Dear Friends, On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire Peninsula Players Theatre community, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our 90th season. That’s right—we’re celebrating 90 years! What began as two planks and a passion has truly stood the test of time. As the oldest professional resident summer theatre in the country, Peninsula Players Theatre continues its proud tradition of presenting outstanding productions on the beautiful shores of Green Bay. Whether this is your first visit or your 90th, I hope you’ll take a moment to watch the sunset and wander through the gardens and grounds — experiencing the natural wonders of the place we are so fortunate to call home. Once again, our Artistic Director, Linda Fortunato, and Managing Director, Brian Kelsey, have joined creative forces to bring us another exceptional season. With a mix of laughter, tears, suspense, music, and courtship, there is truly something for everyone. I’m looking forward to every moment! As we begin to set our sights on a not-so-distant centennial celebration, know that our staff and board are working diligently to preserve and enhance the tradition we all have cherished for generations. Welcome to Peninsula Players Theatre’s 90th season! Ninety years is an enormous milestone for a theatre company. Many things have happened over these years. - We have welcomed hundreds of thousands of patrons to share in the experience that is Peninsula Players Theatre. Many of you have been attending for years and are possibly even carrying on the tradition of family who can trace back decades of attending. Some of you may be here for the very first time. We enthusiastically welcome you to enjoy the full experience. We invite you to explore the grounds, savor the sunset, enjoy a refreshment, and engage in fellowship with the community of audience and company – all of which combine into the unique, full experience of Peninsula Players Theatre. - We have collaborated with thousands of company members. Every company member plays a meaningful role in creating the experience. Some have been with us for only one season, while others have returned again and again. This year we have a wonderful mix of new and returning Players, and we proudly welcome back several former interns into staff positions. - We have been buoyed by the support of our community. The contributions of volunteers, donors, board members, advisory council, sponsors, and friends have been essential to the success and longevity of the organization. - And we have produced hundreds of plays. This year we add five more productions to our history. Three are being undertaken for the first time, and two of the plays have graced our stage before – Barefoot in the Park in 1967 and Steel Magnolias in 1989. While the shows span a variety of genres and subjects, they all somehow examine a common question: What happens when things do not go as planned? How do we deal with the big and small surprises that happen every day? Perhaps one finds themself hilariously out of their comfort zone or dangerously in peril or dealing with an unforeseen setback. When life doesn’t meet our expectations, how do we cope? Thinking of expectations brings to mind our founders. When sister and brother, Caroline and Richard Fisher, pursued their passion and founded the Theatre in 1935, did they expect we would all still be here experiencing the beauty of the grounds, sharing a laugh or a tear, or engaging together in rich stories? Did they imagine that 90 years later we would gather to celebrate what they began? It is a gift to carry on the legacy and tradition of our beloved Theatre, and our greatest goal is to be good stewards and keep it healthy and thriving for another 90 years and beyond. Peninsula Players Theatre Mission Statement Peninsula Players Theatre is committed to preserving America’s Oldest Professional Resident Summer Theatre in its unique setting on 16 forested acres along the shores of Green Bay. The Theatre’s mission is to support, without reservation, the most exciting theatre company possible; to preserve the Theatre in a Garden’s natural beauty; to provide artists the freedom, tools, and facilities they require to entertain, uplift, and inform our audiences; to foster future generations of theatre professionals through the internship program; and to maintain fiscal policies that insure the future security of the Theatre.

Values of Peninsula Players Theatre We strive for excellence in all we do – endeavoring to present our patrons with the highest quality professional theatre while ensuring their visit is as welcoming and positive as possible. Recognition of Prior Stewardship Peninsula Players Theatre would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather was nurtured for thousands of years before our residence in 1937. These peoples include the former Wildwood Camp for Boys, the Potawatomi Nation and other influential peoples/nations, including the Huron, Menominee, Ojibwe, Ottawa, Petun, Sauk and the Winnebago (or Ho-Chunk).

