reating Peachland’s Climate Action Plan was like a house renovation project. No one knew how big the job would be until they opened up a couple of walls. The District of Peachland’s Climate Action Task Force was assembled in late 2023 to create a climate action plan for Peachland. But the complexities and scope soon became apparent and what began as a nine-month mandate turned into a two-and-a-half year project with three extensions,

said Peachland Councillor Rick Ingram, who chaired the task force made up of Peachland residents. “It’s reflective of the scope of the topic, what we learned along the way, and the fact that almost everybody on the task force has a separate full-time job. People are doing this in between all the other responsibilities that they have in their lives,” said Ingram. “It was thought to be a nine-month project when people signed on at the end of 2023, and by the time we’re done it will be two and half years.” Ingram said the plan is needed because there can be little doubt that climate change is impacting the town. “We’re at a point where we are starting to feel the effects of climate change already in Peachland and the Okanagan and the world in general,” he said.
