Hello, June! And goodbye, May. May was a typical month for Gold Coast region. Our bi-annual dine and drive to Triad Seafood over in Everglades City occurred on May 6th. All who attended had way too much Stone Crab but had a great time eating it and visiting with Porsche friends. The premier event of the month, though, was Zonefest in Tallahassee, Florida on May 27-28. Zonefest provided an opportunity for members of Zone 12 (and particularly those in Florida) to gather and engage in all things Porsche. It was fun for the whole family. If you couldn’t attend, please try to make it next year!

My personal thanks to everyone that helped to put on all of the May events. GCR would not be what it is without you. We have a number of Porsche-related events lined up for June. On June 10, please join us for Autocross and that night, our Pot Luck social at one of our member’s homes. We are expecting great musical entertainment for the social, even better than last year’s event. If you can make it, please do! On June 17-18 there will be a Le Mans viewing party put on by Porsche of West Broward. It’s endurance racing at its best and you won’t want to miss it. To finish off the month, try to make it out to My Big Fat Greek PCA Lunch.

As usual, Porsches & Pancakes is on the first Saturday of the month. Please take some time to join other Porsche fans and talk about your favorite subjects: your car and Porsche! Also, we have our Thursday Socials on the third Thursday of every month where you can do the same thing! Please check your e-mails and the calendar on our website for updated times and locations. ummer is here. You can tell by the beautiful sky shots at our first annual Classic Concours D’Elegance that we were blessed with wonderful weather. We have really been lucky with perfect weather at Amelia Island, Sebring, and the Stone Crab Drive and Dine. I hope you are taking advantage and giving your Porsche plenty of exercise. As we head into the warmer months more indoor events have been planned along with our drives to provide you a cooler experience. Please join us and enjoy the variety of events. If you attended the Classic Concours event you noticed a change from high level detailing and judging of cars to a more relaxed approach with a people’s choice that all attendees voted for. The trend is moving to the relaxed concours

style but we will also hold full competition and judging at several events so we can provide training for national PCA events. The Classic was a great event that will grow as we go. Peter and the board are already planning for next year. Items being reviewed include location, time of year, car classes, charity, and entertainment. Thank you to Peter and his team. It takes a lot of volunteers to run a successful event like the Classic. Not many PCA club magazines are able to provide the in depth coverage of our event like we are in the Kassette. Because of the companies that advertise with us each month we are able to produce a full color magazine that compares to some of the large regions with a staff of writers, photographers, editors, and many other

positions. We are different. We have a staff of one but we have great support from our members that provide articles and photographs. Thank you to all that send your material. I hope you enjoy reading about all of our events and the contributions from our members. While you are enjoying your summer vacation if you would like to share your Porsche experience, please submit a one page article along with photos. The other members will thank you for sharing. When rumors of the R first came out I knew that was the car I had to own. It was made for me. I was the purist this car was made for. Little did I know how rare and how exclusive this car was going to be. And how good. I had just bought a GT4 and felt the same way about it. But the R is another level. The ultimate drivers car. Pure unfiltered, unadulterated experience. Pure fun. A throwback to the way Porsche was meant to be. But better! And absolutely gorgeous! Only 991 were built but only about 250 are here in the states. So I am one of the fortunate few that have experienced driving the R. I am very grateful for the opportunity I have had. This R came in the classic white with red stripes. Main options were the single mass flywheel, front axle lift system, Sport Chrono package, wheels painted in black, LED lights in black, sport design exterior mirror in carbon fiber, Auto dimming mirrors, Bose Sound System, and to fill up the hole in the middle, the no cost options Navigation module and Air Conditioning. The huge Ceramic Composite Brakes are standard. The key option in my opinion is the Single Mass Flywheel. I have driven extensively the new GT3 RS with the same 500 hp engine and this car feels faster and with better throttle response. More alive. The GT3 RS will give you faster lap times, is faster 0 to 60, has more downforce, and is more forgiving. It is perfect. But not for me. The R is more engaging, makes you work more, and of course you actually have to shift!