BRIAN KELSEY Managing Director Celebrating his 18th season as Managing Director of Peninsula Players Theatre, Brian reflects on his extensive professional journey, which has taken him through various sectors across the United States and Europe. With expertise spanning operations, finance, marketing and public relations, Brian serves as a versatile leader within the organization. Brian’s dedication goes beyond his role at Peninsula Players Theatre. He previously held the position of president at the Peninsula Arts and Humanities Alliance and currently contributes as a member of the Marketing Committee of the Women’s Fund of Door County. Moreover, he currently chairs the Wisconsin Arts Board and actively participates in state-level tourism initiatives, currently serving on the Joint Effort Marketing Grant Committee. His contributions play a vital role in advancing cultural and tourism endeavors statewide. As a journalism graduate from Marquette University, Brian takes pride in sharing his business acumen with his community, particularly acknowledging Peninsula Players Theatre for igniting his passion for the arts during his childhood. Brian’s tenure epitomizes a harmonious blend of professional expertise, community engagement, and personal fulfillment. His unwavering dedication is evident in his efforts to enhance both the arts and tourism within his community and across the state.
Helpful Hints Restrooms. Restrooms are located north of the theater near the lower parking lot. As you exit the audience pavilion on the Beer Garden side, follow the footpath past the Canteen to the next building beyond. Follow the “star lights” for your respite. Re-entry during a performance. If you must leave during the performance, please do so quietly through the nearest open house door. Re-entry, while the performance is in progress, is at the discretion of the House Manager. Children. In general, we suggest ages eight and over attend due to attention span. One or more of our shows have adult themes that may be inappropriate for young children. At Peninsula Players Theatre, we generally follow the ‘school-age and up’ rule. Everyone attending must purchase a seat. Babes in arms will not be allowed in the theater. For further information regarding the age-appropriateness of any of our shows, please contact the Box Office at (920) 868-3287 or visit the play pages at www. peninsulaplayers.com. To purchase tickets for wheelchair or limited mobility seating, please phone our Box Office at (920) 868-3287. We are better able to handle special needs in person or over the phone. Induction Loop Technology is available to guests with hearing devices containing a telecoil (T-Coil) on the theater’s main floor, rows A through S. The loop will transmit sound directly to your hearing aid or cochlear implant while you are in the “loop.” Assisted listening devices are available at the Canteen for the hearing impaired. A driver’s license or credit card is requested as a security deposit to use these devices. Balcony Guests – If you are seated in the balcony, visit the Canteen for an assisted listening device. The balcony does not have hearing loop technology. 8
LINDA FORTUNATO Artistic Director Director – Barefoot in the Park This is Linda’s fourth season as the artistic director of Peninsula Players Theatre, where her 21 seasons include directing The Angel Next Door, Dames at Sea, A Rock Sails By, The Rainmaker, Ghost the Musical, Lend Me a Tenor, And Then There Were None; choreographing Chicago, Cabaret; and acting in Talley’s Folly, The Importance of Being Earnest, Wait Until Dark, Noises Off, The Woman in Black. She was previously the artistic director of Theatre at the Center in Munster, Indiana, where her directing credits included Cabaret, Big River, The Tin Woman, and Steel Magnolias. Linda is a two-time Joseph Jefferson Award winner, and credits also include directing and choreographing White Christmas at Marriott Theatre, work with Drury Lane Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Writers Theatre, Timeline Theatre, BoHo Theatre, Fulton Theatre, American Players Theatre, and teaching at Loyola University and Columbia College Chicago. Next spring Linda will direct The Angel Next Door at Northlight Theatre.

The Luna Bar and Canteen offer a variety of beverages, from refreshing sodas to bottles of water, beers, wines or mixed drinks. We do not allow grilling, and Wisconsin state statute prohibits the carry-in of alcohol. We kindly ask that you honor the Theatre’s environmental values and the Door County Pledge to leave no trace, by taking any picnic waste with you and to dispose of trash responsibly. Actor – Barefoot in the Park, Misery, Steel Magnolias This is Karen’s 10th season at Peninsula Players Theatre. She was last seen on Broadway in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as Prof. McGonagall and Prof. Umbridge. Chicago work includes shows with Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Goodman Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, TimeLine Theatre and Writers Theatre. Television credits include “Chicago PD,” “Patriot” and “Proven Innocent.” Her films include “Girl on the Third Floor” and “American Fable” and she is in the upcoming mini-series “The Artist” with Janet McTeer, Mandy Patinkin and Patti LuPone.

In Memory Of Ted Bird Company and Board Member 1948-2024 Before founding Bird Bonette Staudersman, Advertising Production Consultants, Ted was a Peninsula Players Theatre apprentice. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1948, he rode the bus across the country to the corner of Highway 42 and Peninsula Players Road and quickly became a jack-of-all-trades, working in lighting design, carpentry and stage management. His backstage savvy, leadership, and ability to fix anything opened the door to his television career when he became studio manager for WOR-TV (NBC) in New York. His time behind the camera led Ted to become an industry leader and authority on TV commercial talent management and compensation. His advertising career began with J. Walter Thompson, where he developed the innovative Television Workshop and later served as Broadcast Business Manager of the Ford group, and it continued with McCann-Erickson, Inc. and Doyle Dane Bernbach. He supervised celebrity talent negotiations, was responsible for TV production estimating, broadcast traffic, talent payment, and the in-house audio-visual operations at the agency. He has served as Vice Chairman of the American Association of Advertising Agencies’ Broadcast Administration Policy Committee and Chairman of its Subcommittee on Commercial Production. He was a management trustee on the Screen Actors Guild-Producers Pension & Health Funds and the Motion Picture Players Welfare. Ted served on the Theatre’s board of directors from 1993-2011. In Memory Of Jerry L. Zaug Company and Board Member 1994-2024 A Wisconsin native, Jerry grew up in New London and earned his bachelor’s degree and MBA from the University of Chicago. He married his sweetheart, Joan Braeger, in Appleton, and they shared 62 years together. Jerry joined Zaug’s Vending & Food Service, founded by his father in 1938. Under Jerry’s leadership, Zaug’s secured the exclusive rights to provide food and beverages at the annual EAA Air Shows in Oshkosh. Jerry became company president in 1971, promising “Everything from soup to nuts at the drop of a coin.” Beyond business, Jerry loved traveling with his family, playing golf on the Peninsula State Park’s course, and was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of the Appleton Downtown Rotary Club, served as president and director of the Wisconsin Innkeepers Association, and was the first vice-chair of the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA). After settling in Door County in 1989, he and his family opened the Country House Resort in Sister Bay. Not long after their move, he joined Peninsula Players Theatre’s board of directors and served as treasurer for many years. He also served as treasurer on the boards of Destination Door County and the Door County Housing Partnership, Inc. Jerry said he got an early start as a treasurer, sharing his baby buggy with coins his mom brought home for the family business. He leaves behind Joan, their children Cheryl and Warren, and three grandchildren. Once a Player, Always a Player.

