HPV VACCINATION FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is HPV? HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is a very common virus spread through sexual contact. Certain high-risk HPV types can cause cervical cancer, as well as anal, throat, vulvar, and vaginal cancers.

How does HPV vaccination help reduce cervical cancer? HPV vaccination prevents infection from high-risk HPV types responsible for about 70-90% of cervical cancer cases. It reduces abnormal cervical cell changes. When combined with regular screening (HPV test/ Pap smear, it can almost eliminate cervical cancer.

When should HPV vaccination be taken? The vaccine works best when given before sexual exposure, but it can still be beneficial after becoming sexually active.

When is the recommended age for HPV vaccination? Girls and boys aged 9-14 years : Best age to start Adolescent and adults up to 45 years: Can still benefit from vaccination.
