GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Dear Members,
We always look forward to March at the Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club. There are good winds for sailing. We enjoy seeing families take advantage of what the club has to offer. The Commodore's Ball will be March 19th. Please remember to make you reservations to attend this fabulous event. Our Summer Camps are filling up so don’t forget to sign up your children so they can enjoy the club this summer. We are having Fried Chicken Friday on March 11th and Prime Rib night on the 18th. Mark your family calendar now so you don’t forget. Are you interested in wine? We have a wonderful Wine Society at the SHPYC. Please contact Derek Kraack at drmanager@peninsulayacht.com if you would like more information or would like to join. Our parent and child Prince & Princess Tea Party is always a sell out so please make your reservations for March 26th to be able to take part in this fun event. The Ship's Store has the 2022 Marina services list and we have incorporated the information in this newsletter. Please contact the Ship's Store for assistance. Thursday, March 17th is our St. Patty’s Day event. Please make your reservations early as this event will fill quickly Please remember dining room reservations are required for lunch and dinner as we are thankfully very busy. We want to make sure that we can accommodate our members. We have had many compliments on the renovated outdoor bathrooms. For our newer members, there are showers in these bathrooms for use after boating or sailing on the lake. We look forward to breaking ground for the pool grill, bar and bathrooms in April. Modern Construction has been chosen to build for us. We have a great relationship with them and we all work well together. The pool will be open during our construction. CHEF'S CORNER
Shrimp Creole Makes 4 Servings
INGREDIENTS
3 tbsp. butter 1 small onion, chopped 1 green bell pepper, chopped 2 ribs celery, chopped Kosher salt Freshly ground black pepper 4 cloves garlic, minced 1 tbsp. paprika 2 tsp. dried thyme 2 tsp. dried oregano 1 tsp. ground cayenne 1 1/2 c. chicken broth 2 bay leaves 1 (15-oz.) can whole tomatoes, crushed 2 green onions, thinly sliced, plus more for garnish 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce Juice of 1/2 lemon 1 tbsp. vegetable oil 1 1/2 lb. shrimp
DIRECTIONS
1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add onion, pepper, and celery and cook until soft, 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Add garlic, paprika, thyme, oregano, and cayenne and cook until fragrant, 1 to 2 minutes more. Add chicken broth and bay leaf and bring to a boil. Lower to a simmer and cook until reduced by about 1/4, 6 to 8 minutes. 2. Add tomatoes and cook until reduced by half, about 10 minutes. Add green onions and Worcestershire sauce and cook until thickened, about 10 minutes more. Season again with salt and pepper if needed, then turn off heat and stir in lemon juice. 3. In a separate large skillet, heat oil. Add shrimp and cook until pink and opaque, about 2 minutes per side. Season with salt and pepper, then add prepared sauce to shrimp. Garnish with green onions and serve with rice.

Winter is coming to an end! It is almost that time of year to de-winterize and get ready for the season. Be careful though! March can be a very deceiving month. We can easily have 70’s one day and then the next day be back below freezing. You can however start to prepare. There is a lot to think about when getting ready for the season because the last thing you want is to arrive and find that your boat won’t start.
1. Remember that if your boat was winterized through the club make sure you call to schedule your dewinterization. 2. During this time the boat can be assessed, and any issues addressed at that time. 3. oil changes, impellers and other routine maintenance can also be done during this time. Use your own judgement but it is recommended to de-winterize around first of April.

Fueling Safety As we start to prepare for boating this season you will likely be making that trip to the gas pump for that first fill up. Please refresh your memory of these very important steps when fueling your vessel. REMEMBER WHEN A BOAT EXPLODES ITS TOO LATE!!! Proper Fueling Procedures Fueling Your Boat : BoatUS Foundation Proper fueling procedures are very important in preventing onboard fires. Gasoline vapors are heavier than air and can spread rapidly into enclosed spaces. You should check the bilges and all closed compartments for gasoline vapors. The sniff test is the most effective method for detecting fuel leaks. The proper way to fuel your boat is as follows: • Secure boat to the dock • Switch off engine • Extinguish all open flames • Do not use electrical switches • No smoking • Ports, hatches, and doors closed • Make certain all passengers are ashore • Determine quantity of fuel required and make sure it is the proper type of fuel • Hold hose nozzle firmly against fill pipe opening • Do not overfill • Wipe up all spillage • Open ports, hatches, and doors to ventilate • Turn blower on for four minutes minimum • Do the sniff test • Start engine • Re-board passengers • Untie from dock and cast off Proper fueling techniques also keep our water clean and safe, and help marine life thrive in a healthier environment. You are legally required to report fuel spills, and to take prompt action to clean up any spills that may occur.

FLEET COMMITTEE NEWS Hello Members, I hope you are looking forward to springtime as much as I am! I know with all we have been through the past couple of years, many of you have felt shut in, but there are so many things happening at our wonderful club that are calling your name to get involved with. I hear all the time…” How can I get involved?” The first thing you should do is come to a Social Committee Meeting. The purpose of the Social Committee meeting is to support the SHPYC & Fleet Committee in personalizing Club Events, and to offer new ideas to the SHPYC management. Enhance communication of our clubs activities and events to all members. Encourage participation in all the wonderful social opportunities that SHPYC has to offer. What a great way for you to get involved. Normally we meet the first Thursday of each month at 6pm for an hour but come 15 minutes early and have a little social time before to meet and greet new people! Please look at The Watch calendar for any date changes for the Social Committee meeting or better yet send me your email to get you on the Social Committee distribution list. Our March 3rd Social Committee meeting will be a great opportunity for you as we are going to do more of a ‘mixer’ style meeting with complimentary beer and wine, which will be a great time to share new ideas and meet other members for some fun. So come learn what we are all about and learn how you can be more involved in this club. Also, a great opportunity for you to get more involved is with our annual charity silent auction that benefits three local charities. This year, our silent auction will be held June 18th with our 24th annual Poker Run. This is a wonderful way to get more involved and right now is the time we need to get donations for the auction, so we need your help. If you would like to get involved, please contact Pamela Black, Gail Treen or Wes Bray. This Auction has benefitted three much deserved organizations over the years, and we want to continue these donations. The Fleet Committee and SHPYC offers 20+ events for you to participate in and we always need volunteers to help with these events making it a fun time for all. We as volunteers know how to have fun working on these events too, so come join us. If you wish to volunteer for ANY event and are not sure how to go about it, contact me. My email is jankurdin@gmail.com I will direct you to the correct person running the event! Again, you have ideas for new events. Come to a Social meeting. Any member is welcome and there is no commitment. As a reminder, we have the Commodore’s Ball scheduled for March 19th with the theme, “An Evening Around the Globe.” This promises to be a fun night, so please join us for this great event to meet members, have some laughs and build lasting friendships and memories.
