FROM THE DESK

Amy Peltier

Fall always has a way of making home feel a little different. The light changes, the mornings get cooler, and I find myself naturally drawn to richer colors, softer textures, and the simple things that make this time of year feel special. In this issue, I’m sharing a few things I’m loving right now, from autumn-inspired moodboards and color combinations to ideas for hosting. There are also a few fall recipes I’ve been wanting to make, along with some of my current obsessions that have found their way into my home and everyday life. A little inspiration for the season ahead, wherever you’re enjoying it from.

A Look Inside

My Fall Moodboard

This season I’m influenced by a warm and rich palette. Chocolate tones and caramel hues meet moody blues, while red marble and organic murals bring a sense of depth, movement, and old-world charm. These colors and textures come together in a way that feels relaxed, collected, and ready for cozy days at home.

Autumn Hues Fall is all about embracing richer, warmer color. Deep blues, caramel tones, chocolate browns, and earthy burgundies bring depth and coziness into the home, while soft blush and creamy neutrals keep the palette feeling balanced and inviting. Layered together, these colors create spaces that feel warm, collected, and full of character. Perfect for settling in as the season changes. All colors are from Benjamin Moore.

A Fall Gathering

Fall in California looks a little different. There’s no need to cover the table in pumpkins or lean too heavily into traditional autumn colors. Instead, we love bringing in the feeling of the season through warmer textures, natural materials, and a little more glow. Think a dinner outside as the sun starts to set, candles flickering across the table, warm wood tones, layered linens, and a table that feels collected rather than overly styled. Whether you're hosting a casual dinner with friends or gathering the family around the table, these five details can make your home feel ready for fall without losing that easy California spirit.

1. Bring in Warmer Tones Skip the traditional orange and rust. Caramel, chocolate brown, warm taupe, and natural wood bring fall's warmth into your home in a more subtle way.

2. Let the Lighting Do the Work As the days get shorter, lean into softer lighting. Turn off the overheads and bring in table lamps, sconces, and plenty of candlelight.

3. Layer the Table Mix natural textures like linen, woven placemats, wood, ceramic, and brass. The result feels warm and inviting without looking overly seasonal.

4. Bring the Outdoors In Look to nature instead of traditional fall decor. Branches, greenery, dried florals, or a bowl of pears add an effortless seasonal touch.

5.Make It About Gathering The best part of entertaining isn't the table setting. It's what happens around it.Set out a cocktail before dinner, put on a favorite playlist, serve something that can be passed around the table, and don't worry about making everything perfect. A California fall gathering doesn't need pumpkins, plaid, or a house full of orange. Sometimes all it takes is a little warmth, beautiful materials, good food, and a table set for people you love.
