Join in the fun! Join your fellow Porsche Club of America members at the 62nd Porsche Parade on July 9-15, 2017. Parade is PCA’s annual, weeklong event enjoyed by several thousand of your fellow members, who will gather this year in Spokane, Washington. Parade participants will enjoy Driving Tours and a Gimmick Rally to explore eastern Washington’s mountain vistas and high desert, the Concours at Riverfront Park, an Autocross, and a Time-Speed-Distance Rally to test your competitive spirit. When you want to step away from driving, Spokane is a walkable city with awardwinning eateries, the Cork District tasting rooms, craft breweries, and boutique shopping. Bring the kids, too, as they’ll be kept busy with activities such as model Porsche Concours, RC Car racing, and an ice cream social (well, adults can join in the ice cream, too).

What, it’s April already???!!! March was an incredible month for Porsche events. The GCR picnic at C.B. Smith Park occurred on Saturday, March 11. Everyone had a great time just enjoying each other’s company and discussing their favorite topic, Porsche!! For those of us who love endurance racing, the 65th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring went off on March 18-19. Steve Kidd and his merry band of volunteers made the Porsche Platz the place to be at the race! Thanks to all who participated. Of course, the Driver Education (DE) event at Homestead Miami Speedway on March 25-26 with our friends at PBOC was a success as was the Instructor School that
occurred in the background of the DE. Making better drivers is what we do! As is typical, we have a number of Porsche-related “things to do” lined up for this month. On April 8, please join us at Heritage Park in Plantation, Florida for the first ever Concours D’Elegance. This event should prove itself to be one of the premier car shows in south Florida if our Concours Co-Chairman, Peter Olliviere has anything to say about it! On April 22, there will be an Autocross at the BB&T Center in Sunrise. There is no better way to learn car control than at an Autocross. Then, if you can’t get enough, a week later on April 29-30, we have a Driver Education (“DE”) event at Homestead Miami

Also, we have our Thursday Socials on the third Thursday of every month where you can do the same thing! Please check your emails and the calendar on our website for updated times and locations. has been at full speed since January. You might be puzzled by that statement. This year the GCR members and other members from Zone 12 supported operations in the PCA hospitality tent at the Rolex 24 Hour race at Daytona. A great way to meet other members and enjoy the race track side under a tent with a big screen TV to keep up with the commentary. PCNA also provided factory engineers to keep the members up to date with information on the latest Porsche technology. Another benefit of this event was to go into the garage area and see the crews working on the cars and the drivers practicing their driver change process. A great photo op and experience for spectators that have never gotten close to the operation of a world famous racing event. Our members had just enough time to refresh, pack their bags and head to Sebring for the 48 Hours of Sebring Club Race held the week following the Rolex. Some of the teams from the Rolex also partici-

pated along with 300 drivers from all over. The event turned out to have much better weather than Daytona and was one of the best run events to date. Next year will celebrate the 25th year of this event so plan on being a part of the largest club race in the world. No need to cover the details of this event since last months Kassette was dedicated with full coverage. The 48 Hours at Sebring web site and Face Book also provide coverage that is continually being updated. GCR started off our local events with the annual drive to Key Largo for a fantastic brunch at the Big Chill. Next up was the Concours College and Tech Session covered on pages 10-11. We also held an Autocross, a Drivers Ed, our Spring Fling picnic and supported the DRT Miami Car Show Charity in Miami. Thanks to Scott Duval who provided a great article and photos about the DRT event along with Alberto Pugliese who provided the cover photo, a page of photographs and the monthly Porschegraphy page from

