SERMON OUTLINE

JOY THAT CRIES OUT

Luke 19:28–44

The difference is not in what they saw, but in how they saw.

1. Joy Shouts—when the King is recognized

“…the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: ‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

– Luke 19:37–38a

“…people spread their cloaks on the road.”

– Luke 19:36

When you recognize the king, you lay things down and lift your voice.

2. Joy is Stifled—when control is threatened

“Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, rebuke your disciples!’”

– Luke 19:39

“‘I tell you,’ he replied, ‘if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.’”

– Luke 19:40

You can try to silence the song, but you cannot stop the King.

3. Joy Sobs—when salvation is missed

“As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it…”

– Luke 19:41

“…you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

– Luke 19:44

The king who receives their shouts, still weeps for their hearts.
