GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Dear Members, Welcome to the Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club's 30th anniversary. If you have any photos of years gone by, please email them to me so we can showcase them at our 30th birthday event here at the club in June! 2026 will be a tremendous year for the club, our yacht members, and social members alike. We have so many events planned, and we look forward to seeing you all! The Ship’s Store is continuing its sale through Saturday, January 31st. There are so many nice items at great discounts. BOATING & MARINA NEWS BY: HARRY SMITH - MARINA MANAGER/MASTER CAPTAIN

Wintertime Planning Every year around this time, I like to send a reminder to all boat owners to make sure everyone is checking their boat… out of sight, out of mind! There are many factors that can create problems for boat owners this time of year. Being proactive and knowing what to look for is important. Here is a list of a few things that I feel would be helpful. Batteries must stay charged. Many things can drain a battery over time, such as bilge pumps and electronics, just to name a few. Bilge pumps and floats go bad. Bilge heaters must have power to work and must be tested periodically. Remember NO LIGHT BULBS!!! Always check to make sure the boat has power. GFCIs, breakers at the dock and on the boat can sometimes trip. Keep boats covered! Tight covers can protect your boat and help keep water out. Remove all unnecessary items from the boat. After rain, be sure to check the engine compartment and covers for excess water. Keep snow brushed off covers. The weight can damage poles and rip covers. Snow here is rare, but when we get it, it’s normally wet and heavy. When bad weather does occur, be careful when entering the dock. Gangways and walkways can become slippery. If there are items that you see that need to be addressed, please bring them to your marina team's attention. If you are ever in a position that prevents you from checking your boat, please call the ship’s store, and we will be happy to check on things for you!

FLEET COMMITTEE NEWS BY: TIM HARBICK, 2026 COMMODORE Happy 2026! I am Tim Harbick, the 2026 Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club Fleet Committee’s 30th Commodore. It is my privilege to take this opportunity to thank our 2025 Commodore, Pamela Black, for her dedication and leadership of the Fleet, Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club’s Kathee Dishner and her team for an outstanding partnership, and membership for your continued support. I would also like to thank and recognize the 2025 Fleet Committee for the countless hours they devoted to planning and executing 28 events this past year. Their commitment is the reason our Fleet thrives! So what exactly is the PYC Fleet Committee? Your Fleet is made up of Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club member volunteers whose mission is to enhance the Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club member experience. As a non-profit organization, we are self-funded through corporate sponsorships (including support from the club), event fees, and private donations. Working closely with Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club, we deliver on and off-water member experiences throughout the year that celebrate everything from power and sail boating to cars, books, and even pirates. We also proudly support local charities, including The Calvin Newman Youth Boating Education Fund, the Davison Cornelius Child Development Center, and VIA Health Partners/Hospice. This year’s commodores' theme is “Landfall.” After a long voyage, sailors traditionally shout "Land Ho!," "Land Ahoy!," or simply "We have made Landfall!” – a joyful announcement that home, peace, and comfort are in sight. My hope is that for every SHPYC member, the Club is your Landfall. I look forward to seeing you at the Commodore's Ball on January 31st as we celebrate and welcome your 30th Peninsula Yacht Club Fleet Committee. THE SAILING SCENE The Sailing Fleet Has a New Look (Don’t Panic) Happy January, Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club friends. Quick intro: we’re Colleen Lloyd-Roberts and Colleen Maruster, and we’re the new faces leading the Sailing Fleet Committee this year. And yes… the Fleet has a new look. No, we’re not repainting the boats. No, there isn’t a mandatory uniform. But if “more energy, more fun, and more sails in the air” sounds like your kind of vibe, welcome aboard. Because here’s the truth: we’ve got races, we’ve got boats, we’ve got a gorgeous lake… and sometimes getting boats to come out and sail feels like trying to catch a breeze on a dead-calm day. So consider this your friendly nudge: if your sailboat has been sitting long enough to collect “bird confetti,” this is your sign. Clean her up, air out the sails, and remember how good it feels to glide across Lake Norman under wind power. No boat? Perfect. You don’t need one to be part of the Sailing Fleet. You can crew, learn, and hang out with fellow enthusiasts. We also need race volunteers, and it’s one of the fastest ways to learn the flow, make new friends, and feel like you’re officially “in.” We’re also exploring a Women in Sailing community this year: approachable, welcoming, and built for connection and confidence. Seasoned sailor, lapsed sailor, curious sailor, or just here for the dock snacks, we want you with us. Let’s make this the year Lake Norman sees more SHPYC sails up and moving. Colleen + Colleen

2026 Fleet Committee The Fleet Committee is a dedicated group of volunteer members who collaborate with club management to host a variety of events for our members. Some of these events also support local charities by raising funds. The Social Scene offers a fun and easy way to get involved— with both the club and the Fleet Committee. It’s a great opportunity to share fresh ideas, meet new people, and volunteer for upcoming events!
