacle Theater productions. He recently appeared as Shylock in Something Rotten and played an assortment of characters in the 2025 hit musical Hairspray. A retired Engineering Technician, Walt currently serves on the Board of McMinnville's Public Access Television Station and also appears periodically in Gallery Theater productions. He and his wife Dawn try to see as many stage productions as possible to support friends who trod the boards and call the shots.

Travis is delighted to be a part of Pentacle's production of Rumors He last appeared on the Pentacle stage as Tony in In-laws, Outlaws, and Other People (That Should Be Shot). His other favorite past roles include Mortimer Brewster in Arsenic & Old Lace, Oates in Terra Nova, The Earl of Bothwell in Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off, and Ralph in Frozen (no relation to the Disney musical). When he's not at the theater, in his garden, or gone fishing, Travis works as a hydrogeologist for the Oregon Water Resources Department. Sara is thrilled to return to Pentacle.
A teacher at Howard Street Charter School, she has also worked as a director, choreographer, and teacher at CET for many seasons.
After a 20-plus year hiatus from performing, Sara made her Pentacle debut last summer in Hairspray. She studied theater at Loyola Marymount University and The British American Drama Academy in London. When not on stage, Sara enjoys singing with the Willamette Master Chorus and embracing her status as the ultimate Disney fan. She would like to thank her husband and children for their unwavering support of her passions.
Vanessa Fisher Officer Pudney
Vanessa is an actress based in Portland, Oregon. This is her first production with Pentacle Theatre. Previous theater credits include Dischord in The Phantom Tollbooth (University of Oregon Theatre Department; 2023), Clara in Hay Fever (University of Oregon Theatre Department; 2022), Farrah in She Kills Monsters (Tualatin High School Theatre Department; 2020), and the Bellhop in Lend Me A Tenor (Tualatin High School Theatre Department; 2019).
Vanessa acted in several short films with the University of Oregon Film Department and appeared in Off and On (2023), Purple Love (2023), Levels (2023), and Bien Pretty (2024). Vanessa has also performed stand-up comedy at open mic nights at Turn! Turn! Turn!
Outside of acting, Vanessa works as an esthetician. In her free time, she enjoys weightlifting and reading. Vanessa is thankful for her family’s and friends’ support.

Jen Killikelly Claire Ganz
Jennifer is excited to be onstage in her third performance at Pentacle Theatre. Her recent stage credits include Colleen in Ripcord (2024), Izzy in Rabbit Hole (2023), and Dr. Livingston in Agnes of God (2025) for a fundraising workshop performance. She has also contributed behind the scenes as a crew member on Brighton Beach (2024) and as an assistant director on Over the River and Through the Woods (2022). In addition to her performance work, Jennifer is serving on the Pentacle Board. She is a member of the Marketing Committee, a Hospitality volunteer, and a regular student in the acting workshop. Jennifer works as a social worker in the community and lives with her husband, children, and two chihuahuas. She is grateful to her families both at home and at Pentacle Theatre for their support and encouragement.
Todd Logan Officer Welch
After appearing in this season's production of You Can't Take It With You, Todd is thrilled to be back on the Pentacle stage with another incredibly talented cast and crew. Among his favorite Pentacle parts are Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol; Tim in Noises Off! (a role he also played at Albany Civic Theater); Edward, the history-enthralled divorcee in Retreat From Moscow; and the shady Irish criminal Major Powell in Corpse!. Todd has also been seen locally as Prospero in The Tempest at Keizer Homegrown Theatre, as Devery in Born Yesterday at Gallery Theater, and Mr. Smee in Peter Pan & Wendy at Chemeketa Community College. Todd served on the Pentacle Governing Board from 2019 through 2021. Todd has been married for more than 30 years and has two kids who have both appeared on the Pentacle Stage. He works for the state of Oregon.
Laura McDonald Cookie Cusack
Laura is grateful to continue her Pentacle journey! She was last seen as Bea Bottom in Something Rotten. Other Pentacle shows include Hairspray (Prudy, Matron) and Big Fish (Ensemble). Prior to this, she spent over 10 years performing in the Milwaukee, WI area. Favorite shows include Mamma Mia! (Donna), Next to Normal (Diana), Legally Blonde (Paulette), and Parade (Lucille). When she's not cooking, gaming, and obsessing over her adorable cats, Laura works at Open Dental Software and hosts monthly trivia at Ankeny Vineyard. She'd like to thank her friends, family, and especially her partner, Teresa, and their three cats (Bella, Ollie, and Gus) for constant love and support. Enjoy the show!
Elizabeth Ming Cassie Cooper
Elizabeth returns to the Pentacle stage after performing as Maria in Twelfth Night, Vixen in Dracula, and Messenger in 1984. She has also supported Pentacle as an assistant director, stage manager, and crew for multiple other productions. Other theater-related work experience includes She Kills Monsters and Pride and Prejudice at Albany Civic Theater; Boeing, Boeing and A Doll’s House, Part 2 at Keizer Homegrown Theatre; Biosphere and Acts of Creation at Theatre 33; Talking With… at Gallery Theater; and Circle Mirror Transformation at The Verona Studio.