And the sound it makes is intoxicating. Totally seductive. Porsche has removed most of the sound deadening material and you hear everything! Lovely! I don’t even turn on the Bose system. I just want to listen to the car. It is music! Comparing the R to my GT4 is another matter. The R is a road car, the GT4 is a track car. But driving both makes you appreciate the GT4 more. What value! Totally different experience but equally rewarding. The GT4 of course is not as fast and is a mid engine layout. I have driven it on the track and there’s nothing like it, especially for the money. My only criticism of the R is that the clutch is too soft. The GT4 has a better clutch feel. Harder and more mechanical. Better. I feel the shifter is also slightly better. But the gearing is way different. The GT4 has too tall gearing where the R is perfect. Driving the R in 6th gear feels like you are in 5th instead. Feels like you have another gear. And tremendous torque! Unbelievable! The GT4 because of the tall gearing feels like you are already in 6th gear when you are actually in 5th. I rarely go to 6th gear. Only on long highway trips. Under 100 MPH you are in 4th or 5th. Both the R and GT4 have a SPORT Mode button which activates the throttle-blipping function. During downshifts, It gives me perfect heel and toe like a pro. Who can tell? Unfortunately I am still in the break in period, so I have not been able to

push the car to it’s red line limits of about 8600 RPMs. I really have to control myself not to rev it over 4200 RPMs. It’s very hard! Even though sometimes it just goes over by itself! So I’m trying my best to get it over 2000 miles. The tech gurus at Porsche have said to adhere to the break-in period for better performance and longevity. They highly recommend 2000 miles of break-in or 3000 miles if you are going to track it. So I drive it every weekend. And I will keep on driving both the R and the GT4. These cars are to be driven to enjoy them. And I do! My final comments are these: Unfortunately I feel most of the owners of this car will keep them in the garage afraid of anything happening to their investment. They won’t drive them much. This car is not for the meek. If you want comfort and luxury, this type of car is not for you. If you don’t enjoy shifting, forget it. If you don’t want to hear noise, buy a Mercedes. If you feel this car fits your criteria and complained last year that it wasn’t fair that Porsche did not build more and only the rich folks with 918s could get one, stop crying and buy the new GT3. It is not a limited production. Better engine, probably faster, looks wicked and you can get the same manual tranny as the R. For less money! It is probably the best Porsche right now, until the new GT2 comes out later this year. Another Widow Maker! Get your check books out again! Enjoy your Porsche experience. There is no substitute!

A DAY AT THE PARK The Gold Coast Region is large and diverse. Extending from Key West in the south, through the Palm Beaches and Stuart in the north. The length of the Region makes it sometimes inconvenient for a member to attend an event taking place in the opposite end of the Region from home. It’s because of this that most events are local in nature. Events in the south are attended by those in the southern end of the region, and the same holds true for northern events. This is really not a problem for a multiple day event such as Zonefest, where you will be spending more than one day, but can be a burden for a one day event like a Concours. For several years the Club has held “Porsches by the Bay”, which has become the Club’s signature Concours event. This event held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, next to Biscayne Bay, offers an unmatched site and a stunning group of Porsches to be enjoyed. But some of the feedback heard by the Club is that being in Miami, it’s a long trip for members in West Palm Beach and further north. The end result is we get great turnout from the southern part of the region and less turnout from the north. More than two years ago the Board of Directors started to discuss having a second Concours event in a more central location that would be convenient to both northern and southern ends of the region. But like a number of things in life, that’s a lot easier said than done. You see, the requirements for a location are quite stringent. The location needed to be somewhat centrally located in the region. It had to be a scenic location that was a beautiful backdrop for the cars. We wanted grass not a parking lot, space for public parking, space where trailers could be unloaded and parked, hotels located nearby, easy public access, and a show field large enough to

