Fish Island Village - December 2024
Meet your team: Steven Gibson Area Manager Estate Services I’m Steven Gibson, Area Manager Estates Services. I lead multiple Estate Services Teams, including the team for Fish Island Village. As a team, we aim to deliver high quality communal cleaning and estates services. We work closely with many other teams to keep Fish Island Village running. We have had a very busy year on the development. We have had some ups and downs, but overall hopefully more ups than downs! Throughout the year we have welcomed new members to the team, as well as said goodbye to some old friends. As the end of the year approaches, I’d like to take the opportunity remind all our residents of a few tips and bits of information which will help us all to keep Fish Island Village a clean and pleasant place over the holiday season and beyond. You can find this information in this newsletter. All of the estate service team would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

Disposing of waste and large items Bins and Waste Collection Black Bins are intended for general domestic waste. Rubbish should be placed into these bins and shouldn’t be left on the floor in the bin rooms. Pink Bins should be used for recycling. Boxes should be folded down before being placed into the bins, as unfolded boxes take up space that could be used for other pieces of recycling. Please do not put polystyrene in these bins, as it contaminates the recycling. Tower Hamlets Council has a helpful A-Z Recycling Guide if you aren’t sure what can and can’t be recycled. Domestic Black Bins will be collected on Monday 23 December and Recycling Bins will be collected on Tuesday 24 December. The holiday period can lead to changes in when bins are collected. You can check the schedule online on Tower Hamlets Council’s website using your postcode at Check Your Waste and Recycling Days
Bulk waste and large items Large items such as sofa cushions, or clothes, shouldn’t be placed into these bins. Placing these items in the bins will mean that the local bin collection team will class them as contaminated and won’t empty them. Tower Hamlets Council offer 2 free bulky waste collections of up to 5 items per household every year, which can be requested online, arrange a bulky waste collection. Have a chat to your local team about where is best to leave your items for collection.
Christmas Trees When it’s time to take down your Christmas Tree residents are encouraged to put their trees next to the Caretaker Workshop, where the Tower Hamlets Waste Collection Team will collect it. Please try to reduce the number of needles dropped when bringing the trees down by using a bag.
