Taxidermy is meant to honor and preserve the dead, not to exploit blatantly It would've been more suitable to build a statueinMali’smemoryratherthanobjectifyherremainsin a place where she was deprived of freedom her whole life But what’s been performed cannot be undone, and despair will be forever painted across her face The last best thing we can do is to treat her with respect; it would be better to transfer her to the National Museum, rather than let the Manila Zoo continue leeching off her, even after a lifetime ofcaptivity

According to the Swiss Re Institute, 75% of households in developing countries, such as the Philippines, have no preparedness for monetary loss if one of its breadwinners loses his life The pandemic exposed these vulnerabilities since hundreds of thousands of breadwinners lost their lives due to illnesses and left the family emotionally and financially shattered Renato Vergel De Dios of BDO Life emphasized that many breadwinners live as if they are invincible, ignoring the possibility of sudden illness or death With no other forms of financial preparation or a protection plan like life insurance, the family faces all the vagaries of life naked Breadwinners sacrifice everything, butwhentheyleave, theirfamiliesoftenhavenothing

hy does it always seem that our society tends to lean more on men? “Men are better, menaremore
reliable Most might say that both genders already have equal rights but beneath the facade of equality, is a subtle change in treatment between menandwomen, anditstartsathome withyourparents
I've experienced this firsthand Growing up with an older brother and idealistic parents was hard, both of us were treated differently in the sense that they were mostly stricter to me than to my brother This difference in treatment wasn't just personal, it reflected the societal standards and normsthatfavormen
I blame societal standards, especially in a modest conservative country where men were given more freedom in the past Women weren’t allowed to vote and were only taught to be at home and serve their husbands We’ve subconsciously adopted the strict mindset that women should be prim and proper, with little to no opinion, men on the other hand, are expected to be strong, opinionated, andagreatleader
This brings the concept of double standards As the dictionary says, double standards refer to a set of principles containing differentprovisionsforone groupof people than for another, especially an unwritten code of sexual behavior permitting men more freedom than women It’s the perfect definitiononemightsaytotheraisingconcern
Double standards in gender are not easily solved, it’s something that is further evolving, I evoke knowledge in people about this concern We dont live in a world where everything is equal behind there are still traces of inequality, something that is not much spoken about I desire a world with equality, and breaking social norms canbeattainedwithproperknowledgeandmindset Thefutureissetforusonwhatmaybecomeandit’sinour handstomakeitbetter

With its former secretary, VP Sara Duterte, admitting to rely on DepEd experts due to her lack of “education background,” that will then, after only 2 years on the job, resign from the position and leave the sector askew with its weak implementation and initiatives for seeked development departing while her demanded review of the K-12 Curriculum still taking its precious time, on the works the country’s education system slowly reflects a diminishing and fragile foundation oflearningforFilipinostudents

a testament of DepEd’s oblivious goals of only appearing as “functional,” but never effective All of these faux intentions to recover from past PISA scores and rank higher does not help the sector in any aspect Educational setbacks are created by the country’s own system and its vulnerable, straying focus on matters that are actually in need of saving and attention increasing educator’s salaries, enhancing curriculums to be shaped based on the immediate requirements of students, encouraging educational accessibility, as afew
Nonetheless, seemingly perfecting the capabilities of students for the sole purposeofachievingglobalacademicstandardsisnotasincerestepofaction to development at all In fact, solely committing to unfinished projects to appear merely “better” only proves how the Department of Education fails to uplift the genuine essence of learning One step forward, and a dozen more steps back does not justify the amount of challenges the country’s education systemhastowithstandduetoauselessdrivetobeinternationallycompetitive instead of aiming to be transparently structured and well-ordered A tower only deteriorates if its roots and walls are feeble their objectives of creating greaterlearningspacesforstudentsareonlyeverheard, butneverfelt

hen you ask Filipino teenagers how they are doing, the typical response is “I’m fine” or “It’s okay ” But beneath these seemingly confident replies liesa hiddenreality of stress, anxiety, and pressure. In a culture that places immense value on academic success, many students masktheir struggles in an attemptto meetsocietal expectations. The relentless pursuit of high grades, constant comparisons with peers, pursuit of high grades, constant comparisons with peers, and the fear of disappointing families create an environment ripe for burnout and mental health issues that are rarely addressed Inasocietywheresuccessisdefinedbyacademicachievement, theemotional tollonstudentsisoverwhelming,leavingthemquestioningtheirself-worthandtheirfuture beyondtheclassroom

This pressure does not just exist within the four walls of the classroom; it extends to all areas of a student’s life It is in the quiet moments when they check their grades or lay awake, stressed over the next exam It is in the comparisons made with classmates, the nagging sense of needing to do better, and the exhausting chase for validation In a society thatoftenmeasuressuccessintermsofgradesandhonors, studentscanbegintofeelasif theirworthisreducedtothenumbersonareportcard