hold a hundred cars with room to grow, and most important, reasonable cost. It would also be convenient if it had easy access from major highways. We were lucky enough to find a place that not only met all the above requirements, but gave us more. That led to the creation of the first Gold Coast Classic Concours D’Elegance at Plantation Heritage Park in Plantation, Florida. Planning for the Classic started back in mid-2016 and it was envisioned as a full Concours event in the manner of “Porsches by the Bay”. But, over the last year we have seen a change in the hobby. People are moving more toward car show type of events as opposed to a rigid judged Concours. The more I went to events and the more I spoke to members, the more obvious it became that our members just wanted to have fun with their cars. Unfortunately, it was too late to change the flyers and advertising for the Classic, reinventing it as car show, so we had to go with something in between. It was called a Concours but was run as a regional car show. That brings us to April, 8th 2017, the inaugural Gold Coast Classic kicked off at 8:00 AM with weather that can only be found in South Florida in April. Sixty plus Porsches appeared on the show field with another 40 in the non-display parking area. The cars covered the entire range of Porsche cars, ranging from a large contingent of 356’s, to outright race cars and everything in between. Take a look at the photos, but understand that they just don’t have the same impact as being there. Along with the cars we had great food from the food trucks that attended the event, and additional vendors on the field. We had music playing all day provided by a DJ Vance that enhanced the enjoyment

of the day. We had 11 Classes that were judged with the first and second place winner chosen by People’s Choice Ballot. One car chosen from the Class winners was awarded “Best in Show”. This year that honor went to a beautiful 911R. One area where we dropped the ball was the length of time it took to tabulate the ballots. We had produced 300 ballots and distributed about 200 of them. When setting up the voting process we did not plan on the tabulation time required to determine the winners. We now had a possible 2,200 votes that had to be tabulated and checked before winners could be determined. Dottie Kidd and her helpers in registration did a great job, but were understaffed for the job. Live and learn, next year we will be prepared! Let’s talk about next year. This year’s event was a tremendous success that will be used as a template for next year. We will improve on what went well, and correct what didn’t. What won’t change is the location, we could not be happier with Plantation Heritage Park. We will be expanding the classes, adding more non Porsches, increasing the number of awards, and adding additional entertainment. We will also look to increase the food trucks and vendor’s areas. We will be establishing a goal of doubling this year’s turnout in cars in the show and increasing the number of general spectators attending the event. To those that entered, thank you and I hope you enjoyed yourself. For those parked as non-entries, step up and join us on the show field in 2018. Last but not least, I extend my thank you for all of you that volunteered your time to make the Classic the success it was.

From the Members; Concours Review My love for Porsche sports cars started a long time ago. I just didn’t know it at the time. I just never knew that I would one day own one, two, three, and now four of them … I think for me my love that I didn’t know I had for cars all started when I was a kid at the robust age of 4. Hanging on my bedroom walls were 4 or more classic cars. For birthdays, Christmas, Easter, etc… any reason to get one, if I achieved “A’s” or got a goal in soccer, my family rewarded me with MatchBox cars and that grew into a collection of the finest sports cars. Well, at least to me they were! My dad was also appreciative of various classic cars and sports cars. At one time he owned a beautifully-stunning white Rolls Royce Cornich Convertible with tan leather and my mom loved her white Mercedes Convertible, and SLC as she would say. But the first real sports car they owned was a Datsun 240Z, bright orangish-red with white interior! I still love the humps on the dash for the gauges! That dash should and will always be in style! It wasn’t until I was at the ripe age of around 10 years old, where I found out about Porsche or should I say, Porsche found me! The first Porsche that I fell in love with was the 914-6 with the 5

