WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11, 2026 The Feedlot • Belfield, ND • 1 p.m. MST
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 29th Annual Heart River Ranch production sale. We are appreciative of the support and continued interest we have received in our program this year and every year. 2025 was an exceptional year for most of us and the cattle and cows responded nicely to the abundance of grass pretty much throughout the year. In addition, cattle prices continued to escalate throughout the year making this one most producers will remember for a long time.
We have heard reports from customers who have topped sales with replacement females and steers this past year and it is a tribute to the great cattle people we have the opportunity to work with and the hard work you all do with your herds.
There is over 130 lots of breeding stock to consider in this year’s sale. Frankie and Katie Dillman have 10 open commercial heifers and about as many bred heifers for your review. Frankie and Katie have moved the bar in their program and made significant progress in developing a great cow herd and it is evident in this year’s females they are selling. HRR is listing 60 bulls, 15 plus open commercial heifers and 40 registered heifers. The commercial heifers will sell in lots of 5 or more and if anyone purchases a registered open heifer with the intention of not needing the papers, we will knock $100 off those lots. We don’t care how they are used in the end as long as they get the job done for you. All of the heifer lots will precede the bull sale.
We feel this year’s offering is one of the best we have ever produced. In our mission of raising more consistent breeding stock that are bred to be no nonsense, no drama cattle that are genetically sustainable from year to year, we feel we have made another step in that direction.
All the bulls and heifers are available for viewing at the Open A feedlot all day any time prior to the sale that is convenient for you. We are always ready to assist you in your selection decisions and to provide any information you may need. Additional information will be provided as it is made available on our website at www.heartrivergenetics. com.
Thank you for your interest in program and past patronage. We are honored to be able to serve your needs for genetic stock. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Historic Photos
Most of the historic photos in this catalog were taken by Inez Kessler, Annette’s great grandmother between 1905 and 1908 in the Gaylord, ND area. Inez was the only person to have a camera in the area and as a result she took pictures of many people and events. The town of Gaylord was located about 13 miles south of Belfield, ND along US Highway 85. The Gaylord Post Office and store was a stop for travelers going south. This building still stands at the Curt Molm+ place.

Feeding and Development of Bulls
All bulls of Heart River Ranch were weaned in September. We don’t creep feed – every pound of weaning weight was produced from grass and milk. Calves received their pre-weaning and weaning vaccinations and were handled in every respect as all natural. Bulls were fed to gain 2.75 lb per head per day on a high roughage diet with 1% grain and by product rotation. Bulls were fed free choice mineral, salt, and hay. We took yearling weights at approximately 105 to 120 days post weaning with no post weaning adjustment period or warm up period. Our intent is to grow out the bulls for maximum longevity and integrity of the bull.
Cow Herd Management
We don’t creep feed – every pound of weaning weight was produced from grass and milk.
• Our cows do not get supplemental feed – only vitamins and minerals.
• Our cattle run in large pastures – in rough terrain – where cattle work to graze and water in the summer and winter. We typically feed long stem hay from mid-January to mid-April or when grass alone will not sustain them in the spring.
• When we can - cows calve on rangeland unless winter weather dictates otherwise.
• Our cattle are dog broke and worked off horses.
• We strive to use low stress cattle handling practices any time cattle are moved or worked.
• We time breed AI and run multiple bull pastures so every heifer or bull sold is parentage tested.
The terms of the sale are cash. No release will be given until satisfactory settlement has been made. All settlements will be made with the clerks of the sale immediately after the sale. We reserve the right to withhold animals from shipment for whom payments have not been received prior to departure date. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. All Sales are subject to an acceptable semen examination. Semen evaluation certificates will be furnished to the buyer at delivery.
Bulls will be carcass ultra sounded on approximately February 25.
Updated EPD information, carcass ultrasound, and genomic data will be provided at the sale and available at www.heartrivergenetics.com. This information will be available as soon as it is received from the Red Angus Association of America.
All bulls have been tested using the Geneseek HD genomic test and parent verified. All bulls and heifers sold will be DNA tested free of any known genetic defects.
Health certificates and brand releases will be furnished for shipment anywhere in the United States.
Females will be available to take home after the sale.
Each animal carries a readable tattoo or freeze brand.
Insurance
Ownership risk to purchaser commences when the auctioneer’s hammer falls. Insurance will be available sale day. It is recommended that buyers insure their purchases for safe delivery. Purchaser assumes the risk of death or injury to their livestock when the hammer falls. Martin-Trudeau Insurance will be available sale day to discuss insurance options.
Heart River Ranch Loss of Use Policy
2026 optional loss of use policy: Heart River Ranch is striving to offer the best options not only in beef animal genetics but also loss of use protection for bulls and/or females we offer to our customers. We strongly recommend that our buyers purchase insurance on their animals. Animals that will be fed for an extended period need to have insurance on them.
Heart River Ranch will pay 5% of sale price toward the insurance policy. The balance of the policy will be paid by the customer. If the customer chooses to decline the policy, Heart River Ranch has no obligation to cover any loses due to injury, sickness, or death. Heart River Ranch does guarantee all cattle to be sound the day of the sale. All bulls will be semen tested by the Circle C Vet Clinic in March/April 2026..

In the event a bull is claimed to be a non-breeder, the purchaser may return the animal to the ranch of the seller if in good condition and complying with the health requirements of the seller’s state. The seller will be entitled to six months trial following the return of the animal in which to prove that the animal is a breeder. If at the end of six months, the seller shall be obligated to replace the animal with another of equal value or to refund the purchase price. The return of the full purchase price shall in any case be deemed full satisfaction and settlement. If the seller proved the animal to be a breeder, it shall be the obligation of the purchaser to take delivery of the animal at the purchaser’s expense.

