SERMON OUTLINE SELF-CONTROL THAT WINS 1 Corinthians 9:19–27
Self-control is not about constraint but freedom. What are you doing with the freedom Christ has given you?
1. FREE TO CHOOSE You don't have to follow every impulse. “I have the right to do anything”— but I will not be mastered by anything. – 1 Corinthians 6:12 “I have the right to do anything”— but not everything is constructive. – 1 Corinthians 10:23
2. FREE TO TRAIN What you practice shapes who you become. “Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training.” – 1 Corinthians 9:25a “Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.” – 1 Corinthians 9:26
3. FREE TO GIVE The purpose of freedom is love. “Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.” – 1 Corinthians 9:19 “They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.” – 1 Corinthians 9:25b