the DRT. Producing the Kassette would be impossible without their help and the contributions from our members. Please continue the support as our region grows and the magazine continues to add pages, more Porsche material is required. On March 10th, PCA held the Inaugural Werks Reunion at Amelia Island. With around 670 Porsches it was a huge success. I have placed a photo below but will provide many more with an article and awards in a future issue. The following week was spent by many at the Sebring 12 Hour Race with outstanding weather. A gallery of photos from the Werks Reunion and Sebring have been posted to the GCR web site. Next months Kassette will feature the Sebring race. We have only completed the first three months of the years and life in the Porsche Fun Zone has been at full speed. 2017 Tech Session Presented by Gold Coast Region Sponsored by Foreign Affairs Motorsport by Bobby Varela
Some say detailing a car is as exciting as eating broccoli. We beg to differ. In fact, it takes some serious skills, knowledge and dedication before you can even attempt to detail your car well enough to enter any concours shows or competitions. Foreign Affairs Motorsport was the location for this year’s Gold Coast Region TECH Session and Concours School. And we used this opportunity to fully debunk the myth that car detailing and concours preparation is not exciting! Keeping your car looking like the first day you brought it home can be extremely satisfying. Read on to learn more about the pro detailing secrets we’ve covered in this TECH Session. And so it starts… With an enthusiastic crowd, our 3rd Annual TECH Session on Feb 18th started with a real bang. Foreign Affairs Motorsport had the honor of hosting this event at our shop in Pompano Beach, and we are ever so thankful for everyone’s support and attendance. We would like to extend a big thank you to the GCR Board & Committee, the volunteers, along with our guest speakers for coming out again this year. My team and I also wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to see some of the great machinery and projects we are currently building and restoring for our customers. On display was a 1982 BMW 320i stripped down to its bones for a full off-frame restoration, a Radical racecar dressed in a custom livery as its battle suit, and a host of other Porsches including a wide body Porsche 964 RWB. Our focus this year was the Art and Science of preparing your vehicle for concours shows. The amount of knowledge and achievements our GCR members have on the subject of concours competition is immense. And as our older members move on, there is a strong need to pass this knowledge to our newer members who will carry on the torch. Our Guest Speakers and Resident Concours Guru… We started in the morning with Peter Olliviere, our GCR resident concours guru and detailing expert. As many of you know, Peter’s expertise in this area is second to none. One look at his 968 Cabrio will convince you of his dedication in this area. Our guest speaker is Andy Ward from Proficient X Auto Detailing. Andy is a serious professional when it comes to achieving that fresh-off-the-showroom-floor look for your beloved ride. A live demonstration was given to illustrate how the process of Paint Correction can bring back the deep lustrous shine from a CLA250’s Black Opal finish. It was easy to see the contrasting differences on the two halves of the CLA250’s hood when the correct products and techniques were applied to one half to eliminate paint imperfections while the other half showed visible swirls and markings under bright lights.

Post-Paint Correction Auto Care Tips – secrets from Andy Ward, Proficient X Auto Detailing Washing Methods, the ‘3-Bucket’ Process Andy’s secret is to divide your wash into 3 distinct segments using 3 different buckets to reduce cross-contamination • Bucket #1: Vehicle Paint Cleaning. This bucket should contain Meguiar's D11101 Shampoo Plus + Water + a Grit Guard to trap dirt at the bottom. Use a clean microfiber towel instead of a wash mitt here to start washing your vehicle from the roof to the bottom panels. The reasoning behind using a microfiber towel is because it is not as heavy as a wash mitt when wet. Using a microfiber towel in this case will reduce the risk of wash induced scratches. • Bucket #2: Rinsing. This bucket should contain only Water + a Grit Guard at the bottom. It is important to rinse out your microfiber towel every other panel to reduce the risk of wash induced scratches during the rinse. • Bucket #3: Wheel & Tire Cleaning. This bucket should contain Meguiar’s Hyper Wash Soap + Water. Combine this with a Wheel Woolie Kit, some microfiber towels, and some elbow grease, and your wheels will start to really sparkle. Drying Methods The best drying method Andy recommends is no doubt using the MetroVac Master Blaster Revolution. This “blow dryer” allows for a touchless drying process where water is simply blown off the car. Of course the MetroVac does come at a cost of about $420. The alternative would be to use a set of high quality towels, such as the Microtex Platinum XL 2-in-1 Drying Towels. Spray Wax Applications Recommended after every wash, waxing creates a surface barrier that prevents not only dirt and grime from eating into the clear coat, but also reduces UV degradation. Andy recommends using Meguiar’s X-Press Spray Wax. And a lot of elbow grease. FYI, XPress Spray Wax comes ready to use, but can also be diluted 1:1 with water for use on interior trim, leather, windows, etc. Most simply put, feel free to use it on EVERY interior component of your vehicle. A
s I pushed my car out of the garage, so as not to wake my kids, I was happy to feel the cool temps greet me, and figured my car would be happier on the trip to Miami from Fort Lauderdale. Although I didn’t see a fellow Porschefile until I passed the Golden Glades interchange, I shared a bit of the time with a white GT3, and then when I arrived at the base of I-95, I followed a heavily modified SC for the remainder of the trip to the event. As I hadn’t been to DRT previously, I was pleased to trail an apparent guide into the event. I was fortunate to arrive early, as a lot of cars attended, and the wait became more requiring of patience as the 10 a.m. entry time approached. Waiting in line, and pushing the cars ahead inches at a time allowed the owners to talk about their drive, their car, and swap stories. It’s not often in South Florida that I can recall seeing everything Porsche from the 1960s to 2017 - all in the span of a few city blocks. Once the event got filled up, any Porsche enthusiast would be happy to find just about every imaginable variation of our marque of choice. Some common, some very rare. The pages that follow show a few examples of what makes the following so strong, and what will likely continue to be a very big event again next year. Scott D.