DANIELLE SZMANDA Development Director Danielle is thrilled to be celebrating her 15th season with Peninsula Players Theatre. She joined the company in 2011 as an administrative intern, returned in 2012 as the assistant box office manager and joined the full-time team in 2013. Prior to her fulltime position, Danielle spent her early career in Chicago working in both administrative and production positions at various theaters throughout the city. She is a native of the Chicagoland area and an alum of St. Norbert College where she earned her BA in theatre studies and business administration. Danielle is excited for another year of raising funds for this beloved theater!

BECCA STOCKHAUS Production Manager Becca is eager to return to Peninsula Players Theatre for her sixth season after starting as an intern and working in the scene shop for the last five years. She holds a BFA in technical theatre from the University of Minnesota Duluth. During her time in Knoxville, Tennessee, Becca has worked as a scenic/props carpenter for the Clarence Brown Theatre, working on productions such as The Giver, Kinky Boots, Inherit the Wind and The Play That Goes Wrong. This is her first season as production manager, and she looks forward to another beautiful summer down by the bay.

CASSIE SLATER Actor – Little Women The Broadway Musical, Steel Magnolias Peninsula Players Theatre credits: Cabaret, Little Shop of Horrors, A Little Night Music, Nunsense and Sunday in the Park with George. Cassie is a Joseph Jefferson Awardwinning actress (Mary in Merrily We Roll Along) and originated the role of Lauren in See Rock City and Other Destinations at William Finn’s Music Theatre Lab at Barrington Stage Company. Her original play with music, How to Lobster, appeared at Steppenwolf Theatre Company as part of their Lookout Series in the spring of 2023. Cassie created the early childhood music and creative play program, Stomp and Shout Chicago, and for the past 12 years has brought music and theatre to the early childhood set in Chicago and beyond. Most importantly, she is mom to sweet Winona.

ORA JONES Actor – Steel Magnolias Ora made her Peninsula Players Theatre debut in the 2019 production of George Washington’s Teeth and portrayed playwright Charlotte Sanders in last season’s The Angel Next Door. Her most recent Chicago stage role was Dotty Otley in Noises Off, at Steppenwolf Theater Company, where she is an ensemble member, and at Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. She has performed at Goodman Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, TimeLine Theatre, Writers Theatre, and Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, among others. Her Broadway roles include Madame de Volanges in Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Mrs. Phelps in Matilda the Musical, both for Broadway and the first national tour. The Play’s the Thing Winter Playing Reading Series The Play’s the Thing is part of our community outreach programming, presenting free professional play readings for the public on the first Mondays of February, March and April. The 2025 readings were directed by Artistic Director Linda Fortunato and performed at Björklunden in Baileys Harbor. We opened our 15th year of the three-part play series on February 3 with Of Serpents & Sea Spray by Rachel Bublitz, in coordination with Door County Reads’ exploration of “The House in the Cerulean Sea” by TJ Klune. Actors Julia Limoncelli, Liz Norton and Michaela Shapiro made their Peninsula Players Theatre debuts and were joined by alumni Eva Nimmer, Andrew Mueller and Door County resident Mark Moede.

The Play’s the Thing continued on March 3, with Do You Turn Somersaults? by Aleksei Arbuzov, translated by Ariadne Nicolaeff. The reading featured long-time Players Cindy Gold and Greg Vinkler. The final reading of the series on April 7 featured A Body of Water by Lee Blessing. Alumni actors Cassandra Bissell and Neil Brookshire were joined by Adelina Marinello, who made her Peninsula Players Theatre debut. The Play’s the Thing continues to bring people together and maintain a human connection over the winter months in Door County. This winter program is funded in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as generous grants from the Friends of Door County Libraries, Green Bay Packers Foundation, The Shubert Foundation and operating funds of Peninsula Players Theatre. Thank you to the amazing staff at Björklunden for their hospitality and for hosting this series year after year! We are grateful for their generous spirit, thoughtful collaboration and dedication to the arts. AMIE ROOT Fight and Intimacy Director – Misery Amie is a multifaceted artist. She is a director, playwright, actor, fight director, and a certified teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors. She has toured the country teaching and fight directing for the last 15 years and was the fight director for Twelfth Night and The Heart of Robin Hood (Door Shakespeare), Hamlet and Henry IV Part I (Utah Shakespeare Festival), She Kills Monsters (University of Southern Mississpppi), five seasons with Unto These Hills (Cherokee, North Carolina) and others. JACOB REYNOLDS Technical Director Jacob joins Peninsula Players Theatre for his first season from Sapulpa, Oklahoma. He has a BA in technical theatre and recently earned a MFA in technical direction from the University of Houston. He was also the technical director at Peterborough Players in New Hampshire, which performed Noises Off, Deathtrap, Pride & Prejudice, Ben Butler and Man of La Mancha for their 2024 season. Jacob worked for various theatre companies and Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. music venues in Houston and with various music festivals in Texas. He looks forward to working in Door County this season and hopes you enjoy the show!

