In a child’s life, a father occupies a position that is equal only to that of the mother. Some fathers show their affection by educating their children, teaching them valuable life lessons, skills, trades, or simply offering advice about the world, while others pursue less of a mentoring role and engage on a peer level by participating in various activities together with their child.
No matter how a father shows his love, their sacrifice and hard work have been a power in most of our lives since earliest memory, and there is no better time to appreciate it than now, with Father’s Day just around the corner. In the vast majority of countries, father’s day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June, and where Mother’s Day celebrates all things maternal, Father’s Day honors all things
paternal. But where did this tradition come from, at least in the United States, and how did it become what it is today?
In the past, fathers have almost always been celebrated in some way, especially the feast of St. Joseph, husband of the Virgin Mary. However, the origin of Father’s Day in the US revolves around the story of a Civil War veteran who raised 5 children by himself after his wife died in childbirth with the sixth. Sonora Smart Dodd, one of those children, proposed that fathers also receive a similar holiday following the selfless acts of hers and others around the world. First celebrated on June 19th, 1910, Father’s Day became a properly acknowledged national holiday in 1972 following recognition from US President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1924, and the date has been shared with many other countries since, all deciding to adopt it in turn.

However, it’s not just biological or direct fathers who are honored on this day. Grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, and all others assuming parenting or caring male roles are celebrated also. And, naturally, sons and daughters are not the only ones making specialized gifts and wishes for the occasion. Determined to make her wish heard, Dodd used the enthusiasm of tobacco and clothing manufacturers to take her holiday across the country and across the world. Before long, the trend caught on as other companies recognised it as a worthy opportunity, so that Father’s Day marketing, greeting cards, and wishes were spreading all across the world with not time at all. Naturally, this continues today, where sales on Father’s Day in the US alone are estimated to bring in over 15.5 Billion dollars!
So, as the date for acknowledging all things fatherly approaches, send them some love in the form of a message, a phone call, or even a nice pair of socks. Your father might be a teacher, a friend, or a helper, but regardless of what they do, they are first and foremost your father. Appreciate them while you have them, keep safe, and have fun!
“A father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love shows us the way.”

Peel Region - Whether you’re looking to buy your first home, or trading up to a larger one, there are many costs - on top of the purchase price - that you must figure into your calculation of affordability. These extra fees, such as taxes and other additional costs, could surprise you with an unwanted financial nightmare on closing day if you’re not informed and prepared.
Some of these costs are onetime fixed payments, while others represent an ongoing monthly or yearly commitment. While not all these costs will apply in every
situation, it’s better to know about them ahead of time so you can budget properly.
Remember, buying a home is a major milestone, and whether it’s your first, second or tenth, there are many small but important details, not to mention stress and excitement, to deal with during the process. The last thing you need are unbudgeted financial obligations in the hours before you take possession of your new home.
To help homebuyers understand what these extra costs are, and in what situations they
may apply, a free industry report has been prepared called “13 Extra Costs to Be Aware of Before Buying a Home.”

Peel Region - If your home has just come off the market and hasn’t sold, don’t be discouraged. The reason your home did not sell may have nothing to do with your home or the market. In reality, your home may have been one of the more desirable properties for sale.
Last year many of the homes listed for sale never sold at all, and many sellers found that there was a tremendous amount a homeowner needed to be educated on to sell their home for top dollar in the shortest time period. Don’t risk making the wrong choices and losing both time and money on your investment. Before you hire a realtor, know the right questions to ask to save you time and money.
Industry experts have prepared a free special report called “How to Sell a House that Didn’t Sell” which educates you on the issues involved.