Turbos of every generation were on hand, including the granddaddy of them all - the 959. Rare iterations, such as the red flachbau on the opposite page impressed with its mirror-like finish.
Not to be overshadowed by its younger siblings, the 1973 RS on opposite page was given pride in placement in the middle of the road. The proud owner says it has only 1800 miles, and still has its original bill of sale. In addition to many pristine examples, anyone in search of patina was not disappointed, with several examples proudly displaying battle wounds brought on by decades of service.

Flash news report...Those wanting to move the April AutoX forward a week got their wish...The new date for event # 3 is officially April 22, rather than April 16.This event will be at BBT center and we expect a large turnout, so I encourage folks to register early or be prepared to pay more if you wait and try to register the last few days. Also, we finally got our 2016 series winner trophies delivered and will be presenting them at event #3. Event #2 was a blast and those attending were rewarded with 16 runs and an opportunity to tour the Sebring racetrack. As many of you know, 16 runs is unheard of ….However with a light turnout and a schedule that went flawlessly, we were able to put some gas tanks near empty. We are hoping to have a repeat of this event in September so plan ahead, prepare for a little longer drive, but be rewarded with lots of runs on grippy concrete and a less expensive entry fee than what we now must charge at BBT. Want to know how you did at the most recent autoX???In most cases results are published within a few days after each event on the GCR website....so check out the results of events 1 and 2, which are posted now. As indicated before,2017 will follow the same pattern of many prior years....7 events ….4 at BBT center and 3 at Sebring. In addition, we are planning 4 Zone challenge AX events with individual autoX trophies for class winners at each challenge event. The 4 challenge events are: The Sebring 48 hour Club Race, Zonefest, Oktoberfast and a multiregional AX at Buckingham airport, Florida’s premier AutoX site, located in Ft. Meyers

Here’s our tentative schedule for the balance of 2017, which is subject to change: #3 Saturday April 22 at BB&T Center in Sunrise. ...Increased registration rates at this and all BBT events, due to increase in site rental. Sunday May 28th in conjunction with Zonefest 2017 at a site in the Tallahassee area. Hopefully many of the regulars will mark this date on their calendars and participate not only in the AutoX, but also the whole Zonefest weekend. Not a series event, but there will be trophies for AX class winners #4 Saturday June 10th @ BBT center in Sunrise....last AutoX before the summer break. *************************************** *************************************** *************************************** ******* #5 Saturday Sept 9th or 16th… We’re back at Sebring for fall opener…Should be similar to the Feb. 25th event #6 Mid October @BBT ...historically one of our best attended events of the year #7 Mid November @BBT Our final event of the year and our typical PCA Ladies go free day Also plan on attending the Oktoberfast Zone challenge AutoX October 28-29 + 1 more Zone Challenge News, reminders and 2017 updates: • Everyone is now required to pre register for any AutoX on Clubregistration.net… Please consult the GCR or Zone 12 website and Kassette for all Autocross photos & results.

• Porsche classes are loosely based on the PCR’s for medium size regions, with minor regional adjustments. The major difference will be the addition of SN (stock car/novice driver) for men and ladies. These classes are strictly for newcomers only. Please see Steve for any car class questions or if you wish to run as a novice. We reserve the right to make additional class/rule changes as needed. • Our 2017 series are planned to be 7 events. To be eligible for an end of the year award, competitors must run in at least 4 events in the same class. Each competitor’s top 4 finishes will be calculated and an end of the year class champion and possibly runner-up (depending on class size) will be chosen. In case of a tie, additional events will be added until the tie is broken. Year-end class champion awards will be presented. • No passengers except for an approved AX instructor driving or in the car instructing. • Questions…..call Steve or Dottie Kidd 954-946-3196 • GCR members should try PCA AutoX events hosted by other regions. Last year Dottie and I attend AutoX events hosted by Suncoast, Everglades, Citrus, Sonnenschein and Peachstate regions. This year Florida Crown and Spacecoast regions both have new AX programs with events posted on the Zone 12 calandar. Join us for a “road trip” up the coast....meet new friends and course challenges.

