April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month Every hour of every day, oral cancer claims a life. We at Penn Dental Medicine (PDM) want you to know more about this disease, often lesser known than other cancers. Oral cancer’s exact causes are unclear. Heavy alcohol use and any use of tobacco are known risk factors, as is too much sunlight on the lips. Sexually transmitted HPV and a weakened immune system also contribute.
