Bulls will be kept until April 1st, 2022, then we will contact you to arrange a delivery date. If you are unable to receive them in April, feeding arrangements can be made at buyers expense. Bulls will sell in numerical order starting with Lot 1. If you are unable to attend the sale, bulls can be bought online using Frontier Live Sale or via telephone by contacting any Sale Day Representative.
Breeding Season Guarantee
Full Breeding Season Guarantee (90 days from turn out) on bulls purchased for $2500 or more. If a problem occurs, we will give you a suitable replacement bull if one is available, or you will receive full credit minus the salvage value at next year’s sale. Notify us of injury as soon as possible on all bulls. We reserve the right to a second opinion by the veterinarian of our choice.

Hello from Gnerer Angus! It is snowing as I write this! All of us are looking forward to and praying for more of the white stuff and abundant rain over the whole region. It is the second full year of these terrible dry conditions and we know that things are going to look up in the moisture department. The cows bred up despite the lack of good green forage and we are so pleased. It is a little over 2 weeks into calving and we are half way calved out. The cows and calves alike are doing great on the limited, lower quality feeds we have available and the efficiency of our herd is shining through. The harsh terrain of Southeastern MT paired with the ever present up and down drought conditions are a constant battle the ranchers in this area face. But on that same note we are thankful for the unrelenting perseverance of the good Angus cattle we raise. Low input, fertile, and functional cows equals profit for us and the ultimate goal of profitability for our customers. We have several sires represented this year. There are lots of options and we believe all good ones. A few embryo bulls are available in the offering that will bring in some outcross genetics to our long time customers. Driving the science of better breeding There’s little room for error in the cattle business. Producers need the most advanced information to make smart selection decisions, and Angus Genetics Inc. (AGI) provides it through genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs). GE-EPDs have become the industry standard for herd improvement, building on decades of science-backed genetic evaluation tools originated and maintained through the American Angus Association®, home to the largest and evergrowing single-breed beef cattle database. EPDs that traditionally contained all pedigree, performance and progeny information now also include results from available genomic, or DNA, tests. P ERFORMANCE LEGEND Birth Weight (BW) – Actual birth weight
that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.
Adjusted 205 Day Weaning Weight (AWW) – Standard weaning weight adjusted for age of dam.
Carcass Weight (CW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Expected Progeny Difference (EPD) is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the respective breed’s database. EPDs listed in this catalog were obtained from the breed associations, and they are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into the National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an “I” and may or may not include the animal’s own performance record for a particular trait, depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary grouping, or data edits needed for NCE. Please keep in mind that EPDs can change each time breed associations update their data. EPDs should not be used to compare bulls of different breeds.
Marbling (MARB), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Ribeye Area (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Fat Thickness (FAT), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. $Value Indexes are multi-trait selection indexes, expressed in dollars per head, to assist beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. The $Value is an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires in the database if the sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment.
Birth, Weaning, Yearling and Milk EPDs are expressed in pounds of calf. Differences in EPDs between two bulls within the same breed indicate the expected difference between their calves. A bull with a weaning weight EPD of +40 would be expected to produce calves that averaged 10 pounds heavier at weaning compared to calves produced by a bull of the same breed with a +30 weaning weight EPD. The same is true for birth and yearling EPDs. Milk EPDs are an indication of the added weight at weaning of a bull’s daughter’s calves due to the bull’s transmission of milking ability.
Weaned Calf Value ($W), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk and mature cow size.
Calving Ease Direct (CED) is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.
Beef Value ($B), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.
Birth Weight (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Limousin Mainstream Terminal Index ($MTI) predicts genetic differences in profit per carcass by combining the potential for and value of post-weaning growth, quality grade and yield.
Weaning Weight (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
*Adj. % IMF – The percent intramuscular fat (marbling) adjusted to 365 days of age. Heritability of marbling is in the moderate range.
Yearling Weight (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Winston 2165 was the second highest selling bull at the 2016 VanDyke Angus Bull sale. He is a quiet, complete, and long bodied Churchill 1063 son out of DFA Hero 6017. With a CED of +12, he is a proven calving ease sire with muscle to back it up. Winston produces a uniform, perfectly proportionate, excellent calf crop. Before the 2020 VDAR Sale Tom Wulf took us out on the ranch to see 568’s dam, VDAR Beauty 43210. It was love at first sight. She is deep, wide based, fleshy, feminine and her udders were perfectly uniform. We used 568 extensively and he has been a rock star calving ease sire who transmits his muscle and completeness. His females should be outstanding with perfect feet and udders like their granddam.
We purchased this Cedar Wind 8111 son at the 2019 VanDyke Angus sale. You can not help but to love the VDAR Cedar Wind 8111 offspring. They are gentle, complete, and beautiful, the bulls and heifers alike. These bulls will be great to use on heifers.

Showdown 505 was the first Bull to sell at the Van Dyke Angus 2020 Bull Sale and was our favorite SHOWDOWN son.
