GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Dear Members, The cool breezes of fall have been a welcome change from the hot summer. Sailors of the PYC have been enjoying the Sunday Sailing Fellowship together out on the water. The Scavenger Hunt was a huge success with 21 boats taking part. We have the Fleet Committee to thank for this enjoyable outdoor event! October is filled with many club activities to take part in. October 3 will start the month off right with a Bourbon Tasting. We will move right into a Cooking Demo with Chef Andres on October 8. We are bringing Tapas Night back October 22, due to the overwhelming response to the last one held at the Club. I know the members will be thrilled to hear that we are still having the Fleet Committee's two biggest events, the Peninsula Cup Regatta and the Poker Run. The Peninsula Cup will be October 17-18 and the Poker Run will be on October 17. You won’t want to miss all the fun! She is a vital part of our team and has jumped right in to her position. Please learn more about her below. We are thrilled to have her as a part of the PYC team! We continue to keep the safety of our members and their families in the forefront of our minds by wearing masks, and gloves, and by conducting thorough sanitation practices throughout the Club. I would like to take the time to thank my PYC Team for a wonderful season. Everyday, we ask ourselves together as a team, “What is our YES?” that we can provide the members to enjoy in a safe environment. Nikole is originally from Warrenton, Virginia and she graduated from James Madison University. She has been in the Food and Beverage industry for the past six years with her most recent focus being Private Events and Weddings. She and her fiancé moved to Charlotte in the beginning of 2020 and plan to get married in the fall of 2021. They recently got a Golden Retriever puppy named Winston! We are happy to have her as a part of our PYC family!

Spanish Torrijas Recipe Torrijas is Easter Week tradition dessert is Spain, as many of you know. Semana Santa (Easter week) is a big event in Spain and one of the most beautiful weeks of the year. Torrijas are everywhere during that week. Each family has their own way to do it and my mom’s way is the best FOR SURE! Here is an easy recipe that you can follow from www.spanishfoodguide.com PREP TIME 4-8 hrs | COOK TIME 20 minutes Ingredients 1 quart of milk 1 french baguette 3 to 4 eggs scrambled extra virgin olive oil 1 lemon and 1 orange peel 1c. Sugar 1/4c. cinnamon powder 1 cinnamon stick Instructions 1. Cut the bread in slices around 1 inch. I recommended using bread from the previous day or even bread that is two or three days old. If the bread is hard, it can soak up more milk. 2. Cut off a few small pieces of fresh lemon and orange peel. 3. Let the bread soak in milk. Mix the milk with the cinnamon stick and the orange & lemon peel. Afterwards, soak the slices of bread in the milk and let it rest for around four hours. (The longer you soak the bread in the milk the juicier the Torrijas will get.) 4. Dip the bread in the egg. After four hours, take the pieces of bread out of the milk mixture and let them drain for a few minutes. Meanwhile, beat the eggs in a shallow bowl. Then dip the bread slices, with both sides, one by one, in the egg. 5. Deep fry the soaked bread slices. Heat around 1 inch of olive oil in a pan and carefully transfer the soaked bread slices into the oil. I recommend using a spatula and a fork as the bread will be very soft and can break easily. Fry the slices for around two to three minutes on each side until they are brown. 6. Once the bread is done take it out and put it for a few minutes on a paper towel. 7. Mix sugar and cinnamon on a deep plate and dunk the bread slices into it. 8. Enjoy your home-made Spanish Torrijas!

MARINA NEWS WRAPPING UP ANOTHER SEASON Time to Winterize!
We still have some good boating weather left but it is time to start thinking about what to do this winter. • Do I winterize or not? • When? • What do I need to do to be prepared? These are some very common questions that are asked every year. The answer to these questions may vary depending on a number of different things. In this part of the state it is wise to have a plan when it comes to wintertime prep. It is so easy to procrastinate and then before you know it the cold temps have arrived. Have a plan and be ready! THE SAILING SCENE Fall sailing is awesome! I hope everyone remains well and safe. Fall sailing on Lake Norman has now begun following a magnificent summer season. With brisk wind and cooler temperatures, it is ideal for those who want to bury-the-rail or just watch a rainbow. And as always, your PYC Sail Fleet continues to innovate in support of our on water events while always keeping in mind everyone’s safety in these odd times. Our Fall Fellowship Series is now underway and our 1st Social Sail-Power Flotilla behind us – both being tremendously successful. The upcoming 28th Annual Peninsula Cup, our premier annual event, is scheduled for October 17 and 18. We encourage all sailors to register and non-racers/boaters to come out on the Lake to watch our racers and cruisers battle for the coveted Pen Cup winner’s pennant. Coupled with the Poker Run on the same weekend, the PYC and Lake will offer lots of exciting activities! Lastly, given our mild fall and winter (again, I’m from Michigan), we are fortunate that we have a year-round sailing season and are the envy of our northern brethren! COMMODORE'S COMMENTS The Fleet Committee has been commissioned and is moving forward to offer “on the water” events for our members. On October 3rd we will host the first raft up. Boats will tie up in clusters (pods) of five and PYC will have a shuttle that will provide food and drinks to each pod. On October 10, there will be a Droppin' A Hook event featuring the rock group Todd Johnson and The Revolvers. The band will be on my boat, Leisure, and will broadcast its performance over a dedicated FM signal. The following weekend, October 16, 17 & 18, will combine the Poker Run and the Peninsula Cup Regatta. Members can purchase poker hands and play for substantial cash prizes. On October 16, The PYC is offering the always popular Dueling Pianos and dinner. On October 17, the Peninsula Cup Regatta will host the first races of its series and the Poker Run players will collect their cards and play their hands. We will offer an option where those who can’t or don’t want to make the run can still be able to play. Players will then play their cards and cash prizes will be given out for first, second and third best hands. That afternoon will feature an unforgettable magician, comedian, performer and host, Denny Corby. That evening will be the Oyster Roast and a live band.

On Sunday, October 18, the Peninsula Cup Regatta will conclude its races and award the winners. And there will be a Bar-B-Que to close out the weekend. The Fleet Committee hopes you will be able to participate in some of these events.
