Oscar Filet Mignon, Fish Tacos, Stuffed Red Snapper are just a few of the delicious entrees we have to offer. Valentine's Dinner at the club is Wednesday, February 14th. The menu is in the Thursday eBlast and also in this edition of The Watch. Please call for reservations and we look forward to serving you. Italian Night is on the 8th and Prime Rib Night on the 16th, which always a club favorite. Commodore's Ball is on Saturday, the 10th of February. Dueling Pianos is the featured music. You will not want to miss this wonderful event. Commodore Slocum and the Fleet always make this a lovely time for the members. Polar Plunge is February 17th at the pool. The club will have the Outrigger open for member charge bar. Last year we had a fabulous turnout and the Fleet Committee raised a lot of money for Special Olympics. In the cold weather, chili always feels like a great option. We have a chili bar lunch on the 21st of February. TAPAS Night is back and it is always a sell out! Please mark your calendars for February 22nd. This is one of Chef Andres' favorite nights and he brings dishes from his home country of Spain to delight our members. Kids' Video Game Night is on the 24th and we look so forward to seeing your children again at the club. Please check your emails for the dues increase letter. The increase begins on February 1st. The social dues for this year, 2024, is $212 per month. For Yacht members, the slip increase is an average of 6.6%, based on boat size and location. KENZIE'S KORNER chocolate cake
Serves: 6-8 People
Directions 1.
Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Lightly grease round cake pans with butter. Line base with parchment paper. 3. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt into a large bowl.
Ingredients 3 ½ cups of flour 4 cups of sugar 1 ½ cups cocoa powder 4 ½ tsp baking soda 1 tsp baking powder 2 tsp salt 2 cups milk 1 cup vegetable oil 1 Tbsp vanilla extract 4 eggs 2 cups boiling water 1 stick butter Frosting as desired

4. Whisk in sugar, then add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla. Whisk well to combine until lump free. 5.
Pour boiling water into batter, mixing well.
6. Pour batter into cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. 7. Let cool for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely before frosting as desired.

BY: HARRY SMITH - MARINA MANAGER Engine cut-off switches Did You know…? Engine/Propulsion Cut-Off Devices (uscgboating.org) On April 1, 2021 a new federal law goes into effect that requires the operator of a boat with an installed Engine Cut-Off Switch (ECOS) to use the ECOS link. The link is usually a coiled bungee cord lanyard clipped onto the operator's person, Personal Floatation Device (PFD) or clothing and the other end attached to the cut-off switch, but there are plenty of variations on the market, including electronic wireless devices. The law applies on all "Navigable Waters of the US". The law applies to "Covered Recreational vessels" which means any motorized boat with 3 or more horsepower that is less than 26 feet in length and takes effect on April 1, 2021. Operator Requirement: An individual operating a covered recreational vessel shall use an engine cut-off switch link while operating on plane or above displacement speed. The terms Engine Cut-Off Switch (ECOS) and Engine/Propulsion Cut-Off Devices are used interchangeably to denote a system that disables the propulsion engine when the operator is unexpectedly displaced from the vessel. Why you should wear your Engine Cut-off Switch link? A typical three-blade propeller running at 3,200 rpm can inflict 160 impacts in one second so it is critical that you are aware of what is going on around you. Be aware: • People in the water may not be visible from the helm • Account for passengers before starting the engine • Inform passengers about propeller hazard areas • Be alert in congested areas and near swimming zones • Take extra precaution around towed watersports • Never permit riding on the bow, gunwale, transom, seatbacks, or other locations where an occupant could fall overboard. • Children should be watched carefully at all times – it only takes a second to fall overboard • You would childproof your home so think about childproofing your boat • Establish rules for swim platform use, boarding ladders, and seating • If someone falls overboard, STOP the boat; once clear begin recovery procedures • Warning - Never put your boat in reverse to pick someone up out of the water, always circle around going forward while keeping the person in the water visible to the boat operator at all times.