Tech Corner : Tech Tactics ... Article by Pedro P. Bonilla, Tech Editor
What is it? Tech Tactics is a two-day gathering organized by PCA (Porsche Club of America) and PCNA (Porsche Cars North America) which offers technical information about our favorite subject: Porsches. It is held early in the year on the East side of the Country and therefore called Tech Tactics East and later in the year, the Tech Tactics West version is offered. Because they are hosted by PCNA, they are held at Porsche’s Training Facilities in Easton, PA and Ontario, CA respectively. These Training Facilities are state-ofthe-art venues which offer the perfect environment for teaching and learning all
PCA and PCNA are also working together to try and include the Porsche North American Headquarters in Atlanta, GA as another one of the Tech Tactics venues so that more Porsche enthusiasts can have access to the program. At each of these Training Centers there are several very well equipped classrooms with digital projectors and audio systems as well as car lifts, engine mounts, work tables and everything

These training Centers are where Porsche dealers throughout the US and Canada send their techs for continuing education and also serve as warehouse and distribution centers for Porsche parts. gram. It is done this way in order to limit attendance to a manageable number each day (125 people/day) allowing for Q&A time during or after each presentation. As the pre-registered attendees arrive they sign in, receive their badges and then are invited to enjoy pastries and coffee before the program starts.
At 8:45 AM Tech Tactics kicks off with the introduction, generally handled by PCA’s Technical Committee Chair: John Hoffman. John also coordinates all aspects of the event and schedules it down to the minute, books the speakers and makes sure that everything runs like clockwork. I just came back from the 2017 Tech Tactics East where I was invited to be one of the speakers in my new role of PCA Technical Committee Expert on Boxster/ Cayman.. It was an honor and a pleasure to make a presentation to such knowledgeable groups. My particular sessions were on “Braking Basics”. But, as I said, I was in great company. Well-known industry names such as Tony Callas, Jim Newton, Nathan Merz, Terry Anderson, David Becker, Dom Milano, John Paterek and Rolf Kittlitz also presented to the groups. Tony’s (PCA Tech Committee / Callas Rennsport) presentation was: “Inside Porsche”. He highlighted details of a re-
cent visit to the Porsche Factory, Museum and Porsche Classic venues. Great presentation especially because of his knowledge and the way he delivers that knowledge. Jim Newton’s (PCA Member) personality, whit and humor made for a superinteresting presentation on “barn-finds” and other incredible Porsche restoration projects. David Becker (PCNA) gave an in-depth presentation on the 718 Cayman’ technical stats, using as a prop a 2017 Cayman S on one of the lifts. Then he introduced David Becker who actually worked on the development of the 718’s chassis and explained how it all comes together as one great car. The Connected Car by Terry Anderson (PCNA) gave us a futuristic look at what’s possible in the automotive industry. Very interesting. Dom Milano (PCA Member) spoke about autosport photography and how to get your photos published and John Paterek (PCA Tech Committee) with “Made

in West Germany, remade in Chatham, NJ” gave an interesting look at Porsche restorations. Finally, Rolf Kittliz (PCNA) gave the attendees a full run-down on the beautiful, new 2017 Panamera Turbo. Just one tiny tidbit: The 2017 Panamera Turbo: 3 minutes 38 seconds around the Nürburgring’s Nordshleife! A new world record for a 4-door sedan. My recommendation is next time you get an e-mail from PCA announcing one of the Tech Tactics, register right then and there. You will be happy you did. The Adventures of Miss Madison Gold Coast Region’s Youngest Member by Mike Robin Hi again everyone, this month I’m back with lots more fun stuff that I’ve done and to look forward to in the upcoming months. Lets start with the Daytona 24 hour race. Daddy and I had a chance to spend some quality time out in the garage where we were able to watch the race on our new garage TV. It was mesmerizing watching all the different colored cars zoom by on the screen and a 911 even won in class which is awesome. I’m starting to think that I might be quite the good luck charm for these endurance races. And yes by the way, that is my awesome Ferrari F1 car walker you see me hanging out in as Daddy and I are looking forward to the upcoming F1 season too! (Porsche doesn’t race in that series unfortunately or else I’m sure we’d be cheering for them) I have also been keeping busy helping Daddy load his car on the trailer for the Driver’s Education events and will be looking forward to when I can drive in them myself one day (only a little over 17 years to go, I’m told). Daddy seems to really enjoy getting out on the track and helping out as an instructor at the DE events and he says that it is so much fun to drive the car the way it was meant to be driven, whatever that means. All I know is that he’s always got a huge smile on his face when he gets off the track. Speaking of big smiles, coming up soon is the PCA Picnic and I’m really looking forward to it as that means another fun ride in the back seat of the 911 and a fun day
at the park with our friends. I’ll definitely have a full report (and pictures!) on all the great food and people that we’ll meet at this event. Lastly, lets not forget the upcoming Concours at Plantation Heritage Park that I’m eagerly anticipating so that I can look at all the different colored pretty cars. My Mommy and Daddy are planning to bring me along (like they do for most of the club events) and maybe I can meet you and your family as well!
