s we head into the peak of BC’s wildfire season, demand for firefighting resources – air tankers, heavy equipment, firefighters on the ground – will put pressure on the supply of same. So should Peachlanders, with large fires already burning in the province, feel confident that the BC Wildfire Service has the resources to handle a major wildfire here during peak fire season? Yes, they should, said Shaelee Stearns, fire information officer for the Kamloops Fire Centre, which includes Peachland. Resources are moved quickly between the six provincial fire centres and zones within them,

said Stearns. “If one zone is in like a higher fire load, has more fires on the board or higher hazard, that’s also something that’s shared throughout our region, looking at where to allocate those resources as needed,” she said. Dale Bojahra is the senior wildfire officer of preparedness at the Kamloops Fire Centre. He said the Wildfire Service is well-prepared for the season and is built to get firefighting staff and equipment to where a fire breaks out. “We have excellent resource capabilities.
