March was a remarkable month, and I am proud to reflect on the moments that brought our community together It was an honor to host the Welcome Reception for the 2026 City Club Summit, organized by the City of New York Chapter of the Club Management Association of America — an evening that showcased the very best of Penn Club hospitality to club management professionals from across the city Our All-Ivy 50 & Over Netw-

Our culinary team continues to impress. Executive Chef Michael Bourquin has launched a beautiful new Main Dining Room menu this spring, and I encourage every member to come in and experience it Personally, I have been enjoying the Grilled Australian Rack of Lamb, the cauliflower au gratin and black garlic rosemary jus make it an exceptional dish! Member Spotlight: Milind Sharm, Member Since 2022
Q: What motivated you to become a member of The Penn Club?
A: Initially it was due to the post-Covid lull in networking events. The Penn Club nicely filled the social void during those trying times The warmth of the staff (John, Tony, Elizabeth, Nick, Maria) kept me coming back. Sitting at the Grill Room bar I’m often reminded of a scene from Cheers with Tony as the Ted Danson analog.
Q: Can you share a bit about your background and professional journey?
A: Having lived and studied in four countries & visited many more, I like that the Penn Club serves as a crossroads for intellectuals from all over the world. I had the benefit of attending the best boarding schools in Canada & India not to mention Oxford, Vassar & Carnegie Mellon dabbling in Philosophy, Physics, Mathematics & Finance. During the Nasdaq crash, Merrill Lynch footed the bill for my Wharton Exec Ed courses in addition to the many other courses I took at NYU & Princeton as part of my lifelong learning endeavors As part my giving back initiatives, I started New York’s premier society for quants which runs educational events for MFE students I also started lecturing and running Capstone courses for the top quant finance MFE programs. I have now personally mentored well over 150 MFE students over the past 15 years who are now gainfully employed at the top Wall Street firms While my day job (running a quant trading firm after stints at Merrill, Deutsche & RB-
C) pays the bills, my various (pro bono) educational initiatives resulted in a series of publications culminating in the book mentioned below.
Q: Can you highlight a memorable experience or event from your time as a member?
A: Maria & the events team have done a terrific job with organizing events especially the Passport series and the joint Ivy Halloween type celebrations. They’ve also been nice enough to accommodate vegan & zero-proof modifications to the menu. At a Penn Club event in 2024 featuring the latest edition of Kindleberger's classic (“Manias, Panics, and Crashes: A History of Financial Crises”) I found myself sitting behind the legendary investor Howard Marks’. This led me to pen a short section of my forthcoming book on his investment philosophy entitled, “MANIAS, PANICS, AND CRASHES”
Q: Are there any upcoming events or projects you're excited about?
A: Looking forward to my book launch event on April 29 entitled “The Quantamental Revolution” (Wiley). The event will be moderated by a Bloomberg hedge fund reporter Prof Manos Hatzakis (a Wharton phd with extensive experience from Goldman/ Merrill, UBS etc) will provide an independent, academic critique of the book while I will provide an overview of the 13 chapters When the pioneering quant finance program was launched at CMU in 1994, the visionary founders foresaw the Quant takeover of Wall St Well, we are all Quants now! I was fortunate to have a front row seat to “The Quantamental Revolution” starting in the phd program there in 1994 & decided to not only document that arc of evolution but also my particular brand of ML enhanced factor investing In over 500 pgs I show how one goes from taming the factor zoo to smart betas to smarter alphas and market neutral hedge funds Finally, I touch upon the more existential issues confronting humanity in light of the seismic, supersonic, tsunami of disruption coming our way now that we have crossed the event horizon of the Singularity.

Q: Favorite Quote?
A: I’ve long been a fan of Richard III: “A flourish, trumpets! Strike alarum, drums! Let not the heavens hear these tell-tale women rail on the Lord’s anointed ” But why be distressed now that I’m an active member of The Penn Club, a more fitting quote feels like this line from The Comedy of Errors: “Small cheer and great welcome makes a merry feast.”
