It has been so nice to see so many of you in the month of March, and we are thrilled that April is here to usher so many more members into this beautiful club. So many member friendships have formed here at the club. We enjoy watching your children and grandchildren grow up at the club as well.

Easter Brunch is on April 5 , and the Easter Bunny will be here for pictures! We can’t wait to have you all enjoy this delicious brunch that Chef Andres and his culinary team have prepared for you.

The Outrigger is open on weekends! We look forward to seeing you, and we invite you to bring your friends to enjoy this wonderful amenity.

Our Summer Kids Program is full of excitement for rising pre-k through rising 5 grade. We have themed celebrations, hands-on arts and crafts, and interactive learning experiences. Why and What is a Vessel Safety Check?

all Safe Harbor Yacht and

Social Members

Every year, with the help of the CG Auxiliary, we like to promote and host VSC’s (vessel safety checks) here on Lake Norman and here at your very own SHPYC! This inspection is complimentary and will point out safety items that might be needed or missing from your vessel. The FREE VSC’s only takes a few minutes and can be schedule to accommodate your busy schedule.

Have you been wondering if you have the proper safety equipment aboard your boat? Getting a late start on the season, or did you just acquire a new vessel and want to make sure you're ready to get out on the water for the first time?

Vessel Safety Checks are FREE and take only about 10 minutes, depending on vessel size. They are performed by qualified US Coast Guard vessel examiners. There are no negative consequences if you do not pass and solely serve as an educational opportunity to help you, your family, and guests on your vessel be safer on the water. Vessels that pass will receive a sticker on the spot, indicating to other boaters that the vessel passed a Vessel Safety Check this season, but we can come back again for free if there is anything your vessel is missing the first time!

All of these items are currently required by state and federal laws and, if missing or non-operating, can result in a citation if your vessel is inspected by the Coast Guard or local Lake Patrol Officers.

The Vessel Safety Check gives you a risk-free way to check that you meet the legal minimums and to potentially avoid a citation later.

Welcome to Spring and another fantastic boating season! After a Winter that felt like it would never end, seeing the thermometer climb again has many of us eager to get our boats back in the water There’s nothing quite like that first cruise of the season to remind us why we love life on the lake

Your Fleet Committee has been hard at work planning a great lineup of events, both on the water and at the club, to keep the season fun and engaging for everyone. Here are a few highlights coming up:

April 8, May 6, and June 10 – “Deal Me In” Card Game Nights: Ever wanted to learn Euchre, Spades, or Poker? Or simply enjoy a relaxed evening with fellow members? Join us for this casual three-evening series featuring easy instruction, friendly competition, and plenty of laughs.

April 11 – Celebrity Home & History Tour: Our first lake tour of the year includes a look at some of Lake Norman’s most notable celebrity homes; some you may even recognize from the big screen. No boat? No problem. We’ll provide a shuttle and hosts so everyone can join the fun.

April 25 – Annual Car and Boat Show: Our 5th annual show promises an impressive lineup, from early 1900s classics to modern exotics, along with beautiful wooden and fiberglass boats. Admission is free, so bring friends and be sure to vote for your favorites.

May 9 – Cinco de Mayo Themed On-Shore Raft Up: Join us at the Outrigger for festive food, drinks, and fun. Mexicaninspired attire is encouraged as we celebrate together before another great summer on the water

May 23 – Pancake Breakfast: Creative pancakes, good company, and full bellies Always a favorite Fleet Committee tradition Compliments of Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club

May 24 – Fleet Commissioning: We’ll officially kick off the boating season with our annual ceremony and club dinner afterwards

Cyndi Lauper sang, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” but let’s be honest… if she’d spent any real time around sailors, that lyric would have been very different. Because sailors don’t just want to have fun they practically invented it. From sea shanties and celebratory toasts in the 1800s to rum-soaked stories swapped in harbors around the world, sailing and revelry have long gone hand in hand. Fast forward to Jimmy Buffett, Son of a Son of a Sailor, and the legendary rum stops of the BVI, where hats, t-shirts, and treasurehunt-worthy keepsakes become badges of honor earned one salty adventure at a time.

And now? That spirit is dropping anchor right here at Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club

The “Get The Wind In Your Sails” Member Mixer on April 10 is going to have a distinctly nautical twist as the Women in Sailing group, created by the PYC Fleet Committee, brings a little sailor mischief and a lot of fun to the party. Expect a festive evening with a signature rum cocktail, a sailing-inspired music playlist, and a burgee challenge that will put your maritime knowledge to the test. This is your invitation to come raise a glass, swap a story, meet fellow members, and celebrate the adventurous spirit that makes sailing such a vibrant part of club life. Whether you sail every weekend or just love the lifestyle or idea of it, this mixer promises a wave of fun you won’t want to miss.

The Fleet Committee is a dedicated group of volunteer members who collaborate with club management to host a variety of events for our members. Some of these events also support local charities by raising funds. The Social Scene offers a fun and easy way to get involved with both the club and the Fleet Committee.