Internship Program, Est. 1935 These company members are an integral part of our Theatre, and they deserve a huge standing ovation. Peninsula Players Theatre’s internship program is part of a tradition that runs as deep as the Theatre’s roots. Since the Theatre launched its first season in 1935, interns, then called apprentices, have been given the opportunity to work side-by-side with professionals, learning the craft by participating in and observing the process. Participants spend 14 to 20 weeks working alongside the Theatre’s professional actors, designers, managers and technicians. They witness all facets of theatre in action, from backstage to the front office, creating a constant path of growth throughout the season, thus making our program unique among theatre programs. You may see them directing traffic, greeting patrons at the Canteen or Box Office, shifting scenery, delivering posters, selling tickets, or operating the sound board during the shows. During the day, they assist in building the shows and selling tickets for the following shows. Peninsula Players Theatre has always provided its interns with a weekly stipend and provided free room and board. The Kathryn A. Doerr Intern Fund Established in 2013 in memory of Kathryn A. Doerr (Katie), by her family, this fund provides critical support for Peninsula Players Theatre’s intern program. Her legacy will provide a scholarship for Elizabeth Elliott during the Theatre’s season this year. NEIL SIMON American author, playwright and screenwriter Neil Simon (1927-2018) is widely regarded as one of the most successful, prolific and performed playwrights in theatre history. He started writing for radio and television with his brother, Danny, and worked alongside Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks on Sid Caesar's “Your Show of Shows” and “Caesar Hour.” He wrote more than 30 plays during his Photo by Martha career, the first of which was Come Swope, courtesy of Blow Your Horn in 1961. Meet the Playwright ... WILLIAM GOLDMAN Playwright - Misery William Goldman (1931-2018) was an award-winning novelist, playwright, author and screenwriter born in Chicago. He graduated from Oberlin College in Ohio, was drafted into the Army during the Korean War, and used the GI Bill to earn a MA from New York’s Columbia University in 1956. He co-wrote the plays Blood, Sweat, and Stanley Poole and A Family Affair with his brother and fellow writer, James. The brothers shared an apartment with John Kander, who went on to compose more than a dozen musicals, including Cabaret and Chicago. All three eventually earned Academy Awards. As a novelist, Goldman penned several American classics, including “Soldier in the Rain” (1960), “Father’s Day” (1971), “Magic” (1976), “The Color of Light” (1984), and “The Silent Gondoliers” (1984). In 1969, he earned the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, the Writers Guild Award, and British Academy Award, for the film “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and another Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and a Writers Guild Award in 1976 for “All the President’s Men.” His other screenwriting credits include “Masquerade,” “Harper,” “The Stepford Wives,” “The Princess Bride” (based on his novel of the same name), “Last Action Hero,” “The General’s Daughter,” “Marathon Man” (based on his thriller novel of the same name), and many others. His other awards include two Edgar Awards from the Mystery Writers of America, Best Motion Picture Screenplay for “Harper” and “Magic” (adapted from his novel), and the Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement from the Writers Guild of America. Goldman wrote the screenplay of the film “Misery.”
STEPHEN KING Author – Misery Stephen King was born in Portland, Maine, in 1947, the second son of Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. He sold his first professional short story in 1967 to Startling Mystery Stories. In the fall of 1971, King began teaching high school English classes at Hampden Academy, the public high school in Hampden, Maine. Writing in the evenings and on the weekends, he continued to produce short stories and work on novels. In the spring of 1973, Doubleday & Co. accepted the novel “Carrie” for publication, allowing him to leave teaching and write full-time. Since then, King has published more than 50 books and has become one of the world’s most successful writers. King received the 2003 National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to the American Letters and the 2014 National Medal of Arts. Stephen lives in Maine and Florida with his wife, novelist Tabitha King. They are regular contributors to several charities, including many libraries, and have been honored locally for their philanthropic activities.
ERIC WATKINS Lighting Designer – Misery Eric is a lighting designer based in Chicago, and in the last decade has lit shows for many of the most prominent theatres there, including Chicago Shakespeare Theater, TimeLine Theatre Company, Northlight Theatre, Raven Theatre, Rivendell Theatre Ensemble and Steep Theatre, among many, many others. Eric also works across the country in both regional theatre and grand opera. LOUISA MAY ALCOTT Author (1832-1888) – "Little Women" Louisa May Alcott was an American novelist, short story writer, poet, suffragist and abolitionist. Born into a transcendentalist family, she grew up in Boston surrounded by influential thinkers such as the fiery Reverend Theodore Parker, Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson. After the failure of Fruitlands, the utopian community founded by her father, Bronson, Louisa took it upon herself to support her family by writing sensational stories under pseudonyms like A.M. Barnard, Flora Fairfield and Tribulation Periwinkle. During the American Civil War, she was a nurse Louisa May Alcott, c. 1870 – Warren’s Portraits, Boston. and contracted mercury poisoning. Though she recovered at home, her health remained fragile for the rest of her life. However, her wartime experiences led to her first literary success, “Hospital Sketches,” a collection of vivid and poignant letters detailing the harsh realities of battlefield medicine. Her stories began to appear in The Atlantic Monthly, and in 1868, her publisher asked her to write “a girl’s story.” Louisa’s childhood memories were the basis for the March family. Her realistic portrayal of sisterhood and female friendships remains endearing to readers of all ages who grapple with their aspirations and identities.

STEPHEN SCHELLHARDT Director – Little Women The Broadway Musical Stephen (he/him) is a Joseph Jefferson Award-winning director, actor and theatre educator living in Chicago. Recent directing credits include The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Paramount Theatre); Fun Home and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (Porchlight Music Theatre); The Play That Goes Wrong, The Wizard of Oz, Footloose (Barter Theatre); Queer Eye: The Musical Parody (The Second City Chicago); Big Fish ( Joseph Jefferson Award – Best Director); Urinetown and Dogfight at BoHo Theatre where he served as company member and artistic director for several years. JOE COURT Sound Designer – Little Women The Broadway Musical Joe has spent the last 24 years working professionally as a sound designer, engineer and educator. His work has been heard in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, McCarter Theatre Center, Clarence Brown Theatre, Great Lakes Theater, Virginia Stage Company, Actors Theatre of Indiana, and the Idaho, Lake Tahoe and Illinois Shakespeare Festivals. As an educator, he has taught at Virginia Tech, the University of Chicago and Ball State University. Joe is an artistic associate with TUTA Theatre, Chicago. From 2008 until 2016, Joe served as sound engineer for the Chicago production of the Tony Award-winning musical Million Dollar Quartet. He has received three Joseph Jefferson Award nominations for his design work. Member, USA 829.

