1. Joy endures after a time of wrestling with the big dilemmas of life.
The name Habakkuk comes from a Hebrew verb “to embrace.” The idea could mean a friendly embrace (as in Ecclesiastes 3:5). In Habakkuk’s context, it could be seen as an embrace in a grappling match. One of the key features of the book is Habakkuk’s wrestling with God about concerning things in his world.
2. Joy exists, even before the blessing arrives.
“Though the fig tree does not blossom and no fruit is on the vines; though the produce of the olive fails and the fields yield no food; though the flock is cut off from the fold and there is no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord.”
– Habakkuk 3:17-18a
3. Joy is our spiritual traction in uncertain times.
“God, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer and makes me tread upon the heights.” – Habakkuk 3:19
