Meet your local team

Neighbourhood Manager: Shayna Boyd-Newell

We know that having someone local to talk to can make all the difference when you want to know something or have a problem.

Your Neighbourhood Manager, Shayna, is here for you to provide support and connect you with the services you need to keep safe, secure and comfortable in your home. They are available for you to speak to Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

About Shayna:

I’m Shayna and I’ve been working as a Neighbourhood Manager in Chingford Since December. I previously worked in L&Q doing a similar role, which has given me strong experience in supporting residents and managing neighbourhood issues. I look after Neighbourhoods in Waltham Forest, including your local neighbourhood in Chingford.

My role varies from day to day, but my main focus is supporting residents with tenancy related issues and enquiries. This includes successions, estate inspections, tenancy reviews, and addressing any issues that may affect the safety or wellbeing of residents

A real highlight of my job is getting to know residents and working together to make our neighbourhoods feel safe, supported, and well cared for.

I really enjoy building relationships with people, understanding their situations, and being able to make a positive difference in their day‐to‐day lives. Every conversation helps me understand the community better, and that’s something I genuinely value.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need support, advice or just a friendly chat. You can contact me at Shayna.boydnewell@peabody.org.uk

Thursdays are the best day to drop by the office without an appointment to speak with our team. This helps us make sure we can give you the time and full attention you deserve, as well as prepare any information and resources that you may find helpful.

For visits on any other day of the week, you can get in touch using the contact details at the end of this newsletter, we’ll be happy to assist.

If you need to raise a repair or get help with an issue, you can also get in touch with the Contact Centre by calling 0300 1233 456 or filling out an online form at peabody.org.uk/contact-us.

Community Hub temporary closure

The Salisbury Manor Primary School Community Hub will be temporarily closed for 8 weeks from Monday 16 February. This is some of Peabody’s corporate partners can complete works free of charge to improve the space that we recently helped bring into community use.

We know the hub plays a big role in everyday life for many residents. All hirers and community groups have been contacted, and temporary venues have been arranged where possible. More details can be found in the What’s on in Chingford section of this newsletter.

An update from Emily, Principal of Salisbury Manor Primary School

We are excited to let you know that work to improve the Salisbury Manor Community Hub will begin on Monday 16 February. Thanks to Peabody’s corporate partners these works are being completed at no cost to the School. These partners are Greyline, FFT, Peabody Group Maintenance, Purdy Contracts, Milverdene, Bluelime and Fixatex.

The upgrades will help make the Hub safer, brighter and more accessible. They’ve been designed with the groups who use the space and will support an even wider range of community sessions in the future.

The Salisbury Manor Primary School Community Hub will be closed for around 8 weeks while the improvement works take place. The hub will be closed from Monday 16 February, and is aiming to reopen during the week beginning Monday 13 April.

We're proud that the Community Hub has offered around 35 hours of free activities every week since opening in September. We're excited to see what we can achieve together once these works are completed.

We’re working with our partners to keep activities running where possible. You can find full details of these temporary arrangements on the next page.

Warm regards, Emily Curtis, Salisbury Manor Primary School Principal

Charge Safe London Fire Brigade e-bike and e-scooter safety advice

On average there is a fire from a lithium battery in an e-bike or e-scooter every two days in London.

Whilst e-bikes and e-scooters offer a great way round the city, if the batteries become damaged or begin to fail they can start incredibly ferocious fires within seconds.

The majority of fires related to e-bikes and escooter have happened in homes. These fires are often caused when charging batteries.

When these batteries are charged in communal areas or escape routes, a fire breaking out can quickly block people’s ability to escape.

Many of these fires are caused by incompatible chargers, modifications to e-bikes, or faulty or counterfeit products which are purchased online. This includes chargers, lithium batteries and conversion kits for e-bikes

London Fire Brigade’s #ChargeSafe campaign wants to prevent fires in e-bikes and escooters.

Please visit their website to find out important and simple safety tips to reduce the risk of fire to protect you and your community. london-fire.gov.uk/safety/lithiumbatteries
