WHY CHEETHAM?

The Cheetham Hills Sports Club is more than just a sports club; it’s a hub for the local community.

We are located in the heart of a residential community adjoining the Lord’s Cricket Ground. Our grounds are pristine, and our neighbors can even see excellent hits from their gardens.

You may have first heard of our club in the landmark Bolton v. Stone.*
*We were previously known as the Cheetham Cricket Club. Under our new name, we are proud to announce new safety initiatives for our community.
WHAT CHANGES HAVE WE MADE?
REASONABLE PERSON
Over a 30-year period, no injuries previously resulted from balls being hit over our fence.
Given this, if harm was foreseeable but the odds of injury were very small, a reasonable person would not have done anything differently.
7’ FENCE
Still, our team of experts carefully weighed marginal cost (the incremental cost to implement an untaken precaution) and marginal benefit (the incremental benefit to implement an untaken precaution) to ask: was the precaution not taken by us negligence or cost-justified?
Ultimately, we settled on building a 7’ fence.

REPETITIVE PRECAUTIONS
We also encourage the public to take repetitive precautions, such as looking around for airborne balls, before walking outside.
Stop, look, and listen!
Legal Disclaimer: While every effort is made to keep play safe at Cheetham Cricket Ground, spectators and neighbors should be aware that cricket is a game played with a hard ball that may occasionally leave the field of play. Under the law of negligence, liability arises only where a reasonable person would foresee a substantial risk of harm and fail to take reasonable precautions. In light of the ground’s protective measures and the extremely rare occurrence of balls clearing the boundary, Cheetham Cricket Club cannot be held liable for every stray shot.
COMMUNITY TESTIMONIALS