Lenny Ganz
Scott returned to the Salem area in 2020 after spending most of the previous 40 years living in Los Angeles. At Pentacle, Scott has been seen in It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, The Prom, at The Elsinore in A Little Night Music: In Concert, and was last seen as Wilbur Turnblad in Pentacle’s Hairspray. At Pentacle, he directed Terra Nova in 2022, Arsenic and Old Lace in 2025, and You Can’t Take It With You earlier this year. He also designed and applied the prosthetic makeup for 2023’s Shrek, The Musical.
Prior to 2020, Scott taught makeup, acting, and directed plays as a faculty member at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood since 1985.
He has been the makeup designer at Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Fright Fest event in Los Angeles since 1992. He appeared on Season 5 of the Syfy television series Face/Off. He designed makeup for numerous productions at The Old Globe in San Diego, including the world premiere of Meteor Shower by Steve Martin and Camp David with Richard Thomas.

What a journey the cast of The Lost Virginity Tour gave us. We laughed, cried, rejoiced in their perseverance, and celebrated friendship at the heart of the story. Thank you to Karen McCarty and the amazing cast and crew who brought this sweet and tender production to our stage.
GOATS! That’s right, our little theater in the woods will be hosting a herd of goats at the end of June/early July. They will help with clearing brush overgrowth, ivy, poison oak & anything else they can eat on our 5 acres! This will be a great way to reduce wildfire fuel while being eco-friendly. Big thanks to Liz Rogers for getting this organized.

Beginning in January 2027, Pentacle Theatre will implement a $2.00 service fee on individual ticket purchases. This fee will offset nearly 80% of our current vendor and processing fees associated with ticket sales and concession transactions and is not retained as additional theater revenue.
The good news: Season Ticket holders will continue to enjoy fee-free ticket purchases as a benefit of their support. If you’re not yet a Season Ticket holder, purchasing season tickets for our 2027 season will not only provide savings through our discounted package pricing (it’s like seeing 7 shows for the price of 6), but also allow you to avoid the new service fee while supporting the theater through your advance commitment.

TICKET INFORMATION
Tickets for upcoming productions are available online at pentacletheatre.org, in person at the box office (197 Liberty St. SE, Salem), or by phone 503-485-4300. Box office hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11am – 5pm.
CONCESSIONS
Concessions are available in the lobby. Wine and beer can be purchased along with an assortment of other beverages and brought with you to enjoy during the show. Food is not permitted in the auditorium. Purchase a souvenir cup and receive $1 off your next drink.
NO LATE SEATING
Once the production begins, the theater doors will be closed for further seating. If you arrive after the doors have been closed, you are welcome to view the production on the monitors in the lobby downstairs.
If you need to leave the theater during the performance, you can view the production on the monitors in the downstairs lobby, and catch up with your party when they exit at the end of the show.
SMOKING
Smoking is allowed only in the designated area outside the lobby.
NO RECORDING DEVICES
Cameras (with or without flash) and recording devices are strictly prohibited. Please turn off cell phones during the performance.