KÄRIN SIMONSON KOPISCHKE Costume Designer – Little Women The Broadway Musical, Steel Magnolias Kärin is a proud union member, a Lawrence University professor and a sustainable clothing creator. Kärin celebrates the 30th anniversary of her first design for Peninsula Players Theatre. She designs costumes at top professional theaters and operas nationwide, including American Conservatory Theater, Long Wharf Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Minnesota Opera, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Boston Lyric Opera, Goodman Theatre, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Third Avenue PlayWorks and Skylight Music Theater. Kärin was recently honored by the Wisconsin Arts Board in their 50 Artists for 50 Years anniversary celebration. Kärin has won Chicago’s Joseph Jefferson Award and the ariZoni. She was nominated for the Prague Quadrennial and won Nordstrom’s Project N: The Fashion Challenge for her upcycled designs found on Etsy in her Gothic Flower shop. ALLAN KNEE Book – Little Women The Broadway Musical Allan Knee is a playwright and screenwriter who wrote the play The Man Who Was Peter Pan, which was the basis for the Oscar-nominated film “Finding Neverland,” starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet, and the subsequent musical Finding Neverland. His work on Little Women earned him a Richard Rodgers Musical Theatre Award. Knee also wrote the book for The Astonishing Times of Timothy Cratchit (music by Andre Catrini). His other works include a four-part adaptation of “The Scarlet Letter” for PBS, Syncopation, a dance drama about the passion of two workers to become ballroom champions in 1914, and The Jazz Age, an exploration into the lives of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Zelda Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. For young audiences, he adapted Around the World in 80 Days. He is a Yale School of Drama graduate and a founding member of the WorkShop Theater Company.
JASON HOWLAND Music - Little Women The Broadway Musical Jason Howland is a musical theatre composer, playwright, music director, producer, and conductor who has served as a guest conductor for renowned orchestras nationwide and several Broadway musicals, including Taboo, Jekyll & Hyde, Les Misérables, The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Civil War, Spiderman and Bonnie and Clyde. He earned a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album for his work as the arranger and music supervisor of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical. Howland earned an Emmy Award in 2007 for creating and composing the “Handel’s Messiah Rocks” Christmas special for the Boston Pops. He wrote the music for The Great Gatsby with Nathan Tysen and produced and orchestrated the Tony Awardwinning Shucked. He is an honors graduate of Williams College.
MINDI DICKSTEIN Lyrics - Little Women The Broadway Musical Mindi Dickstein is an award-winning lyricist, librettist and playwright. She is the lyricist for Benny and Joon, wrote the book for Toy Story: The Musical, and co-wrote lyrics with composer Carmel Dean for the musical Witnesses. Based on the diaries of teens written during the Holocaust, Witnesses was voted Outstanding New Production of 2022 by the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle. Other works include Trip (book and lyrics), Starving to Death in Midtown (a short play), and Beasts and Saints (book and lyrics). Her work was part of Lincoln Center’s American Songbook (“Hear and Now: Contemporary Lyricists”), and her awards include the ASCAP Workshop Bernice Cohen Award, the Second Stage Constance Klinsky Award, and a PEN International New Playwright Award (selected by Wendy Wasserstein).

VALERIE MAZE Music Director/Conductor – Little Women The Broadway Musical Valerie is excited to return to Peninsula Players Theatre for her ninth season! Select productions include Ghost The Musical and The Drowsy Chaperone. Valerie was most recently the associate music director for SIX the Musical on Broadway and served as the music director/conductor for the First National Tour. At Lyric Opera of Chicago, she served as assistant conductor on 42nd Street, My Fair Lady, The King and I, Carousel, The Sound of Music, Oklahoma! and Showboat. Select music director and conductor credits include Drury Lane Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Writers Theatre (A Little Night Music, Joseph Jefferson Award nomination), Theatre at the Center (Cats, After Dark Award), Music Theater Works and The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.
KYLE PINGEL-HICKEY Wig Designer – Little Women The Broadway Musical, Steel Magnolias Kyle is overjoyed to return to his home by the bay for his 11th season with Peninsula Players Theatre. Kyle began his journey with the Theatre as an intern in 2007 and served as costume shop manager from 2013 to 2022. This season, he returns to style some fabulous wigs! A University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) alum (’12), Kyle is a theatrical wig designer and stylist with over a decade of experience creating custom looks for the stage. As a wig stylist, he specializes in crafting wigs that elevate character and performance, with a particular flair for drag and period styling. His work has been seen regionally and nationally, with credits including Peninsula Players Theatre, Lawrence University, UWGB, Waterfront Playhouse, Royal Caribbean, Goodman Theatre, Marriott Theatre and Paramount Theatre.
ELIZABETH STENHOLT Actor – Little Women The Broadway Musical Elizabeth is astonished to be making her Peninsula Players Theatre debut as the iconic Jo March! Elizabeth is a recent Joseph Jefferson Award winner for her role as Medium Alison in Fun Home at Paramount Theatre. PATRICK MICHAEL TIERNEY Actor – Little Women The Broadway Musical Patrick is thrilled to be making his Peninsula Players Theatre debut. He is a longtime Chicago theatre artist, born and raised on the city’s Southwest Side. His previous acting credits include You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Marriott Theatre), South Pacific, Oliver! (Drury Lane Theatre), Cabaret, Spamalot, All Shook Up, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Theatre at the Center), and Les Misérables (Paramount Theatre). Patrick is also the creator and host of Chicago Artist Circle, a podcast celebrating Chicago theatre. He is represented by DDO Artists Agency.

