Thank you to everyone who joined us at Fish Island Village in Hackney on Saturday 9 May to celebrate, share feedback, raise concerns and speak to local teams.
Residents came along to meet Peabody colleagues, the local neighbourhood team, the police and Tower Hamlets Council, while enjoying games, activities, soft play, a bouncy castle, matcha and ice cream.
FIVRA also held their Annual General Meeting during the event, encouraging residents to get involved and have their say about what happens in and around their homes.
We know things haven’t always been good enough and residents have told us where we need to do better.
We’re working more closely with the Fish Island Village Residents’ Association and residents to improve how we communicate, listen to feedback and involve residents in decisions about neighbourhoods.
There’s still work to do, but thank you to everyone who came along, asked questions and shared feedback.
New faces at the concierge
At the start of June we welcomed MPD FM as our new concierge service, following an appointment process which included representatives from Peabody and FIVRA.
We are excited about this new partnership and look forward to continuing to enhance the concierge service you receive
We’re working on setting up a dedicated email address for the concierge service, so you can get in touch over email as well as by visiting the office at Phare Court or calling on 07811 417220.
At the end of July we’ll be sending out a survey about the new concierge service. We’d greatly appreciate your input in this survey, so we can understand what is working well and what can be improved.
Hawk service at Glow Court
As mentioned in previous newsletters, we’ve been working with specialists to look into short- and long-term solutions to ongoing issue around Glow Court where some seagulls are nesting.
After discussing with specialists, the decision was taken to employ a hawking service to disperse the seagulls. This is because other methods of detering the seagulls, such as netting, was likely to result in the gulls moving to other areas of FIV rather than settling elsewhere.

Ark Pest Control have been visiting Fish Island Village up to twice a week to provide a hawking service
The team are using a Harris Hawk and have reported that this has been successfully dispersing seagulls at FIV.
The team are expecting to carry out around 57 visits, with visits happening more frequently until the nesting season ends in late summer. This should hopefully deter the gulls from continuing to settle on the rooftops at Fish Island Village.
Gulls are a protected species and this approach is in line with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
Recent flooding at FIV
In late May, a significant leak caused flooding across parts of Fish Island Village.
It affected the car park, gym, communal areas and lifts in Adansbeck Court and Gaslight Court.
We recognise the disruption this caused and thank residents for their patience.
All affected areas have now been thoroughly deep cleaned by specialists.
All the lifts damaged by the flooding have now been inspected by Andwis. The lifts in Adansbeck Court are now back in service, and we expect final repairs to the lifts at Gaslight Court this week.
Our surveying team and contractors LMAC have reviewed the damaged areas in the basement and work will be underway shortly to repair the ceiling and surrounding areas.
We’re continuing to work closely with United Infrastructure (previously known as United Living) and all contractors to ensure remaining works are completed as quickly as possible, as they are a priority for the team.
Heating and hot water
Over the last few months we’ve been carry out surveys and works to heat interface units (HIU’s) across Fish Island Village.
We are nearing the end of these recommissioning works across all blocks, and will be carrying out some further testing once this is finished.
Thank you to everyone who has helped our teams by providing access to your homes for these works. We will keep you updated once these works have finished and further tests have been carried out.
Landscaping next to Hertford Union Canal
Works have now started to fix the uneven pavement by the canal. As part of these works, the sand under the paving will be replaced with mortar, which will create a more even, stronger and longer lasting base
This work is being carried out by Hill in ten stages, to make sure that residents living in the blocks closest to the works are able to access their homes. We expect this work to take around eight weeks.

Repairs to light fixtures
Following reports of external lighting becoming loose, or suffering from water damage, we’ve asked our contractors to survey the whole external lighting system at Fish Island Village.
It is likely that multiple fittings will need to be removed and refurbished. This will be done in a phased manner over the next few weeks.

We know that, given the openness of the estate, not all of this is caused by pets of residents living in FIV. We would like to politely remind everyone to please be respectful of your neighbourhood, as we know many of you already are.

Planting
The planting of trees, shrubs and other greenery is expected to take place over the summer and into autumn.
We’re expecting for the first plants and shrubs to be delivered by the end of July, with planting taking place soon after.
So, keep an eye out for new greenery appearing across your neighbourhood.
Fish Island Village gym
Thank you to everyone who took part in the recent Fish Island Village Gym survey, your responses have been very helpful to understand what changes residents would like to see.
Our Contracts Manager, Jacqueline Hardiman, is working with your Neighbourhood Manager Selorm on the procurement of a new gym contract.
We’re looking forward to collaborating with FIVRA, alongside a focus group, to help shape a service that best meets residents' needs.
