Welcome to our 5th Annual Bull Sale
A
s we sit down to kick off our 5th Annual Bull Sale welcoming comments, it is +6 degrees out and the calves are kicking up their heels in the sunshine. Following the fall calf sales all the cattlemen are kicking up their heels too. Finally we can feel some relief from the pressures of where we have been. With that we say “Welcome!” and “Thank you!” for joining us here to view our catalogue. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all our previous bull buyers and bidders. You make what we do all worthwhile. In our opening comments 5 years ago at our first bull sale we said, “The light at the end of the tunnel is now getting brighter.” Today, 5 years later we can say “We have seen the light!” We have added some video footage to the sale this year which you will be able to view online prior to the sale. This will assist you in your decision making. We are also hosting an open house this year on February 28th from 1 – 5 (come and go), in advance of the sale. We hope those of you who may not be available to come sale day will join us to view the bulls and talk to us about what you need to benefit your Charolais/Charcross calf crop. As it has been a long standing practise for us to seek out the best genetics in our females and our bulls, we think we may have the most consistent bull pen from top to bottom, and we ho pe you think so too. With strong culling practises, a balanced nutritional
T
ration, and attention to character traits, we are proud to present this year’s bull pen. Once again, our girls have gone out and done a damn fine job putting together your 2015 bull sale selection. These bulls before you today have a variety of traits you will be looking to put on your calf crop. We have easy calving bulls with strong performance return for your heifers and some performance bulls for your mature cows. We have white, red, tan with lots of hair and good testicle development. Confirmation is a priority to us with a strong top line, thick, deep through the core, lots of muscle through the hind quarter with really good dispositions. As Charolais breeders we are seeing the benefits of the Charcross calves in the auction barns and have received phone calls from other breeds to discuss their intent to switch over to Charolais bulls. This is truly a tribute to where we have all come with the Charolais breed. Aside from the Open House and bull sale day, you are invited to come to the yard at any time before the sale to go through the bull pen at your convenience. Coffee’s always on and visitors are always welcome. Elder Charolais Farms back our guarantee on our bulls. If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact us to discuss them. Our ultimate goal is to provide you as producers, return on your investment.
his is the 5th sale for the Elders and what a pen of bulls they have for you this year. If you can’t find a new herdbull you like here, you aren’t looking very hard. The top of this pen has some exciting genetics for the purebred producers looking for the next great one and solid sire groups that will compliment any commercial operation. The Elders have spared no expense to buy the best bulls and females they can to improve the quality of the bulls they sell and the quality of their cowherd. They have purchased flushes in some of the great cows in Canada and you get the opportunity to select from the results of these matings. This is a video sale at the Elder Charolais Farm with the atmosphere calm and hassle free. The hospitality provided by the four generations that greet you is also excellent. If you haven’t used a Charolais bull before, you need to give it a try and see the advantages that crossbreeding will give you. Once again, the Charcross calves were setting the standard for the feeder sales last fall and with the number of producers putting Charolais bulls on their black cows, we are going to see the silver revolution put money in your pocket. Quality and performance will always top the market and starting with the best bull battery you can, will pay you dividends for many years. If Candace or I can be of any assistance before the sale or on sale day, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We would be happy to help you find a bull that is right for your program. Sincerely, Helge & Candace By • By Livestock • Tel 306.584.7937 Cell 306.536.4261

Tartan needs little introduction as his sire, TR PZC Mr Turton 0794E, is the hottest AI sire on the market right now; with this calf possessing a super clean front end, with great structure, super temperament, all in an eye appealing package. This bull is very clean in his lines with a strong set of feet and legs. On the dam side, who can forget the excitement Wood River Princess 13Y brought to the breed in the fall of 2012 when she sold as a bred heifer for $32,000. We purchased a flush in her immediately. Tartan is a flush-mate to our KLR Princess 359B Heifer Calf, the National Junior Heifer Calf Champion at Brandon last fall. Consider this a golden opportunity for your next calf crop. retaining 1/2 semen interest.

Reference Sire Elder’s Wahkamo 919W Homozygous Polled Wahkamo has consistently produced a calf crop with character traits that are desired in building your herd. Wahkamo is homozygous polled. He is a moderate framed bull with the thickness and structural soundness you need in a herdbull. He moves out easily, has exceptional temperament, and sound feet with good testicles – performance on 4 legs. His calves deliver hair, length of spine, depth of rib and will pay dividends in the auction barn. The Wahkamo daughters we have in production have good udders with ample milk. His dam goes back to a cow that has been a major influence in our Charolais herd. CE 56 | BW 4.2 | WW 39 | YW 90 | M 28.8 | TM 48

Reference Sire Grant’s Playboy 3X Double Polled Playboy is a strong topped, good footed bull. Playboy is deep sided with a great temperament. He is undoubtedly the easiest calving herdsire we have ever owned. He is a moderate framed bull and moves out well. His calf crop has added lots of strength to the bull pen with lots of hair. If calving ease is your requirement, Playboy calves will fit the bill. CE 100 | BW -3.3 | WW 33 | YW 38 | M 15.9 | TM 32
Reference Sire Sparrow’s Nixon 111Y 3rd Generation Polled Nixon is sired by the Winn Mans Lanza bull. He has added performance to the calf crop without sacrificing calving ease.