CHARLOTTE BOGDA Musician – Little Women The Broadway Musical Charlotte and her husband, Dan, have been residents of Ellison Bay for five years. Prior to moving to Door County, they resided in the western suburbs of Chicago for most of their lives. Charlotte enjoyed more than 40 years teaching orchestra to students grades 2-12. She also enjoyed a full performing career, playing everything from classical, strolling and disco music in such venues as concert halls, churches, hotels and country clubs in Chicago and beyond. Charlotte is a member of the Green Bay Civic Symphony and the Door County Folk Alliance.
PAMELA KRAASE Musician – Little Women The Broadway Musical Pamela is a woodwind musician specializing in the flute, piccolo, tin whistle and single reed instruments. She has performed in northeast Wisconsin for over 20 years with many different groups, including the Schnapps und Tanz Oktoberfest Band and the Newtonburg Brass Band as their lead flutist and piccoloist. Pamela is a founding member of the Swingin’ Door Big Band. Her pit orchestra work includes playing with Peninsula Players Theatre’s productions of Nunsense, Into the Woods and A Little Night Music; Isadoora Theatre Company’s She Loves Me; and support for Sevastopol School’s runs of Cinderella, Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang and James and the Giant Peach.
KENT MORAGA Musician – Little Women The Broadway Musical Kent has been playing the horn for more than 50 years. He is a Wisconsin native who returned to the state in 2016, resettling in Door County, where he is actively involved in several musical groups, in theatre, both on stage and in the orchestra pit. His pit performances in Door County include Les Misérables, Cinderella, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and James and the Giant Peach. In addition to the horn, Kent has also played trumpet, flugelhorn and various percussion oddities while in the pit. His other musical experiences include orchestra, concert bands, dance bands, chamber groups and solo work.
BRUCE NEWBERN Musician – Little Women The Broadway Musical Bruce is happy to be spending the summer at Peninsula Players Theatre. He has previously been on the theater’s stage accompanying the sailors in Dames at Sea, the hijinks of pirates in Peter and the Starcatcher, as a drumming priest in Nunsense and in the Bobcat Band in Always…Patsy Cline. Bruce has spent other summers playing in the park with Northern Sky Theater. He lives in Sturgeon Bay with his wife Karen and enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren. In his spare time, Bruce stays busy composing and playing with area musicians throughout the county as well as directing the musical ensemble at Bay View Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay.

GEORGIA FRIED Costume Designer – Ken Ludwig’s Dear Jack, Dear Louise Costume Shop Supervisor This is Georgia’s second summer as the costume shop supervisor at Peninsula Players Theatre. She graduated from Ohio University in 2024 with an MFA in costume and scenic design. Her BA is from Salisbury University. She is originally from the eastern shore of Maryland. One day she hopes to make costumes for burlesque full time (besides working at Peninsula Players Theatre every summer, of course.)

Meet the Playwright ... KEN LUDWIG Playwright - Dear Jack, Dear Louise Ken Ludwig has had six shows on Broadway, seven in London’s West End, and many of his works have become a standard part of the American repertoire. His 32 plays and musicals have been performed in over 30 countries, in more than 20 languages, and are produced throughout the United States every night of the year. Lend Me a Tenor won two Tony Awards and was called “one of the classic comedies of the 20th century” by The Washington Post. Crazy For You was on Broadway for five years and won the Tony and Olivier Awards for Best Musical. He wrote Murder on the Orient Express for the stage expressly at the request of the Agatha Christie Estate, which had its European premiere at the Chichester Festival Theatre in June of 2022. Dear Jack, Dear Louise, won the 2020 Charles MacArthur Award for Best New Play of the Year. His other works include Lend Me A Soprano, Moriarty, Pride and Prejudice, Part 2: Napoleon at Pemberley and Lady Molly of Scotland Yard. Ludwig is a graduate of Harvard and Cambridge. He is a frequent guest speaker for groups as varied as The Oxford-Cambridge Society, The Jane Austen Society of North America, The Folger Shakespeare Library and The Baker Street Irregulars. www.kenludwig.com
HANNAH KWAK Lighting & Sound Supervisor Hannah Kwak (she/her) is a Chicago-based sound engineer and electrician. She is the assistant sound supervisor at Chicago Children’s Theatre and the production assistant for Joe Mazza at brave lux. inc. She served as the sound engineer for the NHSI Cherubs Program in 2024 and freelances as an A1 and A2. This past season, Hannah worked on productions at Writers Theatre, Shattered Globe Theatre, Steep Theatre, and Citadel Theatre. She is an alum of Loyola University Chicago and is overjoyed to be returning to Door County for her second season with Peninsula Players Theatre.