Star Fuchs and the first time I saw one was actually at the wood car derby at my elementary school where my neighbor had carved one to painstaking perfection and painted it midnight blue with the 5 star Fuchs. But for whatever reason, these cars did it for me. Then, seeing the 911 variant run away next, and the movies that soon followed, that featured such cool 911s like the movie “Class” with Rob Lowe driving a red Porsche 911SC Cabriolet, July 6th, 1983…Then only one month later, August 5th, 1983 debuted Tom Cruise in “Risky Business” featuring the scene of scenes were he takes out his dad’s champagne Porsche 928 all over town to impress a girl and delivers the perfect line at the perfect time… “Porsche…There Is No Substitute.” Which we all have repeated years later, hundreds of times, have we not?!?! A show that is still talked about over 3 decades later. Next, was the movie “16 Candles” that came out on May 4th 1984 featuring a gorgeous Porsche 944, painted in breathtaking Porsche Guards Red, followed immediately by next years, “Weird Science,” August 2nd 1985 that featured the incredibly desirable V8 powered black Porsche 928S peeling away from the mall with the hottest of girlfriends,

Kelly LeBrock, in the passenger seat but only a moment after she kisses the driver! Come on…who wouldn’t want one or two Porsche 928’s after that scene?!?! You call that, Insurance!! Ha…You’re guaranteed to land the woman of your dreams! In seeing life go before my eyes as I enter the final years in my forties, I thought how much I enjoyed my Match Box collection and how so many cars get wrecked, junked, painted, become rust buckets, wrapped, tracked, stolen, joy-rided, re-painted God forsaken color combinations with interiors and exteriors that would kill the designers in Stuttgart, Germany if they saw them, etc… Okay, you get the point! I thought, it’s time for me to hand pick my favorite Porsche Classics, keep them maintained to perfection, and start my childhood dream of owning an awesome collection of my favorite Porsche automobiles. So I started that dream about 8 years ago when I purchased a James Dean looking 1956 550 Spyder replica and then had a new engine rebuilt sporting 175hp. It was fun for 4 years, but it wasn’t “Porsche OEM Factory” quality, so I sold it…so that was that. Bucket list CHECK ! It wasn’t until 3 years ago when I

decided my first Porsche for the “Collection,” was going to be the Porsche 928S4. I wanted a Silver Metallic 928GT, but couldn’t wait any longer to find the perfect one since the near perfect 928S4 in Silver Metallic came along, 38,500 miles, (purchased from a collector in Bradenton, FL) and that took me over 12 months to find!! I wanted an Automatic transmission because for that kind of classic sports car with V8 power, it was cool to hold your drink in one hand while the other one is on the steering wheel, and you’re cruising around in style to the golf course or the country club or wherever. Not having to fiddle with shifting through gears! Next up, one year ago, I found my Guard Red 1987 944 Turbo, 53,000 miles, (purchased from Houston, TX where it spent it’s life, and owned the past ten years by the pilot that flies the owner of the Dodgers Baseball team), and I wanted a Turbo because I had one 20 years ago in my twenties and it was a sleek, sexy, and FAST! A car that was way ahead of its time! Whoa!! Then last year, around this time, I saw a pristine conditioned 2000 Porsche Boxster with only 19,000 miles for sale in exactly the Silver Metallic, Black Leather combination, and updated Porsche Snowflake Wheels and lower profile tires, and it had the 4-spoke leather steering wheel that I liked better than the 3-spoke. So I bought

it. I wanted the old-school style Boxster without all of the changes…more of the original lines! The Boxster is truly the best valued Porsche for the money and no wonder with so many manufactured since 1997. Next, I’m eying the right Porsche Carrera/911 and am stuck on whether to buy a 997.2 or a 991, but definitely manual transmission, and it must be black or dark grey! Any ideas?! Okay, flash forward to now. I became a member of PCA because I wanted to enlighten my Porsche senses to the max and be around others locally that really appreciated the “Classic Porsche” sports cars. I wanted to be around these cars and the owners of well-kept Classics, and see the “best of the best” of Porsche Classics locally. And there’s an incredible amount of pristine cars and even “Concours’ Quality Show Cars” locally that you just wouldn’t be able to see, unless you were part of the PCA family. I’ve been a member of PCA now for just over one year, and I’ve had a blast attending various events, attending the monthly Cars And Coffee in Plantation FL at Kristoff’s Café, and other events in and around South Florida. On April 8th 2017 Peter Olliviere hosted the first Porsche Classic Car Show and the attendance was spectacular! Well done Peter! And well done for owning a classic 928S4…in Black…and kept to perfec-

