SERMON OUTLINE
A PRAYER TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF COMPARISON
How Envy Corrupts
Dissatisfaction and Bitterness
But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong. They are free from common human burdens; they are not plagued by human ills. (vv. 2-5)
When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered, I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you. (vv. 21-22)
What Worship Does
God’s Presence: Perspective, Guidance, and Glory.
When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny. (vv. 16-17)
Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. (vv. 23-24)
When God is Enough Strength and Inheritance
Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. (vv. 25-26)
Daily Dwell: August 24
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. - Psalm 73:26
Peachtree Church has been richly blessed by the remarkable ministry of the Rev. Dr. Chuck Roberts. Serving first from 1989 to 1995, and again from 2005 to 2025, Chuck has invested 26 years of his life and calling into the life of this congregation. In his early years, under the leadership of Dr. Frank Harrington, Chuck was charged with helping “grow” Peachtree, and he did so by pouring himself into the Singles Ministry at a time when Atlanta was booming. Countless couples who are part of Peachtree today first met through that vibrant ministry.
When he returned in 2005, Chuck once again gave himself fully to the mission of this church. He launched the Ironmen Men’s Ministry, which has discipled, challenged, and encouraged thousands of men over the past two decades. He has led mission trips to Guatemala year after year, as well as pilgrimages to the Holy Land, Scotland, and Italy. Always reminding his colleagues of the importance of healthy rhythms of life—often with the memorable line, “The hungry shepherd eats the sheep”—Chuck has modeled a pastoral presence marked by wisdom, humility, and encouragement.
Across these years, Chuck has stood with this congregation in some of the most meaningful moments of life and faith. He has officiated more than 400 weddings, over 200 memorial services, and baptized thousands of children. He and his wife, Lib, have shared in the joys and sorrows of this church family with grace and steadfastness.
As Chuck marks his 42nd anniversary of ordination this week, we give thanks for his extraordinary tenure of friendship and service, and we celebrate the legacy he leaves in the lives of those he has taught, shepherded, and encouraged.
We thank God for the Rev. Dr. Chuck Roberts.