MELANIE KELLER Director – Steel Magnolias Melanie is overjoyed to return to Peninsula Players Theatre where she directed I Ought To Be In Pictures, Trying, Murder for Two and acted in Salvage and A Fox on the Fairway. At First Folio Theatre, she directed Mary’s Wedding, Silent Sky and acted in over 10 productions. As a member of Signal Ensemble, she directed the Joseph Jefferson Award-nominated The Drowning Girls and acted in East of Berlin and The Russian Play (Joseph Jefferson Award Best Actress). At Oak Park Festival, she directed The Amish Project, Much Ado About Nothing and performed as Lady Macbeth. Other directing credits include Illinois Wesleyan University, Northern Illinois University and Montana Shakespeare in the Parks. Additional acting work includes the Stratford Festival of Canada, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Lakeside Shakespeare Theater, Michigan Shakespeare Festival, Goodman Theatre, Northlight Theatre and Waterfront Playhouse of Key West.
MICHAELA LOCHEN Scenic Designer – Steel Magnolias Michaela is a scenic designer from St. Paul, Minnesota. She holds degrees in scenic design and anthropology and a certificate in museum studies from the University of Minnesota Duluth. She just received her MFA in scenic design from the University of Tennessee. Recent credits include The Servant of Two Masters, Log Kya Kahenge, Significant Other (Lyric Arts, Anoka, Minnesota); The Pajama Game, Newsies (Artistry Theater and Visual Arts, Bloomington, Minnesota); It’s a Wonderful Life: a Live Radio Play (River & Rail, Knoxville, Tennessee); The Giver and Inherit the Wind (Clarence Brown Theatre, Knoxville, Tennessee). NOELE STOLLMACK Lighting Designer – Steel Magnolias Noele’s lighting has appeared onstage at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, Verizon Hall, The Library of Congress Theatre, and the opera companies of Santa Fe, Ontario, Houston, Portland, Vancouver, New Orleans, Nashville, Madison and Milwaukee. She supervised the lighting and special effects for over 50 productions as lighting director for Houston Grand Opera, including Andrei Serban’s Elektra, Dr. Jonathan Miller’s Der Rosenkavalier, Aida, and the world premieres of Harvey Milk, Desert of Roses and Dracula Diary. Regional credits include Jeff Daniels’ Purple Rose Theatre Company, Baltimore Center Stage, Houston’s Alley Theatre and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. Meet the Playwright ... ROBERT HARLING Playwright – Steel Magnolias Robert Harling and his family lived in several Southern towns before settling in Natchitoches, Louisiana, when he was 12. Upon graduating from Northwestern University of Louisiana and Tulane Law School, he opted to become an actor in New York City rather than take the bar exam. After years of productive work as an actor in voice-overs and commercials, by Robert Harling Harling was inspired to write A hilarious celebration of friendship, Steel Magnolias, based on heartache and hairdos! events from his family. Since its Off-Broadway debut in 1987, Steel Magnolias has been translated and performed worldwide in over 20 languages and made into a critically acclaimed film shot on location in Natchitoches. His screenwriting credits also include "Soapdish," "First Wives Club" and "Laws of Attraction". He made his directorial debut with "The Evening Star", a sequel to "Terms of Endearment", which he also wrote for the screen based on Larry McMurtry’s novel.
DEVIN MESEKE Scenic Charge Artist Devin Meseke is a Chicago-based scenic painter who just graduated from DePaul University with a BFA in scene design. He has been painting in Chicago for the past three years at several theaters, including DePaul Opera, Mercury Theatre, Albany Park Theater Project and Remy Bumppo Theatre Company. His recent projects have included Sister Act at Skylight Music Theatre, No Such Thing at Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, and Sour Angelica/Gianni Schicchi at DePaul Opera, along with multiple design projects at DePaul University.
CASIE MORELL Stage Manager – Steel Magnolias Casie (she/her) is excited to return to Peninsula Players Theatre, where she has been both an intern and an Equity stage manager. She spent the 2024/2025 season at Drury Lane Theatre working as both a stage manager and an assistant stage manager. A proud Nashville native, Casie has also worked with Chicago theatres such as Marriott Theatre, Lookingglass Theatre Company, TimeLine Theatre Company, Mercury Theater Chicago, 16th Street Theater, Chicago Children’s Theatre, First Folio Theatre, Theatre at the Center, Porchlight Music Theatre, Music Theater Works and Northwestern Opera Theatre. ANNI & DEB LAMPERT Cook & Head Chef Once upon a time, Mrs. Lampert had a beautiful daughter, then another (then another, but that’s a story for another day). One decided she was the queen, and the other decided to be a princess. Now they run our kitchen and feed us all summer. God save the queen and the princess, too. You may know them as Deb Lampert and Anni Lampert. They live in a small castle in Sturgeon Bay, where they exercise active imaginations but rarely caution.
GINNY SOWINSKI Cook Ginny is thrilled to join Peninsula Players this season, armed with her signature warmth, energy, fun, a love for the arts, and an impressive collection of aprons. Raised in the restaurant biz, and her background in music, theatre and dance, she’s basically been rehearsing for this post her whole life! After a long, successful career in nonprofit fundraising and event planning, she’s circled home to her new role: crew chef and behind-the-scenes cheerleader helping whip up delicious meals for hardworking actors and theatre crew, proving food really is a love language. Ginny resides in Fish Creek with her husband, Paul, and is delighted to give back to the arts community she adores one delicious dish at a time.
ERIC SMITH Landscape Design/Grounds Manager Eric returned to Door County ten years ago to establish himself as an artist and pursue his talented career in Landscape Design. He brings to the theater more than 20 years of experience in design and landscaping, having worked for companies such as Leids Nursery and David J. Frank Landscaping. He served as grounds manager for Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls and as a computer graphics art designer at Flexcraft, Inc. in Wisconsin. Eric’s special talents for landscape painting, photography and his love for the outdoors add to his ability to create the beautiful gardens that are displayed throughout the property of Peninsula Players Theatre. Truly a work of art in the making!