tion! The Classic Show was a tremendous success and many are already making reservations for next year! There was such a variety of Porsche classics: from the early 1950s 356 Speedsters,1980s 914s, 911SCs,Targas, 964s, 993s, Turbos, 928s, 944/Turbos, all the way up to modern day 996s, 997s, 991s and a highly desirable and limited edition 500 HP 991R with the pretentiously-sleek red striping down the top! Everyone was very pleased and everyone left with a huge grin! For me, it was neat to walk around, scrutinize the quality of various Porsche variants, and enjoy learning more about the characteristics of specific Porsche models from some of the most informed and experienced Porsche owners in the world. Every time I go to one of these events, I leave learning more about my own cars than I knew prior. What’s even neater is the PorscheCopiousness that I’ve developed, maybe it’s my nemesis or maybe it’s my entrepreneurial attitude, in that I leave wanting another one, and then another one, and then another one for my collection… fellow Porsche friends know what I’m talking about right?! However, my wife is telling me to not attend too many events next year! But that’s okay, I responded to her… “Sweetheart…PORSCHE…There Is No Substitute!” Is there not…LOL

Autocross Update

By all accounts, Auto X event 3 on April 22, at BBT was a picture perfect event. Speaking of pictures, check out some of the candid shots and captions on the opposite page. The event started with presentation of the 2016 series awards...these are the folks that did at least 4 events (most did 5 or 6 ) and acquired enough points to beat the rest of their class. These class winners are real competitors and come to most of our autocrosses and know that seat time is one of the main ingredients to getting better. We had a surprising number of newcomers (18), who all got great instruction and kept improving each run. Thanks are in order to Paulo Munoz, from Porsche of West Broward who not only came to the autocross to participate, but also brought an additional tent and water to help support the event. We love our sponsors and supporters and really appreciate the assistance. As many of you know GCR autocrosses give more runs than other clubs, who provide 3,4 or 5 runs....we organize our events so competitors get at least 8 runs and our events are always praised at the level of organization and assistance provided to newcomers. Thanks as always to the core group (Jake,Juan Carlos,Ty and Joaquin) that help out Dottie and I to make these AX events safe, fun and challenging. Just so you know, all Porsches are welcome at our AX events. We have a good representation of old and new, 4,6 and 8 cylinder, front ,mid and rear engine configuration and totally stock to modified. Also, at this event, we had a 1971 911 and 4 1980s vintage cars (3 944’s and a 911). All these cars had respectable finishes and the 2nd oldest car was driven by a gal who won ladies FTD. It is rumored that one blue 944 was the the 2nd fastest Porsche and a top 5 finisher despite it’s age and basically stock configuration. The second generation Boxster (987) came to the US market as a 2005 model, together with the 997 Carrera.

than it is to make a hardtop and Porsche was the only car maker placing its convertible below the hardtop in pricing. This would last into the 2017 model year when Porsche finally decided to correct the pricing structure of its mid-engined platforms by selling the Cayman for a bit less than the Boxster.

It was a revamped version of the original and although the interior and exterior were all new (Porsche claims that 80% of the 987 was new) the engines and transmissions were for the most part a carry-over from the 986, albeit with the obligatory and customary year-over-year modest bump in performance for both the base (2.7 L now with 237 HP) and the “S” version (3.2 L now with 276 HP). One of the main differences between the engines was that the M97 engines now sported the larger single row IMS bearing that is not replaceable without cracking open the engine case. They also differed in that the M97 engines have a mechanical vacuum pump and an electronic oil management system which did away with the oil dipstick.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Let’s look back to model year 2007. The interior and exterior remained mostly the same, but the engines now offered the VarioCam Plus which squeezed a bit more horsepower from the powerplants (241 HP for the base and 291 HP for the “S”).

