Fish Island Village - October 2025

Security Update On Wednesday 8 October, a focus group of residents met with your Neighbourhood Manager and members of the MET Police Bow East division team to discuss safety at Fish Island Village. Topics included crime prevention, parcel theft, and ideas to improve safety around the neighbourhood. The Met Police praised and encouraged residents to keep reporting incidents via 999 and METENGAGE. This really helps to inform local policing decisions, including allocating resources.

Little Book Stop Launch On Saturday 13 September many residents gathered at Hertford Union Canal Lock for the launch of the Fish Island Village Penguin Little Book Stop. Cinzia, a resident at FIV applied many months ago to have the Little Book Stop installed and it was wonderful to see the community come out to celebrate. The result is a beautifully designed booksharing box filled with a mix of children’s and adult literature; which runs on a take a book, leave a book basis. Cinzia opened the event by sharing the story behind the Book Stop, followed by Peabody’s Neighbourhood Manager, Selorm. Babyccinos were served by a resident with support from local restaurant Inis, who provided tables and chairs. Storytime was led by another neighbour, who read ‘The Book With No Pictures’ to children by the canal. However, you may have noticed that the Little Book Stop has been temporarily removed. This is due to a small issue with the fixing of the front glass panel, so Penguin have picked up the Little Book Stop and returned it to their workshop for a quick repair. It’s expected to be returned in a few weeks time.

Following feedback from residents and FIVRA, discussions are underway to set up a local ward panel. This would give residents a regular space to raiseSecurity concerns directly with Peabody, the police, Update and the local authority. If you would be interested in this, please get in touch with your Neighbourhood Manager or Resident Association. We’re also pleased to share that car park security has been improved. The gates have been repaired and fitted with tamper-proof mesh. Automatic lights, which activate when movement is detected, have also been put in.
