GOODNESS THAT GIVES
Mark 10:17-31
”Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first.” – Mark 10:29-31
The Good Life can’t be earned.
Culture says the good life is about projecting my image and the gospel says the good life is about being formed into his image. Ultimately the good life is not rooted in our financial status because the good life does not reflect what we have done.
The Good Life reflects God’s character.
Goodness like all fruit of the Spirit flows from the character of God and he calls us to reflect that goodness back into our world to give a world filled with a lot of bad a glimpse of ultimate good. That is how we get a glimpse of the kingdom-through the goodness of his people.
The Good Life is contagious.
The good life is not simply “being a good person.” It is living your life now as a sign of God’s future—the new creation, where justice, mercy, love, holiness, and joy are fully restored. Its joining Christ daily in the restoration of all things.
The Good Life comes through surrender.
But a life that reflects the goodness of God can never be earned it has to come by opening our hands believing that the really good life is the life lived at the center of his will. That is not a life we earn its one we surrender.
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”
– Jim Elliot
DEACON MINISTRY at peachtree
We believe one of the ways Christ cares for his church is through faithful men and women who serve others with compassion, encouragement, and prayer.
Thatʼs why we are honored to reintroduce a Deacon Ministry at Peachtree. Following the example of the early church, Deacons serve as ministers of care, helping ensure that no one in our church family is overlooked or alone.
In a congregation the size of ours, a healthy Deacon Ministry helps ensure that Christʼs care and compassion reach throughout the church.
Deacons might serve in many ways, including praying for members of our congregation, serving communion to homebound members, visiting assisted living communities, writing notes of encouragement, and supporting our hospitality ministry by welcoming people on Sunday mornings.
Do you know a member of our church who demonstrates spiritual maturity, has a heart for others, and a desire to serve? We invite you to nominate individuals you believe may be called to serve as ordained Deacons.