For model year 2006 the BIG Boxster news was the introduction of the Boxster coupe: The Cayman. Porsche decided to place the Cayman higher above the Boxster in price and therefore offered a bit better engine performance than its sibling. This didn’t make sense because it’s more expensive to make a convertible

power plant. Nevertheless a new transmission, the Doppelkupplunggestribe or double clutch PDK with 7 speeds became an option on both Boxster versions.

Up to now the engines were still considered 987 type engines with an Intermediate Shaft (IMS). This engine together with its predecessor, the 986 which also shared the same basic design and IMS and had been plagued with engine failures and Class Action Lawsuits, were now being replaced with a brand new design without an IMS: The 9A1 type engine. From model year 2009 through 2012 these cars are known as the 987 Gen II. And again, as customary, Porsche had been bumping up performance year-overyear. The 2009 base offered 255 HP while the “S” now had 310 HP. Performance (zero to sixty times) would also improve by 0.3 seconds with the PDK and Sport Plus options. With the introduction of the 9A1 engine Porsche was getting ready for another revamping of the Boxster. That happened in model year 2013 with the introduction of the Boxster 981, but that’ll be detailed in The Boxster Story, part 3. Again, as customary, the factory offered several Special Edition cars: 2007 - RS60 Spyder. Only 1960 units were made. This car celebrated Porsche’s 1960 overall win of the 12 Hours of Sebring with the 550 Spyder. Offered with a Carrera GT Silver exterior and Carrera Red interior and top. Many options came as standard in the package. The engine had 300 HP and the MSRP was $64,900

2008 - Limited Edition. Offered in eyecatching GT3 RS Orange exterior and Alcantara and orange-accents interior. 250 base cars and 250 “S” cars were produced and offered at $49,900 and $59,900 respectively. This Special Edition Boxster has been one of the most popular Boxsters and considered by some as one of the top 15 most desirable Porsches. 2008 - Porsche Design Edition 2. A very restricted production run of 500 cars. Only 50 of them were destined to North America (USA 32, Canada 18). This version was offered in Carrera White, two-tone black/grey interior and light grey stripes on the exterior. It had basically the same performance specs as the “normal” production cars. MSRP: $66,900.

Adventures of your Zone 12 Representative

March Madness Part 2 I’m Back.... Last month I wrote about the busy world of being the Zone 12 representative in the first 2 weeks in March. This article will cover the last 2 weeks of March and add more tidbits about the excitingly hectic schedule of a PCA National officer.. We left off talking about Werks Reunion at Amelia Island and all the fun we had helping out at that event. We’ll pick up with the 3rd weekend of the month with one of the biggest races of the year....The 12 hours of Sebring and PCA’s participation. As many of you know, Porsche has been racing and winning at this race for many years and it attracts tons of Porsche owners to come out and cheer on their favorite marque. Under Ruben Ledesma (also a Gold Coast member), the Zone 12 representative back around 2000, organized the Porsche Platz concept, to give Porsche owners a more formalized place to hang out together. Circle back to a much more evolved Platz of 2017. With funding and support from PCNA (Porsche Cars North America) the PorschePlatz is, in my opinion, the best single marque corral at the 12 hours of Sebring. Why you ask?....In one word … volunteers. My single biggest job before the Platz starts was to organize a corp of willing volunteers to staff each shift and each station. This year when the call went out for volunteers we got an overwhelming response and shifts filled up quickly...Maybe it’s because it’s a really cool jig, or maybe because word has gotten out that the only way to get one of the event shirts is to volunteer and work! The PCNA shirts are spectacular, unique and given out to be worn when a volunteer reports for assignment. So next year if you want to join the volunteer team, respond quickly to the Zone 12 e-mail blast, buy your race ticket and join the fun.....And no, the shirts are not for sale at any price and their count is monitored. The Zone 12 email blast goes to all 10 regions in our Zone and hopefully we’ll see more volunteers from Gold Coast region in 2018. BTW, unlike Daytona, corral tickets are readily available, so if you want to park your car with all the other Porsches,