KATHARINE BAUMANN Box Office Manager Katharine is thrilled to have joined the year-round staff for Peninsula Players Theatre! She served as the assistant box office manager in 2023 and the seasonal box office manager in 2024. Katharine enjoys working in many theatrical disciplines, with a recent credit being the production assistant, carpenter and run crew cover for Illinoise at Chicago Shakespeare Theater. They directed Stop Kiss and assistant directed Spring Awakening for Pipe Dreams Studio Theatre before graduating from Millikin University with a BS in biology, BA in theatre, and a music minor. Katharine continues her passion for science by assisting in research and attending events at The Ridges Sanctuary and the Door Peninsula Astronomical Society.
ALEX PIO Prop Shop Supervisor Alex Pio is a properties artisan originally from the central Wisconsin area. She has the honor to hold an MFA in production design and technology from Ohio University, where she worked as a scenic designer and in properties and paint shops. She has spent her career working with theatrical companies such as Santa Fe Opera, Opera North and the Scranton Shakespeare Festival in a variety of roles. She has also stepped into the world of themed entertainment, working as a scenic artist for The Escape Game. Alex is excited to spend her first season with Peninsula Players Theatre as the properties shop supervisor.

SCOUT CARTER Assistant Box Office Manager Scout recently graduated from Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Science in theatre administration and a minor in business analytics. Scout was the box office manager and a teaching assistant for his major at Ithaca College. He was also a development intern at The Metropolitan Opera and a production assistant for the world premiere of Figaro: An Original Musical in London’s West End. Scout has also worked at Spoleto Festival USA and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This is Scout’s first season with Peninsula Players Theatre, and he can’t wait to spend the summer in beautiful Fish Creek!
MICHAEL MITCHELL Lead Carpenter Michael is a Maryland native returning for his third season with Peninsula Players Theatre. His theatrical journey began in the third grade when his parents suggested he join the school drama club, as he was “dramatic.” When not with Peninsula Players Theatre, Michael serves as the scene shop supervisor for Salisbury University’s Bobbi Biron Theatre Program, where he received his bachelor’s degree in theatre.

Peninsula Players Theatre Scholarship Peninsula Players Theatre is pleased to announce its 2025 Peninsula Players Theatre Scholarship recipients. The Theatre and its Board of Directors created this annual award to foster the career path and arts education of graduating high school seniors across Door County. A $1,000 scholarship was available to one student at each of the five Door County high schools for a total of $5,000. Eligible applicants must plan to enroll as a full-time college student with a major or minor in arts management, music (performance or education), or theatre (acting, theatre studies, theatre technology and design).
Congratulations, Ellie Engerson, Caleb Johnson and Benedict Salmi-Klotz! The 2025 scholarship recipients are Ellie Engerson, Caleb Johnson and Benedict Salmi-Klotz. These students demonstrated a high level of participation and creativity in the arts during their academic careers. Ellie is a graduate of Southern Door High School with a passion for singing. She intends to pursue a degree in music education with a choral emphasis at Northern Michigan University. Ellie has participated in a variety of performing arts during her time at Southern Door, including the annual musical, show choir, forensics and dance team. Ellie’s dream is to become a middle or high school choir director. Caleb is a graduate of Sevastopol High School, where he has honed his craft in music. Caleb has participated in concert band, pep band, jazz band, choir and solo ensemble. He also had the honor of performing with the Bay Area Music Association's
honors band and honors choir for multiple years. He plans to attend the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh to pursue a Bachelor of Music in music composition. His dream is to become a composer, writing music for bands, symphonies and other ensembles. Benedict is a local homeschooled student with a passion for the arts. He has immersed himself in Gibraltar High School’s theatre department, participating in six productions in a variety of roles, including lead actor, stage manager, choreographer, set designer and student director. Benedict intends to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in drama at Queen Margaret University in Scotland. He then hopes to pursue an advanced degree in theatre direction or arts administration so that he may ultimately land in his dream career of becoming a theatre director and playwright.

EAMON MORIARTY Carpenter Hailing from Dearborn Heights, Michigan, Eamon recently graduated from the BFA theatre design program at Michigan State University. He is happy to return to Peninsula Players Theatre, where he was a production intern in the 2023 season. Eamon is recently engaged to Charlie, and in the offseason, he works as a literacy tutor in the Lansing area.
CODY DIEDRICH Carpenter Cody recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a BFA in theatrical technology and design. Cody participated in the internship program at Peninsula Players Theatre in 2023 and is excited to return for the 90th season! Most recently, they have been constructing sets for the University of Wisconsin-Madison University Opera and Deforest High School.
KELLYN GAGNER Costume Technician Kellyn is glad to be back for her fifth season at Peninsula Players Theatre. She studied literature and art at Lawrence University but found her home in the costume shop. Recent credits include costume designer for Three Viewings and Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. #2B at Third Avenue PlayWorks. When not in Door County, she works freelance and serves as the costume shop manager for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

DIXIE HUCKABAY Props Artisan Dixie is a props artist and illustrator from Oklahoma City. She has a BFA in graphic design from the University of Oklahoma. She is currently pursuing another BFA in theatre design and production with an emphasis in properties design from Oklahoma City University. Most recently, she has worked as a props artisan at Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma and as a props designer at her university. She is excited to be working her first summer at Peninsula Players Theatre.

Audi earned a BFA in technical theatre, an MA in theatre history/public relations, and certificates in human resources/nonprofit administration from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She was an assistant sales manager at New Theatre Restaurant in Overland Park, Kansas, and business manager of the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville’s theatre department. With a rich background in communications and a heart of storytelling, Audi brings creativity and warmth to the day-to-day operations of the Theatre.

One decided she was the queen, and the other decided to be a princess. Now they run our kitchen and feed us all summer. God save the queen and the princess, too.
