Welcome to our 2021 annual bull sale. We are truly thankful that we made it through 2020, and we have high hopes for 2021. We hope this note finds you and yours healthy and in good spirits for better times to come. Now on to the bulls. This is our most consistent pen of bulls to date. We weaned 93 bull calves at the end of September. Which is about a month earlier than we typically wean. Between an early weaning date and a tolerable winter without a huge snowpack, the bulls have been able to develop almost stress-free. It definitely shows! The bull crop offered in this sale are the top-end of those 93 bulls, as we made continuous cuts to the bull pen along the way. The bull nutrition was done by Jack Sieban of J&R Feeds. We fed the bulls using a high-roughage ration, much as we’ve done in previous years. Jack does a great job helping us properly develop the bulls and get them ready for sale day. We appreciate the work he does for us throughout the process! Our goals for both our bulls and our cows haven’t changed. We continually strive toward consistency in our herd. We want eye-appealing, structurally-sound cows that produce a quality calf every year. We pay attention to the numbers, but we are not looking to blow any of the numbers through the roof. While we realize that data is important, we also know that the numbers are only part of the equation, and they are one of the many decision-making tools available to ranchers. We also continually monitor the docility of our herd. We love our cattle, and ranching is truly a family affair for us. We want our kids to have the opportunity to enjoy our cows as much as we do. In the market for bred heifers? At Garrigan Land & Cattle, we sell a package of home-raised, home-developed, and home-bred commercial Angus heifers at Faith Livestock each winter. These heifers come straight from our own cow herd and are backed by our own genetics. Stop by the ranch anytime if you are in the market for bred heifers, and we’d be glad to show you what we have to offer. We typically AI our heifers with a due date of February 25th for one day, and then they are cleaned-up with our bulls for 45 days, with a due date beginning March 15th. They are split into short calving intervals.

Every year, we have a younger bull that has to come to the front of the sale order simply because he’s “that good!” This is that bull in the sale this year. At not quite a year of age and almost two months younger than most of his contemporaries, he still demands attention. Another bull that’s phenomenal across the board who’s sired by a bull we raised with a lot of great progeny this year. (*He was too young to ratio his carcass data when he was ultrasounded.)