buy your tickets early and make sure you drive your Porsche to the event, as ONLY Porsches can park in the 200+ spaces. With volunteer lists in hand, Dottie and I set off for Sebring Thursday morning and went right to the Platz tent to help out our event partners.....PCA, PCNA, IMSA and the Sebring Staff. Thursday is about preparation...hanging banners, setting up tables and chairs, hooking up the TV’s and sound, making sure all needed supplies are on hand and double checking our readiness for the tent opening on Friday. That morning came all too early and volunteers were checked in, issued shirts and briefed again on their roles. While all the assignments are important, parking is one of the more critical to make sure only Porsches enter the corral. All Porsches have a Platz corral sticker rather than a general infield parking sticker and everyone plays nice....parking in a way to allow a maximum number of cars, and nobody takes 1.5-2 spaces. Another critical function that we set up early on is a greeter (some consider them bouncers) at the front entrance to make sure only PCA members or Porsche owners enjoy the amenities offered inside the tent. While not nearly as bad as at the Daytona Rolex corral, there are herds of “grazers” that go from tent to tent, foraging for food, drink, freebies, handouts, entertainment and entrance in raffles. Our volunteers welcome and direct PCA members and Porsche owners to the registration table and the “grazers” are re-directed to sites where the pickings might be easier. Moral of the story...bring your PCA membership card to the Daytona Rolex Corral or Sebring Porsche Platz. Saturday morning starts at 5:00 am with a trip to Dunkin’ Donuts to load up Dottie’s Rav 4 with enough caffeine and sugar to feed a small Army (we don’t have enough room in the 944 to handle this task or all the tubs of supplies we take to this event). The Saturday “Cars and Coffee” officially starts at 7:00 am, however we have volunteers on hand at 6:00 since members start arriving at that time. The

grazers most often are not morning people, so the coffee and donuts went to members and their guests who consumed everything by 8:30, just in time for the start of the track tour, limited to the first 100 Porsches, with a Corral pass, to arrive at the Platz. The rest of the day was of course racing, and for us coordinating presentations, giveaways, hot pit tours and raffles in the tents . Sunday was Zone 12’s Annual Presidents Meeting held this year at Lori Renzetti’s Garage Mahal in Lake Placid. Nine of the 10 Zone 12 Presidents or their stand-ins were in attendance, with special guests/speakers that included, Mark Halston from PCNA, Tom Gorsuch, PCA National Vice President and Lynn Friedman, PCA’s Platz/Corral coordinator, as well as a special Go to Meetings webinar presentation by PCA’s social media chair, Maggie Goodman Garnett. Thanks again to Lori for providing a great meeting venue and serving a home cooked lunch to all. While the Presidents were busy meeting, Dottie took the spouses and guests on a tour of the murals of Lake Placid. From Thursday morning to Sunday night there was never a dull moment. The final weekend in March may seem drab in comparison to Werks and the 12 hours of Sebring. A welcome relief to spend two days at Homestead with the only responsibilities being to instruct both days and promote Zonefest 2017. Hats off to the event organizers who put on a great Drivers Education and kept safety at the forefront Luckily, I had a great student who steadily improved throughout the weekend so my only real duty as Zone Rep was to make sure everyone got the word about Zone 12’s premier multiregional, multi-activity event. In addition to Zonefest other major Zone 12 activities include the Larry Wilson Tour collection and Oktoberfast.
