Throughout his career, he has focused on delivering outstanding service while fostering a welcoming environment for both members and guests. His commitment to excellence and attention to detail will help elevate the dining experience at the Club. Joining Kirt is Caroline Artz as our Assistant Dining Room Manager. Caroline brings a positive energy, strong organizational skills, and a dedication to member satisfaction. She is eager to build relationships with our members and support the team in providing the high level of service you have come to expect. Where to dock if arrving by water Attention all social members: you may wonder sometimes, “Where can I dock for lunch or dinner?” As you arrive, if during Ship’s Store hours, please communicate with the marina team via VHF 11 or use your cell phone and call 704-997-9580. Your marina team will help direct you to the most convenient location to allow for a most enjoyable visit. If after Ship’s Store hours, the following slips are available on a first come first serve basis. Please leave the pump outside and open at all times. G-Dock (Gas Dock) -Slips 1,2,3,4,5, (front fueling slips available after hours) End caps -Docks A-M All your marina needs are found at The SHPYC Marina Ship’s Store. Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club Complimentary Watercraft To enjoy the kayaks, canoes, and SUPS, just stop by the Ship’s Store and sign them out. A paddle and PFD will be provided. You must be at least 16 to sign out or have an adult with you. Life jackets must be worn at all times. www.americancanoe.org Important Statistics 85% of canoe fatalities were not wearing a lifejacket. 48% of kayak fatalities were not wearing a lifejacket. Experienced paddlers are four times as likely to wear their lifejackets. Lifejackets not only provide additional flotation in case of a capsize or an unexpected swim, but they also provide an essential layer of warmth in cold water. Wear It! Lifejackets Matter. Paddlers need to be aware of a few of the “Rules of the Road” when sharing resources with other marine traffic. Importantly, keep a proper lookout. Remember to be courteous to other boaters and law enforcement officers. They’re there to help you to be safe and have fun.
FLEET COMMITTEE NEWS By: Ryan Smalley & Yolanda Jones Treasurer | Secretary And just like that, Summer is in full swing! While the month of July is sandwiched between two of the Fleet Committee's signature events, our Poker Run in May and our upcoming Saddles & Spurs in August, we hope that you will still hang out with us this month! We have our Raft-Up on July 10th, and a Ladies Kayak & Paddle experience on July 25th! And, as always, if you have any ideas for a future event, or if you want to know how to volunteer, join our Social Committee meeting on July 9th- it’s open to all! Our 2026 theme, “Landfall” or “Land Ho,” is a nod to the sense of home and joy that you experience after a long journey. We hope that every time you come to any event, we help create that for you! Thank you for your support for one of the Fleet’s major events of the year, our Poker Run on June 13th. It was a beautiful day on the lake for collecting the cards and a fun, frenzied time playing the hands and running raffle giveaways! We had over 21 boats participate, plus shuttle rides from Talley’s Pier 77 Marine for those without a boat, along with participation from TowBoat USA and Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club’s very own double-decker pontoon. Thank you to our sponsors (Talley’s Pier 77 Marine, Foreign Cars of Charlotte, Promo Threads, Mission Enterprises, and United Community Bank) and to all of the members who participated and made this a truly wonderful event. The money raised during the Poker Run both helps support the Fleet Committee so we can continue to put on events for all the members, and this year was shared with one of our charities - The Calvin Newman Fund, which supports boating and water safety. Speaking of fun events, as previously mentioned, this year’s big charity event is just around the corner on August 28th. Saddles and Spurs is this year’s theme and promises to deliver a good time! More info will be coming soon, but please mark your calendars and save the date to attend or volunteer. All of the money raised at the event will go to our charities – Via Health Partners (offering Hospice and Palliative Care) and the Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center. We would love to see all of you for an evening of fun and to support both of these wonderful charities and the services they provide our communities.
