7pm | The Sanctuary

PRELUDE | “O Sacred Head” | arr. Jason Krug

CHORAL INTROIT | “Give Me Jesus”

OPENING HYMN | “O Sacred Head Now Wounded” Hymn #811

O sacred Head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down; now scornfully surrounded with thorns, thine only crown; how pale thou art with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn! How does that visage languish which once was bright as morn!

What thou, my Lord, hast suffered was all for sinners’ gain: mine, mine was the transgression, but thine the deadly pain. Lo, here I fall, my Savior! ‘Tis I deserve thy place; look on me with thy favor, vouchsafe to me thy grace.

What language shall I borrow to thank thee, dearest Friend, for this thy dying sorrow, thy pity without end? Oh, make me thine forever; and should I fainting be, Lord, let me never, never outlive my love to thee.

Dear Lord, whose covenant with us is never broken, we confess that we constantly fail You, and refuse to do what is right.

Though you have bound yourself to us, we will not bind ourselves to you. In Jesus Christ you serve us freely, but we turn our backs on your love, and we withhold ourselves from others.

We do not love you fully, or love one another as you command. Have mercy on us and cleanse us; lead us once again to your table and unite us to Christ, even as we continue our confession in silence . . .

CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE

“Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” | Hymn #10

Oh, to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above!

CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE

“When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” | Hymn #818

When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of Glory died, my richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride.

Were the whole realm of nature mine, that were a present far too small; love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.

THE SHADOW OF BETRAYAL | MATTHEW 26:17-30

“Last Supper” | by Cindy Morgan

This is the body that was broken: take and eat

This is the blood shed for many: take and drink—Amen And it will cover you, and make you new—O Jerusalem

I know we’ll be together someday again O how I’ll miss these moments with you my friends I know we’ll be together eternally

And I will be there waiting—come home to Me Come home to Me

And when darkness comes Reach for Me, O Israel, O Israel

I know we’ll be together eternally And I will be there waiting—come home to Me Come home to Me

THE SHADOW OF SUFFERING | MATTHEW 26:36-46

“Who Is This?” | by John Ferguson

Who is this who walks among us? Who is this who speaks such words? Is it Moses, or Elijah, or some prophet of the Lord?

Can we name this suffering servant? Can we name the promised sun?

Can we name the heir of David? Jesus, hidden, holy one.

You are Christ, from God eternal! Living God, from human womb, our deliverer and redeemer, known by cross and empty tomb.

THE SHADOW OF ARREST | MATTHEW 26:47-56

“Jesus, Lay Your Head In the Window” | arr. Moses Hogan

Jesus lay your head in the window, and hear some sinner pray.

The wind blows east and the wind blows west, it blows like judgement day. And every soul that never did pray will be glad to pray on that day.

Jesus lay your head in the window, and hear some sinner pray.

Oh Lord, please hear my prayer. Jesus lay your head in the window. Please forgive me, for I have fallen short of Thy glory. Jesus lay your head in the window. Please Lord, deliver me.

Jesus lay your head in the window, and hear some sinner pray.

THE SHADOW OF TRIAL I | MATTHEW 26:59-68

THE SHADOW OF TRIAL II | MATTHEW 27:11-31

“Here is Love” | arr. Matt Redman

Here is love, vast as the ocean

Loving kindness as the flood

When the Prince of Life, our Ransom

Shed for us His precious blood

Who His love will not remember?

Who can cease to sing His praise?

He can never be forgotten

Throughout Heaven’s eternal days

On the mount of crucifixion

Fountains opened deep and wide

Through the floodgates of God’s mercy

Flowed a vast and gracious tide

Grace and love, like mighty rivers

Poured incessant from above

And Heaven’s peace and perfect justice

Kissed a guilty world in love

No love is higher, no love is wider

No love is deeper, no love is truer

No love is higher, no love is wider

No love is like Your love, O Lord

Here is love, vast as the ocean

Higher, wider, deeper

Here is love, vast as the ocean

Here is love, vast as the ocean

Here is love, vast as the ocean

“Sing

| by Fernando

Come and see, look on this mystery

The Lord of the universe, nailed to a tree

Christ our God, spilling His Holy blood

Bowing in anguish, His sacred head

Sing to Jesus, Lord of our shame

Lord of our sinful hearts,

He is our great Redeemer

Sing to Jesus, honor His name

Sing of His faithfulness,

pouring His life out unto death

Come you weary and He will give you rest

Come you who mourn, lay on His breast

Christ who died, risen in paradise

Giver of mercy, Giver of life

Sing to Jesus, His is the throne

Now and forever He is the King of Heaven

Sing to Jesus, we are His own

Now and forever sing for the love our God has shown

Sing to Jesus, Lord of our shame

Lord of our sinful hearts

He is our great Redeemer

Sing to Jesus, honor His name

Sing to Jesus, His is the throne

Now and forever He is the King of Heaven

Sing to Jesus, we are His own

Now and forever sing for the love our God has shown

to Jesus”
