GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE We are looking forward to the beautiful weather that March brings our way. It is a great time for getting out on the lake together. We look forward to seeing you at the club. The bathroom renovations will be completed by March 20! A big thank you to Safe Harbor Marinas and Daniel Lambert, our PYC Facilities Manager. The inside of the Club has been painted and the outside is next! We have two new pontoons for our members to rent for a lovely day on the lake. Please contact Harry, our Marina Manager, for the list of services that we have for our Yacht Members. We are here to serve you! This month we have the Saint Patrick’s Chili Cookoff, Champagne and Flower Arranging, Prime Rib Night and the Commodore's Ball. We have many other ways for you to enjoy your Club. Please follow us on Instagram and Facebook. We also send a Thursday Eblast called “Happenings at The Club” as well as our member text program. There are many ways to keep in touch with what is happening at your club. If you would like to rent the firepit, please contact Nikole Taylor. She can be reached at events@peninsulayacht. com. Many of our members have enjoyed Cocktails and S’mores at the firepit as another way to social distance with their friends. There are new securty cameras around the Club & Marina! Additionally, thank you to Safe Harbor Marinas, we have upgraded the Wi-Fi on the docks. If you are a Yacht Member, please don’t forget to come by the club and pick up your SHM Black Card. Congratulations to Daniel for being voted as our Manager of the Quarter. We are very blessed to have Daniel on our PYC Team. He as been with us since September and has quickly made an impact.
Brandon is always willing to help Chef Andres in any station in need. He is a hard worker and very consistent with his work. Brandon has been a part of the PYC team for 11 years and we are lucky to have him!
He has been overseeing our renovations and updating of the Club and he is doing wonderful job.

CHEF'S CORNER
Beer Cheese Soup Serves 8 people This time of year, with the cool weather, this is one of my favorite soups to make with my family at home. INGREDIENTS • 2 lbs diced smoked bacon • 4 celery ribs, diced • 4 small onions, chopped • 8 garlic cloves, sliced • 4 jalepenos, chopped • 4 tsp fresh thyme • 48 oz. beer • 9 cups chicken stock • 4 cups heavy cream • 2 lbs shredded cheddar cheese • 1 lb shredded smoked gouda cheese • salt & black pepper to taste DIRECTIONS 1. Render bacon until crisp and transfer to a bowl and set aside. Do not clean pan. 2. Add celery, onion, jalapeno, garlic and thyme in the same pan you cooked the bacon in. Cook over moderate heat until vegetables are soft and onions are translucent. 3. Add half of beer (24 oz) to deglaze pan and let reduce by half. 4. Add chicken stock and bring to simmer. 5. Add cream and remaining beer. Bring to simmer. 6. Melt cheese into soup, a handful at a time. 7. Let cool for about 5 minutes and then purée soup in a blender. 8. Taste and adjust seasoning; thin with more stock if needed.

The Boating Season is here! Don’t have a boat, no problem! Come out and take advantage of our brand-
new premium rental boats. Both have upgraded features and horsepower and an all new lay-out just for you! Let us help get you on the water! To celebrate the incoming boating season, we continue to offer our “volume rental discounts.” Boating last season was everyone’s way to “social distance” while still enjoying the beauty of the water and being outdoors. Our rentals last year increased considerably so don’t miss out on another great season! Most likely as you rent from us you will likely want to rent more than once! Which is why we will be offering 12 prepaid rentals for a savings of $1,000.
Prepay for 12 full-day boat rentals:
WEEKDAY CLUB | Monday - Thursday $3,200 ($1,000 discount) WEEKEND CLUB | Friday - Sunday $3,800 ($1,000 discount) How? Just call or email the PYC Marina and prepay for 12 rentals. The amount will be charged to your account and a spread sheet will be kept on file and updated when you arrive for your reservation. The amount will be billed in full once registered. Available for 1 year, starting the day you register. Members pay the difference for the holiday rates. Weekday Club members pay difference for weekend rentals. Weekend Club members will not get reduced rate for weekday. If you wish, the difference can be paid for holidays and weekends on the day the boat is rented.

The Peninsula Yacht Club offers several designated grilling areas for your convenience. (Designated grilling areas are A Dock, E Dock, I Dock and M Dock)

THE SAILING SCENE With the arrival of warmer weather, the Sail Fleet Committee is gearing up for the start of the Spring Fellowship Series, which will feature five races beginning April 11 and running through May 16. For those who want to do more laidback sailing, our third social sail of 2021 will be March 20. 2021 has brought some changes to both the US Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing and the Lakewide Sailing Instructions. Be sure to reach out to US Sailing to get a new copy of the Racing Rules of Sailing (www.ussailing.org). The Lakewide Sailing Instructions are maintained by the Lake Norman Keelboat Council and can be found on their website, http://www.lnkc.com. Elsewhere on the lake this month, the Outrigger Yacht Club will be hosting the annual 150 Bridge Race on March 20th, which is a long distance course that starts just outside the PYC running to the Hwy 150 bridge and back. The Lake Norman Yacht Club will be hosting the Keel Boat Midwinters on March 13/14. Both of these events are open to any sail boat with a Lake Norman Keel Boat Council rating. We will be hosting an America’s Cup watch party on the PYC lawn on Saturday, March 6. Even though the US team has been eliminated from the finals, it is still a thrilling event to watch. We hope you can come join us.

COMMODORE'S COMMENTS “As I write this article (in February), I am looking out over my white yard with its fresh covering snow while I pack my day-bag with my gear for a day of sailing! I am ever amazed at our weather and the state of our Lake in the winter months. A stiff breeze, moderate temperatures, glorious warm sun and the ONLY boat on the Lake (save for a few fisherman). As we are well into the new year, your Fleet Committee is actively planning, scheduling, replanning and rescheduling events for PYC members amidst the changing tide of Covid – with safety being paramount. Given the dynamics of the year, please check the PYC Club and Sailing calendars for on-water, educational and community service opportunities to attend, volunteer and participate. A great example was our January Fleet Committee blood donation drive that was a huge success and brought immediate benefit to our neighbors and community. Highlighted events to watch for this year include: • Monthly Social Sails • Basic Sail Educational Series • Introduction to Sailboat Racing and Race Management • Pen Cup Weekend • Poker Run Weekend • Silent Auction • Treasure Hunt • Scavenger Hunt • Spring and Fall Lake History Tours • Raft Ups • Progressive Dock Party • Fall Festival • Car Show • Boat Show I encourage all members to reach out to the Fleet Committee if you would like to be involved in any of these events.
