GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Dear Members, We have all been anticipating warmer weather and our boating season beginning! As always, we look forward to seeing you all at the club as there are many opportunities for you to socialize. Member and Past Commodore, Mr. & Mrs. John Johnson will be giving a Spring Lake History Tour on the April 10. The Calvin Newman Youth Boating Safety Seminar will be in the Commodore's Room on April 17. We continue to have our First Friday music at the club. It is a great time to enjoy dining and the wonderful view that The PYC offers members and their guests. Bunny Brunch is back as well as Easter Brunch. The Easter Egg hunt is also back this year and we know the kids will have fun! Our in-season rates have been posted and we are bringing back the ever popular Burger Night. Our Sunday night dining will be called Casual Sunday. Our menu is online for you to view. The Prohibition Dinner will be a great time for our members to enjoy their member friends! We are celebrating our 25th anniversary with a Throwback dinner — 1996 with prices from 25 years ago. Harry, our Marina Manager, and the Dockhands are here to serve you. Please call the Ship's Store for assistance. The Nopkehee is available to rent and it makes for some fabulous Sundown Cruises. Nikole, our Events Director, can assist you in setting up your cruise. CHEF'S CORNER

Romesco Sauce It is a perfect sauce for steak!! It brings a great flavor and it is colorful. Ingredients: • 1 large roasted red peppers, from a jar • 1 garlic clove, smashed • ½ cup slivered almonds, toasted • ¼ cup tomato puree • 2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley • 2 tablespoons sherry vinager • 1 teaspoon smoke paprika • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil • Fine sea salt and freshly ground black pepper Preparation: Pulse first 8 ingredients in a food processor until very finely chopped. With motor running, slowly add oil, process until smooth. Season with salt and pepper as you like.

Saturday, April 10 2:00 - 4:00 PM Follow fellow members, John and Betsy Johnson, on “Splashy Lady” as they guide a group of boats along the southern portion of Lake Norman. They will point out many historical interests. Keeping with Social Distancing, all interested Participants would join via their own boat, preferably with their immediate family. BOATING & MARINA NEWS Marina manager reminder

As we approach another busy season please remember these tips when at the fuel dock! Fueling tips by Boat US: Whether you refuel at a roadside gas station, on the water at a gas dock, or use portable containers there are some general tips that apply to all fueling situations. Safety first! •No matter where you are refueling, always clear the area of anyone not directly involved with fueling. • Put out all smoking materials and secure your boat to the dock. • Turn off engine(s), electronics, and extinguish all open flames. • Keep the nozzle in contact with the edge of the fill to prevent build up of static electricity to prevent sparking. • Don't top off your tank. Know how much fuel your tank holds and fill it to about 90%. Fuel expands as temperatures rise. • Clean up fuel spills immediately with an oil-only absorbent pad. Wipe down the bilge or any interior parts that may have come in contact with fuel. • Treat your fueling operations with care. Never use hands-free clips, and avoid any distractions while fueling. Harry Smith, Marina & Aquatics Manager With the arrival of spring and peak boating season here on our beautiful lake, we will again initiate tracking participation points for the annual Ed Sherrard Memorial Power Boater of the Year Award. The award is a tradition at our club and honors those boaters who are active in the many events that the club and Fleet Committee work to organize annually. Points are available for a wide range of The Peninsula Yacht Club activities, and extend well beyond power boat events (Raft-Ups, Lake Norman History Tours, Poker Run and many others) to include recognition for volunteer participation in key club efforts as well as completion of the educational and safety seminars that keep our members safe. Watch the club website for additional information; beginning with the May edition of The Watch we will showcase upcoming qualifying events along with the current points status. The Ed Sherrard Power Boater of the Year Award is an enjoyable, competitive challenge that takes place every year, so please join in on the fun. THE SAILING SCENE April marks the start of several sailing series on Lake Norman and beyond. • The PYC Spring Fellowship Series begins April 11 and features five Sunday afternoon races through May 16. Register at https://www.regattanetwork.com/event/21959 • For those who want to do more laidback sailing, the PYC’s fourth social sail of 2021 will be April 17. • Lake Norman Yacht Club kicks off their 2nd year of hosting a Thursday Night race series beginning April 8 running through September 9. Go to https://www.lakenormanyc.org/ for more details and registration information. • Outrigger Yacht Club’s Wednesday Night Series starts April 7 and runs through August 4. Go to http://www.outriggeryachtclub.org/ for more information and links to register. • Charleston Race Week celebrates its 25 year anniversary April 8-11. All three Lake Norman yacht clubs will be represented as there are currently 5 boats from LKN that will be competing in the VX-1, J/70, J/80 and J/88 classes. For sailors venturing out for the 1st time since winterizing your boat, we are glad to see you back on the water. Please make sure to do a thorough inspection of your vessel before venturing out including fuel lines, and through hull connections. Inspect mooring lines for wear, as well as the condition of all standing and running rigging. Don’t forget to inspect safety gear too and make sure all life vests and throwables are accounted for and in good condition.

The mission of the Calvin Newman Fund is “to promote and support youth boating safety education and awareness in honor of, and legacy to, Calvin Newman.” The primary goal is to support and sponsor youth boating safety seminars in the Lake Norman area that contribute to the ultimate safety of our youth boaters. Special recognition for the development and delivery of the PWC Youth Safety Seminars are extended to our local USCGA Division 26, Cornelius PD Lake Patrol Unit, Water Safety Foundation, PYC, and the CNF.
