Welcome to the first edition of your new local newsletter. With around 700 homes and over 1600 residents, your home in Leytonstone is a busy and ever evolving community.
As a resident of Leytonstone , you’re also part of the wider community of people living in over 3000 Peabody homes across Waltham Forest.
This newsletter aims to keep you up to date with information on what’s happening in the neighbourhood and in your area. Here you'll find updates from resident association meetings, updates on maintenance, and key dates to remember.
You’ll also hear about fun activities and events across the borough, alongside spotlights on your local Peabody team and neighbours. There will also be some helpful tips about what support is available to you as a Leytonstone resident.

Meet the team
Shenelle Smile, Neighbourhood
Manager
I’m Shenelle Smile, and I’ve been working as a Neighbourhood Manager in Leytonstone for 13 months. I also have 5 years experience within the Housing sector. I look after neighbourhoods in Leytonstone, including your local area.
My role varies from day to day, but is focused on supporting residents with tenancy related issues and enquiries. This includes tenancy changes, repairs, estate inspections and any other general enquiries.
We have recently been working on a project in the Leytonstone area aimed at strengthening collaboration between Neighbourhoods and other departments across Peabody.
The goal is to create a more unified and cohesive working environment that enables us to provide the best possible support to our residents
Being able to support residents and make a meaningful difference in their lives is one of the most rewarding aspects of the role.

We’ve worked with to residents at Union Close who told us that rubbish was building up in the neighbourhood and that more support was needed to keep shared spaces clean and tidy.
Together with the local community, we looked at ways to improve waste disposal and make it easier for everyone to do their part.
As a result, we installed new Paladin bins across the area. A Paladin bin is a large outdoor rubbish bin that can hold more waste and is easier for waste teams to empty.
By listening to feedback and taking action, we have helped reduce litter, improve the appearance of the neighbourhood, and create a cleaner, more welcoming place for everyone. You said, we did New Paladin bins

Removing bulky waste and reporting flytipping
With summer underway we know many of us are looking to create more space inside and out by getting rid of items we no longer need. Sometimes this includes larger items which can’t be put inside the usual waste bins.
The Waltham Forest Rubbish and Recycling
Team can help you if you have large or bulky items, electrical goods or garden waste to dispose of. You can book a collection online and the team will remove five large items for free per collection booking.

Items left in communal areas, including by bin stores, might also be considered flytipping.
While fly-tipping is usually thought of as large items like fridges or mattresses, even leaving a single black bin bag where it shouldn’t be could be fly-tipping.
If you have noticed fly-tipping in your area, or see someone dumping rubbish, we ask that you please report this to the council online. The council will aim to clear the rubbish within 24 hours of the report, although hazardous waste may take longer, and investigate who left it which could result in a fine of £750.

Championing Her Game
