GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE: JEFF KING Hello Members, I’m excited to introduce myself as the new General Manager and become part of this incredible club community. My name is Jeff King, and I bring more than 20 years of hospitality and club leadership experience, including leadership roles with private country clubs and restaurants. Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about delivering exceptional member experiences, building great teams, and creating welcoming environments where people feel connected and valued. Most recently, my wife Katie, our son Jacob, and I relocated from the Washington, D.C. area to be closer to family and to begin an exciting new chapter here. We are thrilled to be part of this community and are already enjoying getting to know the area and the wonderful people who make this club so special. My leadership style is simple: be visible, be approachable, and always listen. You’ll often find me walking the club, visiting the docks, attending events, or simply stopping by to chat. I believe the best ideas and strongest relationships come from everyday conversations with our members. Please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself when you see me around. Whether you’d like to share feedback, discuss ideas, or just say hello, I’d love the opportunity to meet you personally. I look forward to getting to know each of you and working together to make our club an even more enjoyable place for our members, families, and guests. See you around the club! NIGHTTIME NAVIGATION If you missed our nighttime navigation class, here are some highlights. We had a great time discussing and witnessing what to do and what NOT to do. We began observing navigational day shapes that soon led to nighttime navigation lights. We were able to see boats with proper running/anchor lights as well as vessels running with no lights. Navigating at night can be the most relaxing and tranquil experience but you do have to stay aware of your surroundings. A special shout out to Sea Tow of Lake Norman for joining us out on the water. Captain Nate was able to share some of his experiences at night and was able to educate all of us. FLEET COMMITTEE NEWS By: Michael ‘Capt Dr Mike’ Miltich, 2026 Fleet Purser The Peninsula Yacht Club Fleet Committee (PYCFC) partners with the Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club and hosts an incredible series of unique and fun events that provide Club members with the opportunity to meet and connect with other members. These fun and engaging outings help build friendships and the Club a welcoming place. Fleet Committee events occur all year long. The Commodore’s Ball*, Boat Safety/Inspections*, Spring Lake History Tour, Car/Boat Show, Pancake Breakfast, Fleet Commissioning*, monthly Social Committee, Deal Me In (Card Night), Women in Sailing, Ladies Kayak and Paddle, Raft-Ups, and the Poker Run have already occurred and each was a tremendous success. Still to occur this year are additional Raft-Ups, Saddles and Spurs Charity-for-a-Cause, Crew Party, Fall Lake History Tour, Fall Fellowship Regatta, Peninsula Cup Regatta, and the Pirate Treasure Hunt (a family favorite). (*events hosted jointly) All this only happens because of 1) our incredible Fleet Committee volunteers who cannot be thanked enough, and 2) our Sponsors. The Purser manages the relationship between our Sponsors and the PYCFC. I would like to recognize our 2026 Sponsors (and their sponsorship level; additional events indicated by +): Commodore Foreign Cars of Charlotte and Talley’s Pier 77; Captain Mission Enterprises II+3, Windsor Jewelers+2, Davidson Wealth Management, and Hendrick Northlake; Captain/Ensign Promo Threads; and Ensign United Community Bank+2. Please thank them for their support and consider supporting them in return. Now for some suggestions and reminders: 1) Everyone, especially boaters, should have what3words app on their phone. This free app generate 3 words that pinpoints your location within 10 feet. This greatly speeds up emergency response. All responding agencies on LKN use this app, and it is used worldwide. 2) Spirits (liquor and fortified wine) are only legal on vessels that would qualify as a residence, ie a vessel that has a birth, head and some include a galley. Unlike other boating violations, alcohol citations can have graver consequences. BTW Alcohol is involved in most boating accidents/fatalities. 3) Inform new boaters that even though they can’t be seen, propellers are sharp, spin fast, and need serious respect. 4) Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) save lives - but only if worn! THE SAILING SCENE Scan, Register, Sail: Fall Racing Is Calling
August is here, which means it’s time to get the PYC Fall race season on your calendar. But keep reading social sailors - we’ve got something for you too! This month, you’ll see two QR codes to scan and register for two of Lake Norman’s biggest sailing events: the PYC Sailing Fleet Fall Fellowship Series Races and the 34th annual Pen Cup Regatta. All races open to ALL sailors, including non-Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club members. Call your friends! And... WE’RE ADDING A SOCIAL SAILING Category for all social sailors! The Fall Fellowship Series takes place three consecutive weekends: September 13, 20, and 27. These races are a fantastic way to meet fellow sailing enthusiasts from around the area, not just the shores of Lake Norman. You do not have to be a seasoned racer to join the fun. Register, show up, sail, learn, laugh, and let the wind do its thing. Then comes the big one: The PYC Fleet Committee Pen Cup Regatta. We kick off with a Crew Party on Friday evening October 2 at Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club, followed by race day on Saturday, October 3. The day begins with breakfast and pickup of your extra-bougie Captain and Crew Swag Bags, then back-to-back races, fun, sun, wind, laughs, friends and wind up the day with our awards’ banquet in the afternoon featuring Chef Andres’ spread of beef tenderloin, grilled marinated vegetables, deviled eggs, Swedish meatballs, and gazpacho shooters. Not racing but don’t want to miss out on the fun? Join the race committee boat, mark boat, safety boat, swag bag crew, merch team, or cheer squad. We will train you for anything you don’t know how to do. Just email us with “I’m in” and we’ll reach back out to you to find you a perfect spot for the day. 2026 Fleet Committee The Fleet Committee is a dedicated group of volunteer members who collaborate with club management to host a variety of events for our members. Some of these events also support local charities by raising funds. The Social Scene offers a fun and easy way to get involved— with both the club and the Fleet Committee.