THE HEART RIVER RANCH COW HERD
No Nonsense and No Drama
• We have been in the seedstock business for 31 years.
• 99% of our breeding cows are home raised.
– We know their history, their parent’s history, and their parents’ parents’ history.
• SELECTION – Our selection process aligns with our primary customer, the commercial cattle producer.
• We select for convenience traits such as foot and leg structure, mothering ability, disposition, udder conformation and quality. With labor availability being the weakest link in most operations, cows that function without extra intervention are more valuable to the operation.
• We select for longevity, and we just don’t give it lip service but actually select bulls and cull cows based on their actual or potential longevity. Longevity has more economic impact on the bottom line of a cattle producer than any other trait.
• The bulls in our 2026 sale dam’s Herdbuilder index is in the top 20% of the breed and Stay EPD is in the top 15% of the breed.
• We weigh and condition score cows – which means the Heart River Ranch EPDs for Maitenance Energy and Dry Matter Intake are more accurate than herds that don’t weigh cows and condition score.
• Our cows earn their place in the herd – if they don’t, they are gone.
• We don’t tolerate any issues that we would not want you to deal with.
• We do not retain open cows – for any reason. – Cows are not held over or given a second chance.
• We don’t flush virgin heifers or unproven young cows.
• Anything we flush or have flushed proved they earned the donor status.
• The youngest donor cow we have ever flushed was 8 years old.
• We flush cows that qualify to promote the maternal aspects of the Red Angus breed.
• Our selection priorities are not focused on any traits that are antagonistic with the advancement of maternal genetics.
HEART RIVER RANCH HERD SIRES
Sire Selection... Tried and True
Our sire selection is not based on the latest fads or “hot bloodlines” in fact more often than not, we select for tried-and-true genetics that are proven to make mother cows- the average age of the dams of the bulls in our sale is 6.2 years old.
Semen is available on some of our reference sires. We provide discounted semen prices to bull and heifer customers on any bull we have access to or own, if you are interested in using one of our bulls AI. Availability varies so please let us know if you are interested in a particular bull.
Ridge Navigator 0039 was used naturally and AI until we lost him to frost a couple years ago. We use him AI still today given his dam; Ridge Hobo 016-9027 was an outstanding producer at SandBur Ridge where she produced 14 natural calves before becoming a donor. She was the top cow in their Cornerstone Cow Program with her performance ratios from birth (92) to weaning (108) are hard to find. We hope for that same longevity and performance in his offspring. Ten offspring sell.

HEART RIVER RANCH YEARLING BULLS
Ranch Ready, Ranch Tough
The bulls are developed on a high roughage diet. We feel that bulls grown and not fattened have more longevity.
No creep feed – every pound of weaning weight is produced from grass and milk.
HRR MAX 5244
HRR Max 5244 started with a moderate 82# birth and weaned over 700 pounds with a 109 WWR. His dam, HRR Sheba 006, is a top young producer with a 359-day calving interval, 97 BWR, 109 WWR, 107 YWR and a 106 MPPA with three proven dams behind her from the Sheba cow family. A rare opportunity to tap into a Flying K Max 159Y son and move the needle on both performance and maternal. Here is a herd bull for heifers that will also work on cows. These commercial heifers are the middle cut from our commercial recipient cow herd. Our commercial cows run with our registered cows so the sires to these heifers will be half-sisters to most of the bulls in the sale. This year along with the 10 bred heifers Frankie and Katie decided to sort off 10 open replacement heifers to sell. Picking 10 out of the home raised group of heifers wasn’t easy. All of these replacements are out of our older cows which were all born in the first cycle, their mothers have been on the ranch since birth, so they have some stay-ability bred into them. They were weaned October 19, 2025, and received their vaccinations a month prior. After a week in the corral the replacements are all wintered in a 90-acre pasture with a deep draw for protection. They were trailed in by horse the first week in the pasture, so they learned to come to the yard for their daily ration of corn and cake. Currently they are being fed 3lbs of cracked corn with a pound of cake sprinkled on top along with chopped hay where all the net wrap was removed before being ground. Every day, Frankie and Katie go out with the feed pickup and bucket feed the heifers in metal feed bunks. They have been desensitized by two wild little boys who like to help fill the bunks with their mini buckets and are sure to make some noise while the heifers ate their daily ration. They are super deep bodied and moderately framed so they have a good build to them. The Dillman Ranch has been using Heart River Ranch bulls for the past 4 years and lots of these heifer’s stem back to HRR bloodlines. Will have actual weights prior to sale day and will all be vet checked prior to sale day, guaranteed to breed.

10 HD DILLMAN RANCH BRED HEIFERS
The Commercial Red Angus Bred Heifers will be sold gate cut of 5 or more.
The Dillman Ranch Commercial Bred Heifers were all born and raised on the Dillman Ranch west of Grassy Butte. All of the heifers were ran on the ranch and were rotated on a rotational grazing system. The whole group was AI’d on June 4th to sire MLK CRK Express 9127 and HRR Franchise 8211 and cleaned up with LOT 2 from the 2025 Heart River Ranch catalog, HRR Navigator 4236. The cleanup bull, HRR Navigator 4236, is a son of Ridge Navigator 0039 and a half-brother to some of the bulls in this sale. This bull was only out on the heifers for 50 days. All the heifers are extremely gentle and easy to be around, Frankie and Katie have been very strict on culling for feet, udders, and disposition. Here is a real nice set of moderate framed heifers that should work in any program.
If there are any questions, contact Katie at (701) 218-0113 or Frankie at (701) 290-7297 Vaccination Program:
